Guest Insane Bump Machine Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 Thanks to Evan M for this recap: Here's a rundown of what took place outside the Staples Center parking lot three in front of around 250 people this morning: Johnathan Coachman introduced the press conference and said they would be announcing the main event for SummerSlam, which will take place August 24 in Phoenix, Arizona. Coachman introduced the Co-GM of Raw: Eric Bischoff, who said it great to be back in L.A. Bischoff said Raw has emerged as the dominant brand in sports entertainment, thanks to the guidance, vision, and leadership of himself. He said Austin was not in attendance because he was at home contemplating his future. Bischoff went over the restrictions set against Austin that were announced on Raw (he can't lay a hand on anybody). Bischoff pointed out that Raw has emerged as the number one show in the WWE brand and the number one show on cable TV, thanks to all the fans out there. They exceeded all industry expectations with their brand-only PPV, Bad Blood. Bischoff said SummerSlam will be a joint PPV with the superstars of Raw and Smackdown. The fans booed Smackdown, and Bischoff agreed with them. Raw contributions will dominate the show and make it one of the most anticipated PPVs in history. Bischoff said he was there to announce the Raw main event: Triple H will defend his World Hvt. Title against Goldberg. Bischoff introduced Triple H. Hunter's song played and walked out of a tour bus and onto a stage and posed (without water). Triple H said: "Bill Goldberg, the fastest rising superstar in the history of our business, a household name, he made it to the top of our business, faster than anyone, 176-0 winning streak, the greatest of all time, the man who says I'm next. Bill Goldberg, damn right I'm next! Be careful what you wish for Goldberg because now you get it." Triple H also said that WWE is not some small pond where he is a big fish, it is the real deal, the big dance, and he's in the top of the food chain. Hunter said WWE will not set up 176 guys for him to mow down, because it is not a manufacturing plant produced to make Goldberg the man. Hunter said he busted his ass to get to the top of WWE and if Goldberg thinks he can take that he's mistaken. Sure he beat The Rock, but Rock is in la la land getting stuntmen to do his job, he's (Triple H) beaten Rock at his best. Goldberg cannot touch The Rock at his best. "August 24th, SummerSlam, you're (Goldberg) going to the top of the food chain, you're going up against the top dog, king of kings, the man, The Game!," Hunter said. "And I will show you and the world that this simply is a matter of Evolution, simply about being the top of the food chain, survival of the fittest. And when it's said and done there's only one diamond in this business and baby, you're looking at him!" Bischoff and Triple H shook hands. Triple H shakes Coach's hand and they sat to the right of the podium. Bischoff introduced the challenger to Triple H's dominance, Goldberg. His music hit and he walked out of the same tour bus Hunter did and entered the stage wearing a black suit. "As I stand here before you today, I can tell you that I have waited for this moment for a hell of a long time," Goldberg said. "When I first came to the WWE, I had a couple goals. The Rock was one, to get that title and to get my hands around Triple H's neck!" Goldberg said he was not there to tell us he's the best to ever step in the squared circle, but said he would say that he's the baddest to step in there. "So, Summerslam, you talk about being careful what you wish for, one of my goals is to give the fans what they want to see," Goldberg said. "And in doing so, I'm also satisfying myself and my dream come true will be nothing but a damn nightmare for you. So when you talk about an Evolution and the top of the food chain, you're looking at the top of the food chain, now WCW, big fish in little pond, the past is the past, I'm here for the future and I am the future, so you better get used to it and like I said on Raw, your ass is next!" Triple H stood up and Bischoff stepped in between him and Goldberg. "Unlike the circus like atmosphere that you may find in a Don King boxing promotion, these athletes are civilized and I would like you both to pose for pictures," Bischoff said. They stood face to face and shook hands, but Goldberg pulled Triple H in and they talked trash. Bischoff stepped in between them again and raised the arms of both mens. Triple H and Goldberg continued to mouth off at each other. Coachman thanks thanked us for coming out and hyped, "SummerSlam, August 24th, only on PPV, the Raw Main Event, Triple H vs. Goldberg for the World Hvt. Title!" The song "Fight" from last year's SummerSlam plays on the speakers! Triple H and Goldberg spent the next 10-15 minutes signing autographs and doing interviews, while continuing to show each other up. Goldberg showed Triple H a WWE Magazine with himself on the cover. Triple H came back with one of his own. In return, Goldberg showed the WWE Magazine and a Raw Magazine. Pretty funny for the live audience! At one point a fan gave Goldberg a replica World Hvt. Title belt, which Goldberg put over his shoulder. Triple H got on the mic and said, "This is the real deal!" Finally, they stared each other down one last time and talked more trash until Triple H backed down. Goldberg grabbed the mic and said, "Watch the champ walk away with that belt, because he ain't gonna have the damn thing much longer!" Triple H heads back to the tour bus, Goldberg followed, but stopped to sign more autographs for another five-ten minutes, before finally boarding the bus. The whole thing lasted around 35 minutes. credit: 41832mania.com Does that whole thing at the end remind anyone else of Kurt and Brock on Smackdown?
