College Football - Labor Day Weekend

Recommended Posts

I'm surprised there's no topic up yet for the whole weekend in general.

Ohio State crushed Washington - having no defense and trying to pass on every down may work in the Pac-10 but rarely works anywhere else.

USC manhandled Auburn...I figured it would be a low scoring game but I thought Auburn would be able to score some points - all of Auburn's backs got shut down. And USC's defense - particularly the "Wild Bunch II" defensive line performed as advertised.

Nebraska shut down Oklahoma State's offense down completely - Josh Fields threw three picks and Rashaun Woods only had five catches for 49 yards.

Georgia shut out Clemson...I thought Georgia would have a harder time considering the suspensions - especially in the secondary against Clemson's great recievers but I guess they had no problems at all.

Florida used three quarterbacks - Ingle Martin, Chris Leak and Gavin Dickey - in laying a beating on San Jose State. The question is, will using three work against Miami next week?

The Colorado-Colorado State game was great. I'm liking that Van Belt kid more and more each day even in defeat.

Just got back from LSU kicking the shit out of U. of Louisiana Monroe. The game was delayed almost an hour after a lightning storm started about 5 minutes into the game, after a failed field goal attempt by LSU.

LSU won but looked like total crap for the first quarter, blowing plays they should have made, missing field goals, missing tackles, etc. They went up 21-0 by halftime and really turned it on in the third quarter before they won 49-7.

Best hit of the day for me was the block the Fresno State guy put on the Tennessee punter.

As a UCLA fan, I'm suddenly worried about Colorado's newfound passing game. If Klatt can play like he did against CSU that adds a very deadly element to the Colorado offense - deep passes to complement a very effective running attack.

A-MEN! Good GAWD, that was a sick hit. When you've got people who have been watching hard-hitting Tennessee and SEC football for years going "OHHHHH!" in a sports bar, you're doing something right... even if your team loses 24-7.

I think it's kinda funny how a mere two seasons after having one of the most vaunted rushing attacks in the country, Colorado is now turning on the aerial attack.

Florida is going to be MURDERED again by Miami. Sadly, Tennessee will also (both games in question are AT Miami), but at least we get to watch Florida get shitkicked before we experience it. Watching a Florida shitkicking is almost as great as beating them ourselves.

Man, I missed football. As soon I walked into the sports bar, a guy asked "when do you guys play?" I miss little things like referring to yourself as a member of the team and always using collective terms like "we," "our," and so on.

As a Pac-10 fan it was a beautiful thing seeing the conference favorite in USC just destroy SEC favorite Auburn on their homefield. Yes Auburn was probably overrated but hey some people thought USC might be overrated too.

Oh and Oregon's and Illinois' new uniforms need to be burned.

I thought early in the day, nothing could scorch my eyes like the Illinois ultimate orange uni's. But those Oregon ones were just brutal, no amount of alcohol intake could make them look good!

Hey, look at Penn State struggle against Temple. That doesn't bode well.

At least I'll have Miami. Although, Brock Berlin still has to sell himself to me. Brock Berlin, Kellen Winslow. Kellen Winslow, Brock Berlin. Those guys gotta get on the same page.

I've nearly gone blind again after seeing the Ducks unis. I hope, I HOPE those are just one offs. Didn't care for Illinois's. Oklahoma's retro jerseys rocked.

Jared Lorenzen was pulling plays out of his ass all game long for UK right up until the INT. Then Louisville did what they couldn't do last year - control the clock and run the ball. Great effort from Lorenzen though. Moves well for a 270 pound guy, and has an absolute cannon for a left arm. And Stefan LeFors' wife is pretty hot.

Stefan Lefors? Never thought I'd hear THAT name again. For a second there, I thought you were talking about his brother, who was a star quarterback for LSD (Louisiana School for the Deaf). Anyway, Stefan played for a district rival and shredded us when he started.

I tivo'd the VTech game and just watched it. I was impressed. They have a much better team then I had first thought. They made some minor mistakes, but if those get taken care of they will be a tough team to beat.
