Rogers Report post Posted August 2, 2003 Not nesseccarilly one hit wonders or aging stars fading from the spotlight but artists and groups who had many moments in the sun only to just go to either "Who?" or "What the hell happened to them?" Couple off the top of my head: REM and Pearl Jam No offense to fans of the groups but they were red hot during the early 90's and now the only time you hear about Pearl Jam is when Eddie Veddor is on some tirade about an issue And probably the flame out that I am the happiest about is: Oasis Bono once went up to Noel Gallagher and said that he felt Oasis would one day be bigger than the Beatles, to which Gallagher said, "We are bigger right now!" Pearl Jam is just doing their own thing and making every track sound like there is no effort behind it at this point. I got one word for my answer: Hootie. Pearl Jam wasn't a flame out as far as I am concerned because they are STILL a huge ticket draw. Thank GOD that Oasis went down the toilet where they RIGHTFULLY belonged. Guns N Roses is by far the biggest flameout I have ever seen in music. They could have RULED the rock genre to this day if Axl hadn;t self-destructed and become a victim of his own ego, to the point the band that backed him up is now recording an album with Scott Weiland as their frontman. I'll withhold judgement about Velvet Revolver until I hear the album... I wasn't very impressed with "Set Me Free" from the Hulk soundtrack, but we shall see... I read some things in the latest Guitar World about it, so... speaking of that, Zakk Wylde was inches away from joining GnR, but it was pulled because some demands that Zakk allegedly made, but he disavowed them. Guest Youth N Asia Report post Posted August 2, 2003 REM's kinda funny...after Monster sold great numbers they signed a huge money deal with WB for 10 years or so. Or 10 albums, or whatever. But since then they've put out 3 more albums and none of them have sold well. Green, Out of Time, Automatic, and Monster all sold large, that's 4 in a row since going to WB...so I guess they thought they would keep stringing out the hits. Plus the fact alot of people call them "one of" the greatest hard rock bands ever speaks volumes. Oh, and they put out, IMO, 4 really great albums in that time. I wouldn't say that Jane's flamed out, but they definitely leave that impression. They broke up after the Lollapalooza festivals started. They reformed around 96 and released the Kettlewhistle b-sides compilation. I think after that theywound up going on hiatus, and during that time they all went clean. Dave Navarro had a really bad drug problem. After that both Navarro and Perry Farrell released solo albums that didn't necessarily light the world on fire, and went back together, recorded a new album, and revamped Lollapalooza and went back on the road. It refers to two friends of the band at their college, South Carolina. One guy they called Hootie, the other was the Blowfish, and that's where they got their name. You're welcome.
