Well, he DID say the Yanks were looking to dump Mondesi and that happened.

Williamson is a really good pick up for the Sox. He gives him a power arm to go at the back end of the bull pen that will allow them to get some good strikeouts. The bullpen is starting to fall together so nicely. Embree has been pitching really well lately. Jones has been a real good pick up. If the starters can go 6 solid innings and have the lead I think the bullpen is up to par to keep the lead. You have Embree/Jones/Fox/Sauerbeck/Timlin for the 7th and then Williamson for the 8th and Kim to close it out. Sounds like a good deal to me. I really think they have a shot at catching the Yanks this year.

Williamson is a better closer...Make him the Closer.

Great move by the Red Sox getting Scott Williamson and I was praying the A's would try to get him as they have zero depth in their middle relief right now and I think is an even bigger concern than their lack of offense. The only bad thing for the Red Sox in this is the Yankee will definently make a move to counter this. The Red Sox now suddenly have a great bullpen.

So what big move will the Yankees do to counter act the sox?

Yanks aquire Mondesi for David Delucci, Bret Prinz, and a minor league catcher. A bone-fide steal for the Yankees.

EDIT: They TRADED Mondesi. Sorry for the typo.

No, I think the Yanks shipped Mondesi and got the prospects back.

You heard wrong....Guillen has officially been traded to the Oakland A's.

Posted

Yup just heard it...WOO HOO! Well actually I don't know how much his numbers have been padded by playing in the Great American Homerun Park.

A's give up Aaron Harang (who's currently in the minors) and minor leaguer Joe Valentine.

The A's aquire Jose Guillen in exchange for Aaron Harang, Joe Valentine, and a minor leaguer.

Good trade IMO, for both teams. Guillen's a free agent after this year, and they have Kearns, Dunn and Griffey under contract anyway. Harang's in the minors since Oakland has five good starters already. Both teams deal from strength to shore up weaknesses.

Posted

Choken, both are pitchers...Harang has showed flashes of being a good pitcher but with the A's pitching he was really without a spot here. He could be a decent 3rd or 4th starter down the road. Valentine was actually being considered as a future closer of the A's but maybe they cooled on him.

Definitely a good deal for Oakland NOW, and Cincy later.

In other news, I heard on WEEI(Boston) that the Mariners Rejected a trade offer from Boston that would have swapped Trot Nixon and Freddy Garcia. Then Boston rejected a counter proposal which was Garcia for Freddy Sanchez and Bill Mueller.

I can't see that as being true at all. Why would Boston trade Nixon unless they had another RF coming in via trade also...hmmm....

I would've gotten rid of Sanchez and Mueller for Garcia.

Thank god your not the GM here...

Geez!

No team in contention will or should take Garcia as he will be reclamation project. He is simply not the same pitcher he was two or three years ago.

anyone getting this Florida Marlins feel to the Angels?

Haven't they already killed off three members of the Championship team?

Bet by 2006...Salmon will be the last remanent of the Championsip team

Uhhh not really...Schoweneis (sp?) was expendable and Appier was a huge contract that couldn't stay healthy. Angels will be fine next year if they actually stay healthy but this year is pretty much over for them. Its not like Anderson or Glaus is on the market.

I dont think last night's performance for appier helped much. He was yankeed after giving up 4 runs in 2/3 of an inning. Nice to see how both appier and vaughn sucked for their teams after they were traded for eachother.

Is the deadline tomorrow afternoon or tomorrow night? I was expecting more activity to be going on. Maybe something is happening as we speak.
