Swift Terror Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 (edited) This movie is already at #2 in IMDB's Bottom 100 movies of all-time and has the lowest rating ever at Rotten Tomatoes review site. It is as big a disaster as 'Battlefield Earth', 'Swept Away', and for you old schoolers, 'Ishtar.' Yet our friend Ebert gives it 2 1/2 stars and praises some its great scenes. The last 12 movies he has reviewed, he has given a grand total of 2 movies 2 stars or worse. This guy has become nothing but a senile shill for hollywood. Matt Stone and Trey Parker recently said Ebert is insane, hehe. They are right on. Have any of you heard snippets of dialouge from this mess? Have any of you poor bastards seen it? J-Lo on bed with legs spread: "Come on, it's turkey time, gobble, gobble" J-Lo on bed: "Give me some of that hetero-lingus" Oh my. Edited August 4, 2003 by Swift Terror
Guest Ripper Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 I don't see how him having a different opinion about a movie makes him a senile old twit.

Guest WrestlingDeacon Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 I recommend picking up Ebert's "I Hated, Hated, Hated, Hated this Movie," for a sampling of some of his worst reviews. Although, I have notice since Siskel passed that he just doesn't have the fire that he used to. I also think that Ebert is a guy more willing to view the movie for what it is then let other reviews and media backlash palgue on him.
Guest WrestlingDeacon Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 About the only thing I question there is Tomb Raider getting ***.
Guest redbaron51 Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 and Pirates of the Carribean rating as well. as I went out last night with a few buddies at the Iron Maiden concert last night, my gf saw Gigli...she left after the opening credits.
Guest Ripper Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 I think the silver scuba suit blinded most reviewers.
Bored Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 About the only thing I question there is Tomb Raider getting ***. Like I said in another thread Ebert is the horniest critic in Hollywood and will give any move with a incredibly hot leading lady a positive review. This especially true of all Angelia Jolie movies. Hell I saw the Ebert & Roeper when they reviewed Tomb Raider 2 and Roeper called him out on it about he was just smitten with Angelia Jolie and Ebert said "what's so wrong with that?" I'm sure Gia is his favorite whack off material.
Guest Ripper Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 and Pirates of the Carribean rating as well. as I went out last night with a few buddies at the Iron Maiden concert last night, my gf saw Gigli...she left after the opening credits. So...she DIDN'T see Gigli then. I'm sorry, and not saying that the movie isn't crap, but anyone that didn't watch the whole movie shouldn't really have anything to say about it. I mean, if I had left early during FIght Club I would have thought it was alright movie. Not saying that Gigli has some earth shattering revelation in which the rest of the movie can now be seen in a whole new light. But you can't read a chapter of a book and say the whole thing sucks.
Guest bob_barron Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 More proof: Ebert gave Original Sin, a movie in which Angelina Jolie shows her boobs- *** He did hate Life or Something Like It though
Guest starvenger Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 "Come on, it's turkey time, gobble, gobble" I love shoot comments that aren't meant to be shoot comments...
Bored Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 More proof: Ebert gave Original Sin, a movie in which Angelina Jolie shows her boobs- *** I wonder what he gave Gia...although that was an HBO movie so might not have reviewed but she was naked half the time and did a couple of lesbian scenes to boot. Well okay I'd give that a positive review too.
Guest bob_barron Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 He didn't review Gia cause it was never released in theatres.

Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 About the only thing I question there is Tomb Raider getting ***. What about Bad Boys II getting a worse score then Gigli?
Guest WrestlingDeacon Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 I don't know, most reviewers haven't like Bad Boys II, despite the money it's made. I think that's more legitimate as Smith and Lawerence have very likable screen presences. While Gigli might suck, a lot of the negativity stems from outside the film and the media backlash against Affleck and Lopez.
Guest bob_barron Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 Bad Boys II got a 26% rating at rottentomatoes.

MOST OF THOSE "VOTERS" ON IMBD AND ROTTEN TOMATOES ARE JUST JUMPING ON THE WAGON, HALF OF THOSE FUCKERS PROBABLY HAVEN'T SEEN IT YET. NOTE: I'm not saying this because I am a fan of both Affleck and J.Lo, but be for real...
LaParkaYourCar Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 If something is bad enough about a movie that you walk out of it then you probably aren't going to like the rest of the movie. How would you ever watch it again? Everytime you did you'd still have to watch the part you hated. It's hard to like something when there is something you hate in it. Out of curiosity Ripper have you seen Gigli?
Guest Shaved Bear Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 gigli only pulled in about 3 million, which is about 2% of the cost to make the movie
SpikeFayeJettEdBebop Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 I havnt seen it and im not planning on seeing it. Reviews are horrible(which doesn't usually affect me) but I just have no desire to see it at all. "How would you ever watch it again? Everytime you did you'd still have to watch the part you hated. It's hard to like something when there is something you hate in it." Well first of all, if you walked out on it, you probably wont watch it again. Plus, if you watch the entire film you would only be seeing PART of it again. And, this has nothing to do with Gigli but, I own a lot of movies that I don't like certain parts in, who gives a fuck, if you dont lke a certain part you could, and can still like the entire film itself.
Guest Prototype450 Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 SCREAM 3-** When was she in that?
Guest Mattdotcom Posted August 4, 2003 Report Posted August 4, 2003 ...Angelina Jolie isn't in Scream 3...

Guest evenflowDDT Posted August 5, 2003 Report Posted August 5, 2003 Ebert gave Original Sin, a movie in which Angelina Jolie shows her boobs- *** Angelina Jolie shows her boobs in Original Sin? I must have slept through that part. I really want to see Gigli, just to beat the hype. My credibility as "that guy who reviews all the bad movies" is at stake! Somehow I don't think Dr. Tom is rushing out to review this one... I think what we have with Gigli is a bonafide phenomenon - the first film with such negative pre-release hype that it's actually been sunk. I don't want to say score one for the internet geeks, because I seriously doubt anyone of their ilk would see it anyway, but...where did it all come from? There's a lesson in this, and a lot of over-analysis on where perceptions of films come from, and how the media and eventually potential viewing audience interpret these perceptions. Because I guarantee you, as bad as Gigli and From Justin to Kelly may be...they don't belong at the head of any worst films list (unless it's worst films of this year). And how can anyone walk out after the opening credits? Unless there's the graphic rape and murder of a 3-year old girl shown several hundred times, with multiple camera angles showing her bodyjerking as she's shredded with a heavy hosing of lead, spraying the lens with gobbets of meat and bone and blood, that smells of doing something just to do it. Seriously, if you let yourself get fucked in the ass by the high ticket prices, might as well stay there to make sure all that money goes back to cleaning the bloodstains off your seat.
