Trivia Weekend Update!

Recommended Posts

Guest Trivia247

this is basically a recap of newnotes of the weekend if you seen these before my apologies.... aw well here we go.

# it was originally scheduled to be Chris Benoit vs. Matt Hardy in the final of the U.S. Title Tournament, but the change was made to Eddie Guerrero when his character took off strong.

# Speaking of Eddie Guerrero, if a poll was taken backstage right now, Guerrero would probably be considered the hottest act in WWE right now. Nobody begrudges his success, since the general consensus is that he's a good guy that has more than paid his dues and is very well rounded in that he can cut great promos and deliver in the ring. However, some fear that Vince McMahon will ignore Guerrero's popularity because he isn't the type of wrestler that McMahon sees money in.

# On a rather humorous note, Goldberg actually walked out of a storage closet for his match against Ric Flair on RAW.

(Thanks to The Pro Wrestling Torch Newsletter)

On that last note I mentioned that During the Raw that he did LOL Guess the Torch Confirmed me!

# Nick Dinsmore, who played the role of Doink The Clown at Vengeance, also used the gimmick a few weeks ago on Smackdown in a match against Chris Benoit.

# NWA-TNA regular Alexis Laree's name has come up during several meetings about bringing in new talent. At one point, there were even discussions about how to debut her on television.

# Vince McMahon was heard telling a group of wrestlers during a RAW house show this past Sunday that they should pay close attention to what he does to draw heel heat because mostly everyone else doesn't.

# It was originally thought that Rey Mysterio vs. Billy Kidman would take place at Summer Slam, but it appears at this point that the match has been scrapped.

(Thanks to The Pro Wrestling Torch Newsletter)

Guess they didn't like Dinsmore as himself... Personally Borne's Doink could have kicked the asses of all the other doink's. Nick's Doink was a Wuss!

# Despite what I reported a few weeks ago about WWE not bringing anyone else up from OVW for a while, it appears that decision has been changed. Those who've been mentioned as being brought up are Rob Conway and Johnny Jeter.

# Mark Henry will be working the RAW brand house show on 8/17. He will be competing in an eight-man tag team match, pitting The Hurricane, Rosie, Garrison Cade & Mark Jindrak versus Rico, Steven Richards, Rodney Mack & Mark Henry. It looks as though Henry will be returning as a heel on the RAW brand.

# Batista anxious to make WWE return

After three surgeries on his right triceps over the last five months, Batista hopes and believes that he’s on the cusp of a full recovery. “I think (it’ll take) another month at the very most, just for safety,” Batista told WWE.com in a telephone interview. “I honestly feel like I can come back at any time now.”

Continue...

# Stephanie McMahon continues to tell writers that it's not their job to argue with Vince McMahon over the creative direction of the company. She has even mentioned Paul Heyman's demotion on several occasions as an example of what happens when you push Vince too far.

# Bobby Heenan is telling friends that the results of a recent MRI have shown no signs of cancer and his dictor has proclaimed him "cancer free".

# It's almost a given that Triple H will be dropping the World Heavyweight Championship at Summer Slam, although the company is still unsure who should walk away with the strap. Many expect that if HHH does indeed lose the belt, he will most likely win it back at WrestleMania XX as a babyface. Sources believe that Goldberg will not be the one to take the championship, but if he does for some odd reason, expect his reign to only last a few weeks. The reason being that Goldberg's contract is structured to minimize the amount of road dates, so if he was given the strap, the RAW house shows would not feature a World Championship match.

Thanks to Robbie Everton for the following report:

I went to the RAW brand house show in Evansville, IN last night so I thought I would send in a quick recap of what happened.

The arena looked probably a little over half full (around 5,000 at a guess) and the crowd was noisy for most things, I guess that's because we only get one house show per year. The house show audio was (as usual for these things) terrible. It was hard to hear what most people said when they had the mic. We (my wife and I) had nice seats, right on the entrance way just above the audio guy, which was interesting to say the least. Fit Finlay also came out a few times through the night and sat next to him to check on proceedings.

Christian beat Val Venis to retain the Intercontinental Title. Christian had a TON of heat, playing to the crowd at every opportunity (quite a few "peeps" signs in the crowd). The end came when Christian got his knees up during "The Money Shot" and quickly hit "The Unprettier" on Val for the pin. Unfortunately during the match I looked down at the tech table and saw that Christian's music was cued up to play, so that kind of gave away the ending. From then on it was a battle to try and not look down at the sound box to see who was going to win the matches, not that it mattered in the end as some guys behind me kept calling out who's music was cued up next to play. Oh well...

