Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted August 20, 2003 Yes its KOTR in Philly...and who do I see in the front row..... the ECW number one first row fan...the HAT GUY!!! Who the hell is this guy??? 1995 was one of the low points of the WWF in the 90's Diesel was the champ..and no one really cared. We had Smokey mountain wrestlers in the WWF which made people like me think... the SMW was just a farm fed for the WWF like OVW is now.......then again SMW also supplied most of the wrestlers for ECW too during 95-96 as did WCW and other feds. kinda sad watching Midnight express's Stan Lane on the Coliuseum video desk for the WWF Hocking Nintendo game cheats on tv. Gee not exactly memories that rivial going after the Fantastics and Rock n Roll Express hmm... Btw the WWF had a Blimp back then..... Gee what happen ? did it crash and burn?? DId Lex use it for the Lex Express Oh look Dok Hendrix AKA Michael Hayes! Trivia for you all....What Free bird has NEVER gone to the WWF?
Guest Dmann2000 Report post Posted August 20, 2003 Jimmy Garvin The original Freebirds (Hayes, Gordy and Roberts) had a brief stint in the WWF in 85, and then Gordy came back as Executioner and Hayes came back as Dok.

cawthon777 0 Report post Posted August 20, 2003 I don't believe the SMW guys like Tracey Smothers, Tony Anthony, etc showed up until the following year ... but 1995 did indeed blow like no other.

cawthon777 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2003 Tracey Smothers came in the spring or summer of 1996. I can't remember Tony Anthony for some reason... Anthony was TL Hopper, who spent his time outside of the ring working as a plumber.
Guest The Old Me Report post Posted August 21, 2003 KOTR 95 was very scary. It's one of the few SK rants I enjoy.
Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2003 Ah, memories. I got to see this PPV for free. The only thing about KOTR I liked really was Hart / Lawler. Nothing at that event tops Bret sticking his sweaty foot into Lawler's mouth who then stuck Lawler's horse shit covered foot into his Lawler's OWN mouth. Props to Savio Vega who wrestled FOUR matches that night and had a good match with the Roadie though. Main event was a snore as Diesel and Bam Bam (who I am a big fan of) defeated Psycho Sid and " turncoat ' Tatanka to which the Native was the one who took the job to no one's surprise. I was shocked at the time when the Undertaker lost and I wanted Shawn to win since he returned not too long ago and I wanted to see the HBK / Diesel rematch. Believe me, I was pissed when fucking MABEL of all people in the damn tournament won...

Guest The Old Me Report post Posted August 21, 2003 Why did Mabel get pushed again? Because he was BIG, uh, and BIG!
ChrisMWaters 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2003 I think that the reason that Mabel was pushed because they hoped for the next Earthquake or Yokozuna out of him. Insted...we got the next Tugboat.
Papacita 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2003 Btw the WWF had a Blimp back then..... Gee what happen ? did it crash and burn?? DId Lex use it for the Lex Express HEY! Don't dis the blimp! I marked for the damn blimp! Anyway, I went to that KOTR...it was my first WWF PPV and I actually enjoyed the show live. I was a little disappointed that Taker and HBK lost, but besides that, I liked the show. I was a mark for Savio Vega and at the time I bought Mabel as a top heel and legit threat the World Belt, so it was all good. Damn...I miss being a mark. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2003 Why did Mabel get pushed again? Because he was BIG, uh, and BIG! Ever notice that Vince usually doesn't push black guys unless they're hosses? He was going to push Henry huge, hence the 10-year or so contract.

Lil' Bitch 0 Report post Posted August 21, 2003 (edited) 1995 KOTR Qualifying Matches: Mabel def. Adam Bomb Undertaker def. Jeff Jarrett Kama def. Duke Droese Shawn Michaels def. King Kong Bundy Bob Holly def. Mantaur Roadie def. Doink Yokozuna def. Lex Luger Razor Ramon def. Jacob Blue Note: Razor Ramon was injured after winning his first round match. Savio Vega beat IRS to make the PPV portion of the tournament. Owen Hart and Davey Smith battled to a draw in a match for a spot on the PPV. Both were therefore eliminated. King of the Ring '95 - Philadelphia, PA - CoreStates Spectrum - June 25, 1995 Sunday Night Slam: KOTR Qualifying Match: Savio Vega (w/ Razor Ramon) pinned IRS (w/ Ted Dibiase) at 4:01 with a spin wheel kick; this bout was made at the last minute to fill the vacancy left due to Razor Ramon's rib injury from a ladder match he had with WWF IC Champion Jeff Jarrett 14 days ago. Pay-per-view bouts: KOTR Quarter Finals: Savio Vega (w/ Razor Ramon) defeated WWF Tag Team Champion Yokozuna (w/ Jim Cornette & Mr. Fuji) via count-out at 8:24 after Yoko ran into the ring post as Razor Ramon held off Owen Hart from ringside. The Roadie (w/ Jeff Jarrett) pinned Bob Holly at 7:30 after lifting a boot into Holly's face as he came off the top. Shawn Michaels fought Kama (w/ Ted Dibiase) to a 15-minute time-limit draw; Michaels hit the superkick after the match/ Mabel (w/ Moe) pinned the Undertaker (w/ Paul Bearer) at 10:44 with a leg drop after Kama interfered and kicked the Undertaker in the back after he hit the chokeslam on Mabel. KOTR Semi Finals: Savio Vega (w/ Razor Ramon) pinned the Roadie (w/ Jeff Jarrett) at 6:36 with a roll up after sending him into Jarrett on the ring apron. Non-tournament match: Bret Hart defeated Jerry Lawler with the Sharpshooter at 9:20 in a Kiss My Foot match after outside interference from Hakushi backfired. KOTR Finals: Mabel (w/ Moe) pinned Savio Vega (w/ Razor Ramon) with a powerslam and splash at 8:32; after the match, Men on a Mission beat up both Razor Ramon and the returning 1-2-3 Kid; Razor, Savio, & the Kid were held back by officials during the coronation. Main Event: WWF World Champion Diesel & Bam Bam Bigelow defeated Psycho Sid & Tatanka (w/ Ted Dibiase) at 17:35 when Diesel pinned Tatanka with the powerbomb after Sid walked out of the match. Guest The Real Nosferatu Report post Posted August 22, 2003 Thanks for reminding me of TL Hopper. UGH! Mabel = the next Shockmaster. Tugboat at least got cheers for being aligned with Hogan. Mabel was just...well....no one cared for him.
cawthon777 0 Report post Posted August 22, 2003 Well they shot Mabel in the foot before he even turned heel. How are we supposed to take the 400lb monster heel seriously if he's done clean / semi-clean jobs to every midcard heel on the roster? I could have put money on Shawn winning the KOTR. He had just returned a few weeks earlier and the pops he was getting on TV were amazing - far louder than anyone else involved in the tournament save perhaps Taker. I thought Yoko was going to go over Razor, and with Savio subbing, I figured the finals would have Shawn vs. Yoko.

It seemed like a sure thing that Michaels would win the tournament that year. The nickname "Heartbreak King" was even floating around. To this day, I still wonder what the WWF was thinking by having Mabel win instead of HBK.

Guest Trivia247 Report post Posted August 25, 2003 there was a basic formula in WWF during the 80's and 90's when you got a Big fat guy 90% of the time he is a Heel. King Kong Bundy One Man Gang/Akeem they were always heel. Mable was face intially but he couldn't do much cuz...he was Mable and he was a Planetoid. So turning him heel was the best thing they could do. Because anyone facing the likes of him was always a Underdog...