Guest Insane Bump Machine Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 forgot something: They'll have to hold a Smackdown! Summerslam press conference now, right?
Lil' Bitch Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 and posed (without water). Shocking Hunter said WWE will not set up 176 guys for him to mow down, because it is not a manufacturing plant produced to make Goldberg the man. LOL They stood face to face and shook hands More shocking The song "Fight" from last year's SummerSlam plays on the speakers! How nice of them. I like that song a lot. EDIT: I'm guessing we'll able to see this on the WWE website sometime soon and also on the DVD release in October.
Guest jester Posted July 22, 2003 Report Posted July 22, 2003 You know, this press conference sounds like it would have been a better thing to show on Raw than the staredown HHH and GB ended up doing.
Guest MarvinisaLunatic Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Well..compared to Lesnar vs Vince as Smackdowns SS main event, Goldberg/HHH looks pretty good.
Guest TheArchiteck Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 I'm looking forward to it. This will be the 2nd ppv i'll order this year.
Guest Aero Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 I think that the match could be entertaining as maybe a No Holds Barred match. I would actually rather see HHH win than Goldberg, although HHH losing the title is tempting.
Guest Adrian 3:16 Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Hunter said WWE will not set up 176 guys for him to mow down, because it is not a manufacturing plant produced to make Goldberg the man. Hmmm.... Well it wasn't quite 176, but give him time. Sure he beat The Rock, but Rock is in la la land getting stuntmen to do his job, he's (Triple H) beaten Rock at his best. Goldberg cannot touch The Rock at his best. This was actually funny. Now how come HHH can't be this witty on air anymore?
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Did they explain why Goldie is the #1 contender only having fought less than 10 matches? I didn't even know Goldberg WANTED the belt... they never made his intentions known before. There are so many better ways they could have set this match up... instead the stole from Rock vs. Goldberg... which was only 4 fucking months ago!
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 btw, I love the idea of the press conference.
Guest Downhome Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 I am almost totally convinced that HHH will defeat Bill Goldberg.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Goldberg HAS TO win. He has to. HAS TO. RRR: Remember when he said Booker T 'had to' win.
Guest Kahran Ramsus Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Goldberg shouldn't win. Like it or not, Kane should be the guy that dethrones HHH.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Nah, I say Goldberg beats HHH and Kane is the big monster who challenges him. Of course, that leaves HHH completely out in the dark on Raw... which is why he goes to Smackdown to marry Steph
Guest Downhome Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 I know that Goldberg *has* to win, but I just don't see it happening. As of right now, I'll be going into the show fully expecting HHH to toss yet another to the side, this time, being Goldberg. RRR, what you said in the post above this one makes perfect sense.
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 No, Goldberg *has to* win. There is _no one else_ on Raw who can realistically take the belt from HHH. Hell, there are only two guys on Smackdown who could and they're tied up in a feud already. If HHH beats Goldberg it's OVER. Raw is dead.
