Sunday night baseball is the Phillies/Cardinals. Whenever Scott Rolen comes up to bat the fans boo. Every single time this happens the announcers get an air of disdain in their comments about Philly fans.

Fuck You.

Scott Rolen didn't want to be in Philadelphia, so to hell with you if you think the Philly fans booing him is absurd. I am tired of this anti-Philly bullshit. Since the J.D. Drew incident fans have been running on the field and attacking people, fans have thrown cell phones at players, but of course Philly is still the bad guys.

He didn't want to be in Philly. I don't hate him as much as some fans, but I can't argue their hating him. I am of the opinion if you don't want to play then I don't want you on the team and that's it, but some fans hold a bigger grudge.

And once you get a few people booing him everyone will join in.

This is like how Indians fans still boo Manny Ramirez whenever the Red Sox play at the Jake. That extra half a million dollars looks real good when the Boston fans aren't as forgiving, doesn't it Manny?

At least Rolen admitted he didn't want to play in Philly, unlike other players who say they're with their team for life and leave for the money.

Didn't Philly boo Santa Claus?

Why anyone finds it absurd anymore I'll never know.

Posted

"They once booed Santa Claus in this city, but fans claim he deserved it because he appeared to be drunk."

From a CNNSI.com article

A better example to use against Philly would be to bring up how they cheered Michael Irvin being paralyzed. Granted that wasn't the fans finest hour.

It should be pointed out that it was John Miller not Gary Thorne.

At any rate I agree with pinjocky when it comes to booing players. Us A's fans have every right to boo Jason Giambi for going to the A's #1 competition at the time and bad mouthing Oakland after he left.

Jason Giambi is the biggest sell-out I can ever remember. I don't mind taking the money and going to a perennial winner, but he completely changed himself to do it. Gone is the hair, gone is any sembelence of having fun.

Long hair=Fun. Or something. I think he looks classier.

Anyway, in his mind, he was going to the team that had the better chance of winning. And nothing is more fun than winning.

Giambi is the spokesman for selling out. I never begrudge a player for taking a good contract, but he SHAVED. Its like watching Dude Love in the WWF. He turned from an A's slugging bad-ass to a Yankee's corporate whore, shilling deoderant on tv.

DAMN HIM! DAMN HIM!

Again, I'd say going from the"Grizzly" look to his present look is a step up.

Aren't you the same guy who complains when WWE makes somebody cut their hair?

"Oh my God, they might get confused with Triple H despite being better and looking nothing like him!"

In this case, it's worse, because everybody on that team has to have the short hair with no facial hair thing. It's worse than the Army.

Haven't you seen him on the pre-games? He talking up a storm on the field...

Just because he shaved and Cut his hair doesn't make him a sell out...

I am?

And everyone looks like they could be respectable businessmen. I see no one that looks like the bag guy on the corner.

Maybe I'm confusing you with everybody else in the WWE folder.

But nobody on the Yankees is allowed to look like the bag guy on the corner. It's baseball, not an audition for an Army training video.

Big Deal.

If I'm paying you that much money...You damn well better look professional.

If that is the case then I will change my view of him, but I am going on what I have seen and I just don't see the same attitude about him.

As for the business man look and approach I think it robs the team and fans of the special feeling about a team. Take the 1993 Phillies for example. They weren't a good team talent wise, but they all clicked and they were all average joe type of guys and it made people love them when they did succeed.

So no one is allowed to look like a bum. Cry me a river.

The way I see it, if you are going to add yourself to one of the most(If not top) prestigious teams in all of sports with an amazing history and sense of tradition, look the part.

I don't see them complaining...

Cleaning up their look gives them more $$$ and that is that matters isn't it?

How many endorsments did Giambi have before? Beside Local stuff in Oakland...he cleans himself up and he looks better anyways...he has become a pitchman for Right Guard, Pepsi and Arm and Hammer...

How does having Facial Hair and Stringly long hair any different from being clean shaved and professional looking in terms of having fun...

He's the same guy...

Think back to Don Mattingly, who had a mustache for years and Steinbrenner still made him shave it off.

You mean to tell me you can't still look professional with a mustache?

WHO CARES! It's fucking Facial Hair!

it didn't effect him!

Look at this way...

Look at when Junior came to Cincy...Larkin then was allowed to have a Goatee (Scott also banned facial hair)...what happened to him? He got injured left and right.

My point

Facial Hair=Injuries.

I'm saying he looks better without it.

And since he looks better without it, there's no reason to keep it.

Holy crap alkeiper and I agree on something!

Anyways no A's fan would ever had had a problem with Giambi leaving and we were resigned to the fact because of our cheap ownership that it would probably happen. But then he went to their main competition, a complete slap in the face to his former teammates with just oozed of the ultra weak "if you can't beat em', join em'" philosophy. Then he bad mouthed the city of Oakland and us the A's fans. Then he went from "party like rock stars, bang like porn stars" look to a Gordon Gecko look.

Greed is good...fuck em'.

Actually...Isn't SEATTLE Oakland's main competition?

'72 - '74...the Oakland A's Mustache Gang win three straight World Series...facial hair equals championships!