Scotty 2 Hotty beat Nick Dinsmore with the Worm. The Fink announced Scotty as making his return to a WWE ring tonight. The match was short (probably around 3 minutes) and Scotty looked pretty good considering his long layoff. Dinsmore despite being announced from nearby Kentucky got zero reaction (and came out to music entitled "generic 10")

Mark Jindrak & Garrison Cade beat Stevie Richards (w/Victoria) and Rico (w/Miss Jackie) this was a good fun comedy match. I know a lot of people hate Rico's new outrageously gay gimmick, but it kept the crowd entertained. A couple of comedy spots with Rico were when Stevie had beat beaten by the faces, so he crawled on his knees over to Rico to make the tag and hugged him for consolation, which Rico did by rubbing his crotch in Stevie's face. They also did a new variation of the "69" spot. Rico was whipped to the corner or the ring by the faces, then Stevie, who fell out of the corner on all fours, Rico followed dropping to his knees behind Stevie, which looked... well, I'm sure you can guess how it looked. In the end, Miss Jackie and Victoria got into a catfight outside the ring, while Stevie went to break it up, Rico was caught in the double dropkick finisher of Jindrak and Cade. It's probably as well that they are teaming up Cade and Jindrak, they are bland by themselves and still get little crowd reaction as a tag team, but given time they could be good.

Randy Orton (w/Ric Flair) beat Scott Steiner (w/Stacy) Orton got a BIG reaction when he came out (probably because the first few chords of the Evolution music sounds VERY similar to HHH's music) The crowd reacted like he was a star, which has got to please the WWE. Flair took the mic and ragged on The Fink for not wearing a tuxedo getting him a big face pop. Stacy of course got the most crowd reaction with constant "Stacy" chants during the match. Orton controlled most of the match thanks to Flair running interference, but when Steiner made his comeback, Test (who never appeared for the rest of the night) ran down to the ring and nailed him with the big boot behind the refs back, Orton finished it seconds later with the "RKO" . After the match Steiner and Stacy posed on all four side of the ring to a good reaction.

Next up was the Highlight Reel - Jericho came out and ran down Evansville, commenting on some signs in the crowd until he introduced his "good personal friend" Eric Bischoff, who came out to the ring and got into an argument with a kid at ringside, Eric threatened the kid (who was about 12) while standing behind a security officer, it's little things like that, that make a house show fun. Once in the ring Eric told everyone that he had given Kevin Nash the night off (which was strange since the sound guy had his music cued up to play) after a couple of minutes of Eric and Jericho telling each other how great they were, Nash came out with VERY blonde hair and grabbed the mic informing the crowd that Eric had told Nash to stay at home because Evansville did not deserve to have main eventers, but he thought they did. The scary thing is, Nash probably was the biggest name at the house show.

Anyway, Nash wanted to cut some hair TONIGHT in Evansville. Jericho pulled his shirt over his head to protect his hair, so Nash went after Eric, Jericho attacked from behind but ended up taking the powerbomb for his troubles, Allowing Eric to escape with Nash's scissors, so no haircutting tonight (I know, I was shocked too)

The final match before Intermission was a 3 team elimination match for the WWE tag team titles between Goldust and Lance Storm, The Dudleys and La Resistance. The idea behind the teaming of Storm and Goldust is that Goldie is trying to make Lance less boring and "bond" with the fans. Goldust slapped hands with some fans on the way to the ring and told Lance to do the same, which he did (half heartedly) The Dudleys came out to (as usual at house shows) a HUGE reaction, La Resistance got the usual "USA" going against them.

Storm and Dupree started the match and within seconds, Lance slapped an armbar on his opponent for a minute, which the crowd finally caught on to and started a "Boring" chant. Later in the match Goldust and Bubba did a double flip, flop and fly on the Frenchie's while Lance took mental notes at ringside (you could see him move his hands trying to emulate what he was watching)

After a 6 man brawl, Dupree ended up ready to receive the "shattered dreams" but the referee broke it up, so Lance walked over did the deep for Goldust getting a great reaction from the crowd. I guess Lance was feeling pumped from that, so he tried to a Flip, Flop and Fly on D-Von, but couldn't remember what do to after the punches, he looked like he was badly disco dancing (which looked hilarious) While Lance was in mid crotch grab, he was 3D'ed and eliminated. After that The Dudleys and La Resistance had a good (and pretty long) match which ended up with D-Von getting pinned after a flag shot.

Post match saw the usual French guy getting put through a table while somebody in the crowd was given a chunk of broken table (but no Spike - so no photo for the lucky kid this time)

Intermission - otherwise known as smoke break.

When I came back from a smoke, some teenagers had commandeered our seats so they could look through the backstage curtain, one girl looked like she was about to faint because Randy Orton waved at her.