Guest Choken One Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Exactly...Bring Shane in for Over the Top Babyface Newly Named CEO(or whatever position Linda Kayfabe held) and Have Kane MURDER Shane... Goldberg/HHH have a No Holds Barred Match with 13 minutes...Goldberg wins... As Goldberg Celebrates...BOOM! RED HELL! Kane stands on the stage and points straight at Goldberg and throat Slashes Him... Next Night...Goldberg refuses to step down from Kane...Kane says he'll stop the madness once he wins the title.. This creates a Dillema for Austin/Bisch...If Kane wins...No more Chaos...But Goldberg is the *money* man so they don't know who to support... Goldberg dominates Kane but Kane No-sells everything and Finshes him off with a Tombstone and wins the title...Where his former Buddy RVD walks back into the picture...RVD wins it back on a MAJOR RAW in a Cage Match... Kane is finally locked away for Psychiratic Care. HHH meanwhile had decided to do a tag team set up with Orton with the Dudleys...They win the titles. Orton won the I.C Title at Slam... So that sets up a HUGE RAW Match with World Champion RVD and Former I.C champion Booker Vs Tag Team Champs HHH and IC Champ Orton. Booker and RVD win the titles but two weeks later they start getting the HBK/Austin vibe and start a little bickering...They lose the tag Titles to the New Seven/Bane team and Booker turns heel...tired of Doing Spinaroonies for the fans... RVD/Booker at Series...HHH goes over to Smackdown leaving Orton on Raw to TAKE over for good. Booker goes over at Series...Jericho turns face at Series or around then...And they build for a Rumble showdown with Booker/Jericho... Jericho wins...but guess who returns at the Rumble to create mass Hysteria? KANE. Kane is in this Waylon Mercy design and is nice and calm backstage but is still the same vicious killer in the ring... Jericho over comes the odds and wins at Mania... Meanwhile...Hell remains freezing as this will never happen
Guest RavishingRickRudo Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Totally disagree with that. Kane has not made any indication that he wants the title. His destruction has been completely random and without prejudice or premeditation. In this regard, Goldberg is the guy who is looked at to be the one to stop him. Goldberg should be the only one who doesn't fear Kane and that drives Kane CRAZIER than before. Goldberg should win the first match, which makes Kane suicidal. Total Cactus Jack/Sabu thing here where Kane says if he can't beat Goldberg he will make sure that Goldberg can never wrestle again and in their next match he won't look for the win, but the kill.
Guest Choken One Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 WHO CARES!?! Just get the belt off HHH... Hell I don't care if you have Spike Dudley parading around with it...
Guest wwF1587 Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 i will never show any interest in the world title until its off HHH, i practically forgot he had it at one time... its worthless right now.. i rather see what kane is going to do next week then HHH/Goldy have some gay confrontation.... HHH-Goldberg doesnt make me want to bother with SummerSlam.. Brock/Vince makes me want to kill myself
Lil' Bitch Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Kane has not made any indication that he wants the title. His destruction has been completely random and without prejudice or premeditation. That's a good point, but like I was trying to say earlier. Kane gets all this attention focused on him. He's SUPER pissed now that he is maskless. His path of destruction automatically makes him a threat to HHH's world title. I know heel vs. heel doesn't really work out and its rare to see, BUT regardless, Kane's potrayal right now has been made for him to look strong again so that you'd think another world title shot is inevitable for him with the way it is going. To me, Kane gets all the TV time now and we get to see Goldberg / HHH now that's it officially booked, so the Big Red Machine is stuck in limbo from how I'm looking at the situation.
Guest GameCop Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 I love your ideas, Choken One. They make a lot of sense and it would make WWE entertaining again.
Guest Choken One Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Not that idea...I hate that Idea looking back at it...Figures you liked it. That was like my WORST F.B ever.
JN News Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Nah, I say Goldberg beats HHH and Kane is the big monster who challenges him. Of course, that leaves HHH completely out in the dark on Raw... which is why he goes to Smackdown to marry Steph If he does that, then Brock will be unjusitiably fucked for rest of his career, and Vince & his WWE will have severely fucked over their one last hope for the future. HHH, Steph, & Vince!
Guest Boo_Bradley Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 I didn't even know Goldberg WANTED the belt... they never made his intentions known before. "EVERY wrestler wants to be No.1, every one wants to be the champ. No one enters this profession without striving to be the best." - Quote Ernie Ladd 1986
boobshaw Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Bischoff introduced Triple H. And when it's said and done there's only one diamond in this business and baby, you're looking at him!" Bischoff and Triple H shook hands. I'm surprised (as I;m sure Dan is), only 3 documented occurances where he said something about this "business". That's his favorite phrase.
Guest GameCop Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 It may have been your WORST idea, but it would still be light years better than anything WWE has devised lately.
Guest The Decadent Slacker Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 I'm sure Kane/Goldie is in the works sometime anyway. Insane Vs Undefeated or something. Anyway, I for the first time in a long time don't give a goddamn who wins the fake title. I hate both guys for different reasons, & i hate the fact this is the money match on RAW. My secret hope: Vince & Goldberg get into a financial disagreement, leading to Goldie shooting the everloving shit out of HHH. Everybody wins then. If they had half a brain they'd have Angle beat Brock for the title at SS, have Goldie go over HHH, then trade Brock to RAW & build Lesnar/Goldberg.
Guest Choken One Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 Actually...Send Goldberg so you can edit the reactions...Give him more people to plow down...
Guest Deviant Posted July 23, 2003 Report Posted July 23, 2003 I'll say it, I would rather HHH win about 100x over. Goldberg has no business with that damn title, even if it isn't worth anything. Goldberg will win, and that is a bad thing. Goldberg destined to be World Champion makes me thank god that I'll have SD by then.
