Guest Lord of The Curry Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 So life is sucking right now and I've never been one to fight my feelings. My two best friends have quit the job where we worked, thus giving me no reason to go back to work and I'm in a rut w/ the ladies. Here's what's currently in heavy rotation...... "Katy's Song" - Red House Painters "When it's cold I'd like to die"- Moby "A season in hell"- Moby "Cemetary gates"- The Smiths "Mad World"- Gary Jules No metal or heavy stuff, please.
Guest Dmann2000 Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 "People Are Strange" is very meloncholy.
Guest JAxlMorrison Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 Hmmm, no metal or heavy stuff? The Doors "The Soft Parade" Guns N Roses "Estranged" and "Coma" Jimi Hendrix "Burning Of The Midnight Lamp"
Guest IDrinkRatsMilk Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 Nick Cave's cover of "What a Wonderful World". Yeah, not a very depressing song on it's own, but the way he sings it is so... ironic. It's a downer for sure.
Guest La Parka Es Mi Papa Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 Elvis Costello - Lipstick Vogue Elvis Costello - I Want You Bright Eyes - A Perfect Sonnet Bright Eyes - It's Cool, We Can Still Be Friends Pearl Jam - Black The Mr. T Experience - Even Hitler Had A Girlfriend

Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 King Crimson-"Trio" It's a neat little progressive instrumental that just strikes me as sad for some reason.
Guest nl5xsk1 Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 A lot of the Syd Barrett stuf is pretty depressing, especially knowing how bad he fell apart mentally. - Opel - She Took a Long Cold Look at Me - Wouldn't You Miss Me
Guest Choken One Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 look on the 3rd page or something as there is a 5 page thread for this topic "Heroin Dreams" LOA
rising up out of the back seat-nuh Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 Sigur Ros: Agaetis Bryjun (the song) Craig Armstrong + Evan Dando: Wake Up In New York Bruce Springsteen: Streets Of Philadelphia Ooberman: Roll Me In Cotton + Open The Hatch + Flashing Light At Sunset Martina Topley-Bird: Anything The Smiths: There Is A Light That Never Goes Out and I Know It's Over Aphex Twin: Avril 14th Jeff Buckley: Morning Theft Aimee Mann: Wise Up and Save Me. Especially once you've seen Magnolia R.E.M: Nightswimming and Sweetness Follows Any of those are stunning songs, perfect for being depressed to. Especially the Ooberman stuff...
Guest Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 I've said it 10 thousand times before, and I'll probably say it 10 thousand more times. Anathema - One Last Goodbye.
Guest Incandenza Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 The Delgados' "No Danger." There's a piano break at about the three-and-a-half minute mark that chokes me up every time. I nearly lost it when I saw them live a few months back and they performed this song.
Guest JangoFett4Hire Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 Saddest song I've ever heard: Whiskeytown - Sit and Listen to the Rain. Also REM'S Automatic for the People and Husker Du's Candy Apple Grey are downers...
Guest La Parka Es Mi Papa Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 The Cowboy Junkies cover of I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry. You can't go wrong with Hank's original, either. Also get Exit Music by Radiohead, and Straight To Hell by The Clash.
Guest La Parka Es Mi Papa Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 Oh, and one more: Tom Waits - Town With No Cheer
Guest Steve J. Rogers Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 A pickup truck load of classic country tunes Hank Williams: I'm So Lonsome I Could Cry, You're Cheatin' Heart, Cold Cold Heart, ect Patsy Cline Crazy, I Fall To Pieces George Jones He Stopped Loving Her Today, She Still Thinks I Care, Golden Rings, ect Merle Haggard Sing Me Back Home, Fugetive, Branded Man, If We Make It THrough December, The Bottle Let Me Down, Footlights, ect Conway Twitty Goodbye Time, Hello Darlin', After The Fire Is Gone, The Letter, The Telephone Song, Thats My Job Slew of others I can't think of right now but there are plenty from "Am I Losing You" "Hello Walls" and more from the 50's till right around the late 80's. Country has gotten way too positive over the last 15 or so years Steve
Guest La Parka Es Mi Papa Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 George Jones He Stopped Loving Her Today Oh yes, get that one. Great song.
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 So I just bought Nick Cave's Murder Ballads, and it's just about the most morbid non-metal thing I've ever heard. "O'Malley's Bar" is fantastic.
Guest Edwin MacPhisto Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 So I just bought Nick Cave's Murder Ballads, and it's just about the most morbid non-metal thing I've ever heard. "O'Malley's Bar" is fantastic. Ain't it grand? 14 beautiful minutes of murder. I can't wait to see your take on the Kylie Minogue duet, though. I'm definitely seconding chave's "Wake Up In New York" vote. That whole Armstrong album is just okay, but that's a great song. Another Tom Waits kill-yourself winner is "Time," and Jeff Buckley's even more depressing on "Last Goodbye," which is a real kicker after the bridge especially.

I though it was "14 murder ballads" As for Buckley, the whole of Grace is stunning, particularly Lilac Wine, but "Morning Theft" just strikes a chord with me like no other song...
Guest godthedog Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 "satisfied mind" was the song played at jeff buckley's funeral. listening to it with that in mind is quite depressing.

The album is all songs about murder and death, but "O'Malley's Bar" is 14 minutes long. So we're both right. But I'm righter, because... ::runs away::
Guest godthedog Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 you're righter because "morning theft" isn't on 'grace'.
rising up out of the back seat-nuh Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 One song I forgot: Zero 7: Distractions

rising up out of the back seat-nuh Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 Yeah, listening to Coldplay and Evanescence makes me depressed as well...
Guest justsoyouknow Posted July 29, 2003 Report Posted July 29, 2003 Notice that there's only ONE song on there for both of them? There's a reason for that. Those would be the only good songs by either band. Unwarranted criticism not appreciated.

Anyone who can dig Johnny Cash and Ryan Adams gets the chave thumbs up.
