Well hatred from overexposure is bound to happen.

My point is that I never liked her to begin with, but I'm now accused of jumping on the "Hate Lopez" bandwagon, even though I've hated her since I first saw her.

IMO, J-Lo is very hit-or-miss when it comes to movies. She was good in Money Train, and U-Turn, and I have never seen Selena, but from what I have heard, she was good, even though an aspiring singer, playing an aspiring singer, should not be that difficult of a task.

As far as her looks and music go. Her singing talent is horrid, her music is crap. If she could for once compose her own music it would be nice, or if her and Mariah Carrey could get together and decide to at least rip off DIFFERENT music, then possibly it would be acceptable.

As far as her looks go. Yes she is hot, extremely hot, but face it, she is dolled up, EXTREMELY DOLLED UP. I would never ever say she has ever been ugly at ANY stage of her life, but look at her as a fly girl on In Living Color and tell me you are looking at the same fucking woman....couldn't now, could ya?

J-Lo did a collab with Ja Rule.

That automatically makes me question her sense of musical taste.

Is there a J-Lo lesbian kiss in there? if so that might be worth downloading a clip on KaZaA in the future.

It sounds as if they've got 2 really good movies. A Romantic Comedy with J Lo and a Mob movie with Ben Affleck.

Good idea: Release the two movies seperately

Bad idea: Mush a romantic comedy with a mob movie and make one crappy movie out of 2 possibly good movies.

I know how Gigli could have been a better movie: instead of Gigli being a hit-man, make him... I dunno, a comic book writer. That would have been cool. And original. Everyone knows comic book writers are more apt to lure lezbians than hitmen.

Three words- Out of Sight.

And amazingly, Ebert gave "Gigli" **1/2, not a glowing review but still the best I've read yet. Although he's always had a thing for Lopez.

Ebert is the horniest critic out there. Put a hot chick on film for him and he'll give a semi-positive review no matter how bad it is. But hey I hope it bombs too and her career bombs so bad from now on she'll need to revive it by posing in Playboy.

A movie bombing won't kill her career...

Look at britney...or Madonna

jennifer lopez was in some decent roles before she became a leading actress(like my family), but as a leading actress in movie, she isn't good enough to pull it off. j-lo and ben affleck aren't ever going to be good leads in movies.

Well, it is a box office bomb according to day 1 estimates..

For Friday:

2,215 screens - $1,470,000 - $664 per screen

That puts it in 7th place. Compare it to American Wedding (#1 movie last night) :

3,172 screens - $12,300,000 - $3,878 per screen

after 'selena', i don't think it can be fairly said that jennifer lopez "acted," because aside from her gregory nava movies, i've never seen her display anything resembling "range." she's a movie star who's got one stock persona whose particular style looks reasonably good on screen. 'out of sight' was a GREAT role that, in the hands of a good actress, would've made that character one of the most memorable of the late 90s. but she didn't do anything interesting with it; i watch it, and i can't see any choices she made as an actress. like i said, she does reasonably well, but she didn't make it breathe. it's almost impossible for me to distinguish between the way she acts in any of her later movies. she plays cute. that's about it.

I hate J-lo too am I officially cool? Do I need to make a semi-witty joke about how bad of a singer or actor she is? I must be missing something....

how come no one has recalled Anaconda yet, that was much worse than Angel Eyes IMO

Anaconda was cool, it at least had Jon Voight's hilarious overacting in it to make it worth seeing. Also some of the worst effects in recent memory. I think that movie was meant to be campy and cheesy.

Okay, I actually got up the nerve to go see Gigli today. I honestly don't know what to make of it. You might think a movie about mafia thugs kidnapping an important kid would contain some action scenes, suspense, etc. This movie has NONE of that! Instead, Affleck and J. Lo just talk ad nauseum about each other's sex organs. There are several really dumb things here:

1. Lopez goes around the whole movie talking shit about how she could kill someone or poke their eyes out, yet we never see her DO any of this to prove that she is capable of it!

2. There is literally nothing that happens for entire reels. The whole movie is just Ben and Jen and the retard kid in his apt. or maybe cruising somewhere. Occasionally Walken or Lainie Kazan or someone will show up to break the monotony, but frankly even Walken was cashing the ol paycheck here.

That all said, the one reviewer was right about the Pacino cameo. It was really great and by far the best thing in the movie. The hilarious aspect of it is that Pacino goes through all of the plot decisions (kidnapping the kid, cutting someone else's thumb off) and soundly ridicules ALL of it as being dumb as shit!

Even the Pacino scene illustrates a problem the movie has: the well known character actors don't seem like characters in the film, just someone doing a cameo. Walken's character is a cop, but he doesn't do anything in the movie (i.e. solve the case). Kazan does nothing in the film for the one scene she's in. Pacino does stuff, but again just for one scene. Having characters show up in one scene and then never again is very distracting.

3. There is no dramatic tension in the film in any way. We never see the fed prosecutor who is after Pacino. We never see him mobilizing the FBI to search for his brother. We never get the feeling that Affleck and Lopez are in any danger of being caught. It's like some bizarre Waiting For Godot type shit, except here Godot finally shows up in the form of Pacino and blows someone's brains out to get us out of our slumber.

The film felt like something involving minor characters in another work (sorta like Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead). As in Ben and Jen are two minor level thug characters in a major mafia picture about a prosecutor going after a mob boss, which is an idea that would actually be interesting.

Do I think this is the worst movie ever made? No. Probably not the worst movie this year, since there is some amusement to be had amidst the dreck. I would most likely give it *1/2, for Pacino's cameo and the surreal scene of the retard kid singing Baby Got Back while Affleck cuts the thumb off the corpse.

No, my point is that the hatred comes from over exposure more than her lack of talent. I really could give 2 shits about the girl besides her being in the next Kevin Smith film...which will surely bomb now. But she did wonderful jobs in most of her films (Oh when she phoning one in she is REALLY phoning one in) conveying the emotion of whatever character it was.

Her acting talents are average. Certainly nowhere near a woman like Salma Heyek.

She's not a good actress. She's just where she is cause of the way she looks.

I will stand by my comments that Lopez showed a great amount of range in Angel Eyes. It just happened to be the most pointless movie in the history of cinema...right next to Summer of Sam. You just sat there and waited for SOMETHING to have a point in the end and it never did.

But her I'm a tough hard ass blanketing the vunerable little girl thing...the character had layers and she conveyed them well. But dammit that movie sucked.

selma can't act her way out of a paper bag. when i watched 'time code', i basically saw her get lost, wither and die right before my eyes. it was horrid.

Oh, come on... did they even have a real script for that movie. Wasn't most of that improv. You can't blame her for that.

She did very good jobs in 54, that movie where she was dating the bi-sexual guy that was dying, and I haven't seen Frida but from what I heard, she did a fantastic job.
