Apparently Cartoon Networks' Adult Swim has been whipping the networks in key demographics, and occasionally overall ratings, which is amazing since it's most popular program (the fucking hilarious show Family Guy) is A. Cancelled, B. on Cartoon Network (cable). Just as remarkable is that the late night anime shows (I don't know what they fucking are now, Big O Trigun Lupin and ???) Are beating out late late shows. how long can this go on, and is this an anomaly or an encouraging sign, (since AS's show are usually of high quality.

Yeah, but how are the original Adult Swim cartoons doing? Space Ghost was a huge hit when it debuted too, but the buzz has died down a good bit now. I say strike while the iron is hot and produce a Family Guy movie or more original episodes. They could do the same for Futurama too.

I don't know if there would be enough interest or material to support an Adult Swim channel, considering that Cartoon Network already has a second channel with Boomerang.

Adult Swim is the block of cartoons on Cartoon Network from 11p.m. to 2a.m. most nights. It includes Futurama, Family Guy and several anime imports. There are also original series that air predominately on the weekends which include Space Ghost Coast to Coast, Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law, Aqua Teen Hunger Force, Sealab 2021, Home Movies, the Oblongs, Mission Hill, The Brak Show and maybe a couple I'm forgetting.

Of those, I would suggest downloading Space Ghost, Sealab and Aqua Teen Hunger Force.

Weekday Adult Swim

Home Movies

Futurerama

Big O

Kikiader

Trigun

Lupin the III

I rarely watch the 10 hour, so Futurerama might not be there anymore. But I always watch the rest of the Anime Block of Big O - Lupin III. The black screen random message commercial breaks rule and the news update with Brak is funny as hell. COMIC COM

If you can get past the unique retro style of Kikiader and pay attention to the story of the robot who wants to be human, you will love it. Big O looks like Batman TAS but with mecha. Trigun is the Goku-like outlaw in the wild west on the run helping out people along the way. Lupin III is the greatest show ever! Its from the 70s and still holds up today, if you liked Cowboy Bebop you will like this show. Lupin is the greatest theif in the world and must outsmart the interpol innspector Zunigata in every episode.

Indeed, I do believe they have moved all of Futurama's episodes over to TBS..

I've been watching AS since it premiered. For exposing new fans to Trigun, I love it, even if Yu Yu Hakusho was moved to Toonami for some stupid reason.

Futurama's Adult Swim spot now belongs to Family Guy.

Am I crazy or is the voice of Cowboy Bebop's Spike both in Big O as Roger Smith and Kikaider as Saburo?

Yesterday I marked when I saw that they're going to be showing FLCL next week. Hooray for 6 episode insanity!

The 10 hour features the excellent "Samurai Jack" followed by "X-Men: Evolution".

And I'm sorry, but I can't get into Lupin. Replace it with Inuyasha, STAT.

Inuyasha never grabbed my attention, Trigun is tolerable, Lupin is damn funny at times, but what the hell happened to their greatest show ever, Cowboy Bebop? I haven't seen that one on the air in forever.

Bebop has 26 episodes and it aired twice already, I think.

But even Adult Swim butchers shows like Bebop or Kenshin in almost every episode. The only way to get true anime is DVD or the internet.

Hell, what could they have edited out of Bebop that they didn't leave in? The ridiculous amounts of ultraviolence are still present, I don't think the show had much if any nudity, and hey, it is still Cartoon Network, so you gotta keep the cussing down to a minimum (although I still think even CN's version of Bebop has one of the best dub jobs I've ever heard). What's so different about it on DVD?

Cartoon Network can only repeat the series so many times before it reaches DBZ over exposure and kill interest in the anime block. Do you really need to watch the same 10 episodes more than 4 times during the summer?

I can only watch so many fighting anime and I have seen enough of Inuyasha repeats, so maybe if they show another season of new episodes then it can replace Lupin in a month or so.

Im not a fan of anime either. I cant get into something where people jump 500 feet when it just looks like their in the same spot and turns 50 diferent colors and flies by.

Yeah, but how are the original Adult Swim cartoons doing?

Are they even making new episodes of the Adult Swim originals anymore? I remember not seeing a new "Space Ghost: Coast to Coast" in ages...2 years ago, so I stopped watching that (as much as I love the show, seeing "Boo Boo Kitty" repeated 5 times is more than enough), know they haven't made any new "Harvey Birdman: Attorney at Law"'s since the original bunch of episodes (:(), could care less about "The Brak Show" (for the same reason I don't really like Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back...the "supporting character" can't carry a whole show and be consistently funny by himself), don't think they've made any new "Aqua Teen Hunger Force", "Baby Blues", "Sealab 2021", or "Home Movies" (although I don't watch any of these, so I wouldn't know for sure). And...I think that's it for the AS originals.

But a lot of the originals are coming to DVD, right? I never got around to looking at that other thread.

Yeah, CED, that's David Lucas. He's also Tom, that robot host guy on Toonami.

Wrong. David Lucas is the VA of Spike and Roger Smith, but NOT Tom and Saburo. Tom and Saburo are voiced by Steven Jay Blum. Blum and Lucas's voices sound almost exactly alike. Many fans have confused the two (myself included).

That's a stereotype. "Anime" is simply Japanese for "animation." It would be impossible to hate an entire country's animation.

Indeed. There are many different styles of anime. Not just the cookie cutter stuff you're describing, HBK.

Hmm. Im not really into Anime that much either, but I couldn't pass up a Widescreen VHS of Akira for $1 at some store I was in the other day (I can't remember where). I had seen it a ton of times before, edited down and all, but even on VHS it was awesome.

I don't think they made any new SG's, but there were definitely new episodes of Harvey Birdman, Aqua Teen, and SeaLab.

Yes, about the only thing they haven't made new episodes of in awhile is Space Ghost, but there have been new episodes in the past year. The last new one I remember seeing is Bjork as Space Ghost's wife.

My main questions there was, how are the ratings of the original shows as compared to established programs like Futurama and Family Guy and the cult following that the anime series' have.