After much shoving, we managed to get out seats again for the second half, but the teenagers decided to stand next to us so they could look over at the entranceway.

Molly Holly beat Jackie, Ivory and Gail Kim to retain the Women's Title. My recap will get short here because I could barely see the ring with people pushing past me to see what was going on. Jackie was pinned around 30 seconds into the match by Molly after a powerbomb out of the corner with her feet on the ropes, Ivory pinned Gail Kim around a minute later with the "Poison Ivory" facebuster and finally Molly pinned Ivory (not sure how - my view was blocked) Miss Jackie and Victoria ran to the ring to triple team Ivory as Gail Kim walked to the back, Jackie ran down for the save.

The Hurricane and Rosey beat Rodney Mack and Mark Henry. Again, I'm not sure how as my view was blocked (and I was at the front of my row!) Good reaction for The heroes, but not so much for Mack/Henry. One guy behind me asked who was the guy with Mark Henry... poor Rodney Mack. Rosey was over with the crowd with his new gimmick.

The Fink announced a short break while they set up the cage for the main event, but by this time my feet had been stood on around 5 times by people pushing past me, somebody kneed me in the back and one person STOOD ON MY HEAD to look over the side barricade. When a guy in front of me asked if his kid could stand in front of me so he could see Hurricane leave the ring and I said no, because I paid for my seats to actually WATCH what what going on, and the guy put his kid in front of me anyway, I had enough and left before the main event, but I heard that Kane beat RVD with a top rope chokeslam.

It was a good show (the first half at least) but the inconsiderate people around me pretty much ruined the experience for me and my wife. Not only getting kicked and stood on, but some kids swearing and shouting very improper things to the female wrestlers (which I won't repeat) soured what should have been a fun night.

On the subject of OVW people in old gimmicks, it's not that they want them to get a push in those gimmicks. They've finally realized that it's easier to job out a Nick Dinsmore or Rob Conway under a mask or facepaint and a wig then push them as themselves LATER and have them taken seriously. That beats the hell out of the USUAL WWE debut of someone, which is one win, a shitload of jobbing, and maybe a push six months or a year later.

:shakes head::

Now, I don't really keep track of all the house show results, but I don't recall seeing HHH defending the belt in the ones I did read.

"Now, I don't really keep track of all the house show results, but I don't recall seeing HHH defending the belt in the ones I did read. "

When HHH is reasonably healthy, he usually has a house show match, usually defending the title. Although he often works injured if he's able. That's one of the reasons that Vince likes him so much.

Fair enough. I just didn't remember seeing his name much in the house show reports.

The ones i do remember him being on, were usually as part of tag matches with flair against michaels and flavour of the month, he didnt defend regularly iirc.

Why do they even bother having writers, Vince might aswell fire all of them seeing as their opinion is of no importance to him.

Let him and Steph just book the shows... oh wait, that's already happening.

Don't get me wrong, I'm all for a Mattitude push and I really enjoyed the Benoit / Hardy match on SD, but I can easily say that Benoit / Hardy wouldn't have been as good as the Benoit / Guerrero match we got at Vengeance. I'm just thankful we didn't get Billy Gunn U.S. Champ that night...

# On a rather humorous note, Goldberg actually walked out of a storage closet for his match against Ric Flair on RAW.

Um...because they're not an asshole boss?

# It was originally thought that Rey Mysterio vs. Billy Kidman would take place at Summer Slam, but it appears at this point that the match has been scrapped.

I hope they reconsider. I would rather watch Kidman / Mysterio than Gowen / Hardy. I'm an MFer, but I can't stand Zack.

What a bitch.

YES! The Streak will end!

Orton got a BIG reaction when he came out

Oh no...Wait til AS read this...

Eric Bischoff, who came out to the ring and got into an argument with a kid at ringside

You mean it wasn't Goldberg?!!

I guess when he's feeling healthy, he's usually in the main event for obvious reasons. Back in June, he defended the WHT against Nash in the RAW house show main event I attended. They teased a Nash title win, but thankfully, it turned out to be a no contest courtesy of Earl Hebner.

when Push comes to shove, they could rehire Hector to run around in the gooker gimmick or Lazertron.......

so pitiful

Eddy Guerrero is in Heavyweight form and is over, even as a heel, plus he has a world class moveset...Like Benoit...Fuck The Us title, give him a World title shot.

Well, Guerrero did get two world title shots last year as much as I can remember. Once against the Rock on RAW and on the November 7th edition of SD against Brock Lesnar. :P

I remembering reading a rumor on prowrestling.com last months that there were plans to have Eddie get a WWE Championship title shot at Survivor Series which is going to be held in Dallas, TX.
