Guest William E Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 which do you think is the best worker on the mic? Hogan Foley Rock Austin Shawn Micheal Bret Hart Angle
Guest The Czech Republic Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 "Thank GOD Donald Trump's a Hulkamaniac!" Truer words hath never been spoken.
Guest Slapnuts00 Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 I'd say Foley too. He can be funny and goofy if he wants, and he can cut some scary serious promos too.
Lil' Bitch Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 which do you think is the best worker on the mic? He's not on the list. My answer = Chris Jericho.
Guest Choken One Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 Bret Hart should NEVER be on this list. In terms of telling a story or entertaining the fans...Rock is the Man. In selling the angle or storyline...WHOO! The Man....whom isn't on the list which is CRIMINAL!
Guest AndrewTS Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 (edited) I think to be considered the best, you have to be able to be well-rounded on the mic and portray a great deal of emotions. Hogan -- is only capable of goofy cartoon character promos and the egomaniac Hollywood Hogan promos. The latter may have been just him being himself. Foley -- mostly known for comedy, but also can show fear, insanity, and drama. Tries to put over his opponent even this way. Rock -- Vastly overrated comedy mic worker. Can do intense promos but those don't come very often. His charisma is undeniable, but his actual promos aren't THAT good. Austin -- Used to talk really fast, but has slowed down and become more natural. He can do comedy, and whip fans into a frenzy with his promos, but is too reliant on swearing and isn't as creative as he was back when he tried to invent many new catchphrases. And "that's all I got to say about that" and "What?" are very, very annoying and overused. Shawn Micheals -- Somewhat underrated as a mic worker, but nowadays he sucks. He could cut great heel promos but as a face he was very annoying. Good but not great. Bret Hart -- Good, but not great. Bret was always intense and serious. He really seemed to believe everything he said or at least make you believe it. Not as well as Foley could when Foley's on, though. Plus Bret was never that versitile with his promos. Hearing a joke out of Bret always seemed odd. Angle -- Good promos, but always sounds like a dork. His promo work is strictly midcard material. He is able to sound intense and serious in video package but never was able to put that across well in front of a crowd, except for repeating how he won his medals with a broken neck. In conclusion--Foley. Edited July 31, 2003 by AndrewTS
Guest AndrewTS Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 Flair is a great promo guy, but when you think of top WWF/E guys, he doesn't come to mind since he wasn't even in WWF a year--that's why he probably wasn't listed here. Jericho?! He's okay, but better than everyone on that list? No. His face promo work is atrocious, although he's great as a heel.
Mecha Mummy Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 Foley. I like The Rock, but I'm a total mark for the Cactus Jack anti-hardcore promos.
Lil' Bitch Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 Jericho?! He's okay, but better than everyone on that list? No. His face promo work is atrocious, although he's great as a heel. I was refering to his heel work although I do miss the times with all the Steph jokes.
Guest Askewniverse Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 Out of those seven, I'd say Rocky. Plus Bret was never that versitile with his promos. Hearing a joke out of Bret always seemed odd. Bret's one of my favorite wrestlers of all-time, but I have to agree. Bret seemed uncomfortable when he was insulting his opponents. For example, I remember a promo where Bret insulted Sid by calling him a "big stupid dummy."
Guest AndrewTS Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 Rico: The repetitiveness and stupidity of his face promos, especially the Planet of the Apes tie in, ruins any vote I'd have for him--plus this list seems to be made up of WWE Hall of Fame candidates. Jericho just is too much of a suck up as a face. Askew: I agree. I loved Bret's promo work growing up because he managed to try to play off the WWF as a serious sport no matter how silly it got. I was able to get into his matches and feuds because of it. I think it was that he wasn't really playing a character but being himself--we know now that Bret took the business extremely seriously, and loved to be the virtuous hero all the time. He looked kinda distraught any time he was playing a heel, even during the US vs. Canada feud where he was a face everywhere but the US.
Guest Choken One Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 Bret never was comfortable with the Interview... However...Owen Was.
Guest Trivia247 Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 Rock is the best out of that particular Seven because he seems more impromptu
Guest razazteca Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 Hogan is good if you need a voice actor for a cartoon. The Rock is nothing but a poor man's Nick Cage pretending to be Elvis + pie sex jokes. Austin is a walking alcoholic and bad singer but is still better than most of the list. Austin works well as both face or heel. Foley is the best of the list, his ECW & Mankind stuff is legendary. Shawn Michaels is average and has the ability to do a good promo without sex or tasteless jokes. Angle well no comment because I have not seen his recent stuff. Worked good in the past as a goofy character. Foley is god
Guest NoCalMike Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 Foley is the best all around, since he is great with or WITHOUT a script for him.
J. Hungerford Smith Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 Bret never was comfortable with the Interview... However...Owen Was. You know...I just joined this board the other day so I wouldn't know if this is some kind of inside joke here, but I REALLY hope you're not serious
Guest Choken One Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 Yes...It was a joke...But he seemed more at ease anyways... He just always flubbed something or had something out of his control happen.
J. Hungerford Smith Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 Good. If you were serious, I may have had to kick the leg out of your leg.
Guest Choken One Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 Good. If you were serious, I may have had to kick the leg out of your leg. Thing about it was... Owen seemed like he was having a Blast... Bret always came across stern and serious...which made him wooden at times...so when he actually became Animated...it just didn't feel right.
J. Hungerford Smith Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 I totally agree about Bret. But luckily he made a name for himself before cutting a great promo was all that important.
Guest Choken One Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 Is it just those seven or were the questioner asking for GREATEST promoer? Because the fact... Flair Roberts Savage Dibiase Piper are off that list is JUST WRONG.
Guest The Amazing Rando Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 Foley is THE MAN on that list. Anti-Hardcore his crazy promo in ECW where he talked about sailing a bike or something(lost that quote) After the dumpster match. His crazy Mankind promos "Foley Foley Foley" He could make anything seem dead serious or just insane...in either a hardcore or funny way... he will be remember always as a hardcore legend and a legend on the stick.
Guest AndrewTS Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 Foley almost made the "Lost in Cleveland" segments watchable. For that alone he deserves the nod. Raza basically summed up a lot of what I thought, and I basically agree with most of what he said. Although Shawn only really did the sex jokes in DX, and Rock mainly used them as a face. Rock's heel promos usually are great stuff.
Guest Steviekick Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 Foley....because of the range of stuff he can do.
Guest Youth N Asia Posted July 31, 2003 Report Posted July 31, 2003 Is it just those seven or were the questioner asking for GREATEST promoer? Because the fact... Flair Roberts Savage Dibiase Piper are off that list is JUST WRONG. It's just asking out of those 7. It's not to determine the best ever. I'll give the nod to Mick
