SmackDown House Show

Arena was sold out except for the upper bowl, which was quite empty, so I would say it was about 3/4. I was sitting on the floor in the second row. Great seats.

1) Cruiserweight Title: Rey Mysterio d. Nunzio

Pretty good match that also had a lot of heat. Nunzio is an excellent heel, if only they would use him properly on TV. Mysterio won with the 619 followed by a springboard splash.

2) Basham Brothers w/Shaniqua d. Billy Gunn & Jamie Noble

Average match with Noble getting beaten on for most of it. Sadly Gunn was the most over of the bunch even though Noble did most of the work. Gunn hit his finisher, but Noble tagged himself in ant came off the top with an elbow drop. The other Basham broke up the pin, causing Noble to lose. He and Gunn go back and forth afterwards.

3) Matt Hardy w/Shannon Moore d. Mortis

The crowd had no idea who to cheer for in this one and it definitely hurt the quality of the match. As much as I love Matt, there was a little too much resting here. Matt won with constant interference from Shannon. Kanyon works well as Mortis, but his costume is way too Papa Shango-like and they have not set him as a heel or face yet.

Vince McMahon and Sable stroll out. After some kissing and announcing that John Cena will be the guest ref for the main event, Vince proposes that Sable join the Vince McMahon Kiss My Ass Club. Then he decides that instead of that, he'll kiss her ass. As usual in New York, Vince was mega over until he started with the "You all kiss ass" comments.

4) F.B.I w/Nunzio d. Spanky/Billy Kidman

I took a bathroom break, but the match seemed alright with Spanky and Kidman doing pretty much everything. Some annoying fat chick kept asking Spanky to "spank her", so that is what stood out in my mind. F.B.I wins after Kidman is knocked off the top rope.

5) A-Train d. Orlando Jordan

Obviously this sucked. However, whether anyone wants to admit it or not, A-Train is one of the most hated heels on SmackDown. I'm telling you, if that guy had a smooth back he would be on the unemployment line right now.

6) Tag Team Titles: World's Greatest Tag Team d. APA

Bradshaw's prematch promo consisted of "This isn't an intergender match. Get Shaniqua (Shelton) out of here." As much as I love Haas and Benjamin, the APA really killed this one with too much resting and punching. The crowd really couldn't care less about Bradshaw and Farooq, so there were a lot of BORING chants. Deservedly so.

The champs won with their usual shenanigans.

[iNTERMISSION]

7) Tajiri DRAW Rhyno

I don't know what the fuck happened here but there was a chinlock that lasted at least five minutes. The crowd was PISSED. Then McMahon strolls out and rings the bell. He orders both of them out of the ring because of the reaction from the crowd. At which point he announces...

Diva Bikini Contest

Nidia wasn't all that great, but she was funny as hell. Dawn Marie was hot as usual. Torrie was her usual self and Sable was... old. Torrie would have won if it went by fan approval, but Vince declared Sable the winner. A little brawl breaks out afterwards.

8) Number One Contender's Match - Guest Ref John Cena: Undertaker d. Big Show, Brock Lesnar

Cena did a freestyle that set him as a face, which made little sense since earlier Vince said Cena would help Brock. Very sloppy match with lame chairshots and botched chokeslams. I was just pissed because on the paper they handed out it said Angle would be working this match. Cena called it right down the middle when Taker covered the Big Show. I bolted as soon as he won.

No Kurt Angle. No Eddie Guerrero. No Chris Benoit. Yeah, I wasn't thrilled. Then again, my seats were kick ass, so I can forgive I guess.

I'm glad I didn't go to this show, after considering it for about 2 minutes. I mean, how can you put a house show in New York, and put neither of your main singles champions on it ? Seriously. And some of those matches seem like those squash Superstars-matches from years ago. Matt Hardy vs. Mortis ? A-Train vs. Orlando Jordan ?

It really isn't hard trying to figure out why the house-show business is struggling so much.

Same thing the night before. Also the paper said that Cena would be working a Triple Threat match with Tajiri and Rhyno. How bout yours?

From Lords of Pain:

house show on September 20th is shown twice. Rhyno Vs Tajiri was next. Tajiri was just dancing around when the crowd starts chanting "start the match" "fight already" "stop dancing" ETC. two minutes of offense then Rhyno locks up Tajiri in a mat headlock for nearly 12 minutes.

Crowd was about to explode & riot... until Vince's music comes on HUGE POP. AGAIN crappy audio where you can't hear a damn thing. Rhyno looked scared after what Vince said and I was just waiting to hear "you're fired" from Vince. The words "Bikini contest" are heard but not by a lot of people as Nidia came out

I'm extreamly tired right now, but just wanted to comment on this. This whole segment exlemplifies what I hate about the WWE. A Vince McMahon ego trip overtaking a wrestling match. Vinnie Mac despite being a heel purposely goes out to the ring to get a super pop at the direct expense of a wrestling match. A wrestling match that was PURPOSELY planned out to be horrable so Vince can get his pop and prove once again at least to himself that wrestling sucks and anything else rules unless of course Vince himself is playing out his wrestling dream. Than it's exciting!

It did, but at least they used Cena in some fashion.

Now why not have the bikini contest interrupt A-Train vs. Orlando Jordan instead of the match between two guys the NY crowd is very into?

Because Vince is telling us to like A-Train against our will, at the expense of others more popular and talented.

To paraphrase the late Gorilla Monsoon, "A-Train and Orlando Jordan is a match that could main event anywhere in the world!"

Hey, remember when Albert was wrestling Funaki every week on the house shows, and once or twice a month on Velocity? Now Sean O'Haire has that role.

Brock didn't do the job on Saturday's show either but he did get bitched out by John Cena, that's what was pointed out yesterday.

Supposedly that happened last night as well, but I left before it so who knows.
