Guest MikeSC Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 Germany wants to give the vote... to kids. Yup, way to make Europe look downright comic. http://www.dw-world.de/english/0,3367,1432...647_1_A,00.html -=Mike
Guest DeputyHawk Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 it's things like this make me reconsider my stance that britain should join the euro.
Guest wrestlingbs Posted September 1, 2003 Report Posted September 1, 2003 Hillary Duff... President for life. I can see them wanting fresh blood in the government, but kids?
kkktookmybabyaway Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 Personally, I feel if someone is old enough to pay taxes, then they should be allowed to vote. Not when they're old enough to get an allowance. But could you imagine the stump speeches? "A rattle toy in every diaper bag..."
Guest Agent of Oblivion Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 Totally better lunch at school.
Guest MikeSC Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 Totally better lunch at school. Reminds me of a joke from Conan O'Brien that with the giving of the vote to children, the winner of the next Presidential election --- by a landslide --- was President Mommy. -=Mike
Guest Anglesault Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 How would this turn into anything but adults getting two votes a piece?
rising up out of the back seat-nuh Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 Meh, it's just a publicity stunt to point out that children aren't properly represented by the German government. There's no way anyone with a grip on reality thinks this is gonna go through.

I meant the rights of children. Schools, child safety, places for them to frolic. That sort of thing.

Guest JMA Posted September 2, 2003 Report Posted September 2, 2003 Eh, big deal. This isn't any crazier than some States allowing first cousins to marry.

I guess we would do best to ignore that continent over here. -=Mike

Technically, there is no overriding public good in disallowing first cousins to marry. Yes, it's nasty --- but it's not the job of the gov't to prevent it. -=Mike
