better benot/angle match

I like the ending of the Unforgiven match - Angle tries to be cute using the Crossface and pushing the rope away with his foot (even though the ref sees), but it ends up biting him in the ass as he gets pinned seconds later.

The match had a nice story going for it as well.

I'm gonna be a bit different here and say the match they had on the Unforgiven PPV (last Sept....think it was Unforgiven) was the best. The RR match was great too, but it was a bit more formulaic in that Angle won as expected. Also the first few minutes of that match seemed a bit slower than the previous one.

The Unforgiven match also had the brilliant spot with Benoit using his foot to push away the rope so Angle couldn't reach it, while in the crossface.

Yeah, I liked seeing Brock tap too. But it always seems special when a heel actually wins cleanly without cheating. Faces can win cleanly, but never heels it seems.

Brock tapping sucks. It wasn't built up the least at all, they never teased it once. On top of that, Benoit should have been the man to make Brock tap IMO. Angle can still use the Angle Slam or occasional Top Rope Angle Slam as finishers but Benoit can only get by on the crossface.

So you didn't like it because you didn't see it coming? What a terrible reason for not liking it. Personally that was THE reason I marked out for Lesnar tapping. I was watching it, waiting, expecting for him to roll over, or crawl to the ropes or whatever... tap tap tap BOOM!!! I thought it was pretty badass myself.

While Lesnar tapping was a surprise, it wasn't a good surprise. This isn't some fuckass jobber tapping out, it's Smackdown's #1 Star and one of the best guys on their roster. This _could_ have meant something, they could have played it up big and made the finish to the match that much more entertaining.

I have no problem w/ Brock tapping to anybody, so long as it's built up right. Benoit is just the best choice. Now Brock is Smackdown's #1 Bitch because he's been consecutively schooled by Angle on PPV. All Angle needs to do is get a TKO over Brock and he's come full circle w/ the ass-whooping.

Even though I respect the creativity there, that spot bugs me a bit that the ref didn't try and break the hold because Angle was in the ropes. In the past, announcers have gone crazy whenever a wrestler uses the ropes to their advantage, and I don't see why that spot should've been treated differently.

And I liked Rumble 03 the best, simply because I haven't been caught up in any match like that since HBK first retired. I damn near jumped out of my seat when Angle grapevined the leg on the ankle log. Great match.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

1)Royal Rumble 2003

2)Unforgiven-fantastic action from start to finish

3)The Smackown match after the Rumble-fun as anything

4)Wrestlemania XVII-good story here

5)Smackdown match before Rumble-loved the lucha armdrag Benoit used to counter the Angle Slam. Guerrero had used the same counter in a previous Guerrero/Angle match so it looked like he might've been coaching Benoit!

6)Cage Match-Insane!

7)Backlash-People underate this a little. Very good match

8)Insurrection 2000-The commentating was horrable here but it still didn't ruin the match which was pretty good. How can you not like a match where the body part worked on is the eye?

9)Judgement Day

Notes-I've yet to see the OVW(or is it HWA) Benoit vs Angle that happened right before Wrestlemania or the 2/3 falls match from Insurrection 2001.

-Angle really improved by a lot while Benoit was out with neck surgery

-Despite wrestling quite a bit there hasn't been one match yet where Benoit was the heel and Angle the face.

-The Unforgiven match had Angle preventing Benoit from reaching the ropes, not the other way around. Benoit did use this tatic however the next Smackdown night in the triple threat match between ANgle, Rey and Benoit.

Austin/Benoit was the better match, and it had plenty of emotion. Angle/Austin was also good though (superior to Angle/Benoit).

This is very boderline. Personally, I go with Benoit/Angle 2003 over Benoit/Austin Edmonton because Austin's offence isn't as good as Angle. The idea of wrestling is to make it look credable and despite Angle's noselling of the crossface I think Angle's more believable moveset more than counters Austin's "better selling". Angle/Benoit also had a more awesome finish with innovative counters than Benoit/Austin (granted the finish wasn't Benoit or Austin's fault) Still, I can't fault anyone going either way.

Watch as he NO-SELLS a knee injury to RUNS AT FULL SPEED ACROSS THE RING TO DO A TOP ROPE SUPLEX.

A little controversial but Benoit didn't exactly kill the knee before Angle went for the suplex.

Actually, it's Insurrextion 2000 and 2001, not 2001 and 2002. ;)

Angle is Smackdown's #1 star, because of Lesnar tapping to him.

THAT'S your rebuttal to all that LOTC said?

RR 03', but WM X-7 is very close. The Japanese feel to the match. (Matwork first, then brawling, then nearfalls) really enhanced it for me.

This is not your fight! With comebacks like that who knows what kind of damage he can do around here! Just stay out of this, I'll be fine.........

Yeah I know. I was just in disbelief that this one sentence was considered an adequate rebuttal.

Meh....maybe. ;)

If you recall, Angle's knee injury was part of the storylines at the time (Brock F-5ing his leg into the steel turnbuckle, etc...).

Angle's done the top rope suplex in other matches too. vs HHH at the 2001 Rumble, after lots of leg work from HHH.

I'm with most everyone else, I was in and out of my seat almost constantly during the RR '03 match, and it was the first time in ages I changed my mind more than once during a match as to who I thought was 'definitely' going to win. But I've enjoyed every single one of their encounters, they DO have great chemistry together (and admit it, their feuds are usually booked pretty well).

Incidentally, it is quite possible to run fast with an injured knee, it just hurts and you risk causing it some serious damage. So Angle doing his top-rope belly-to-belly suplex spot after knee work makes him look like he's willing to take the risk and the pain in order to get a chance to finish off his opponent. In my opinion.

They have had tons of great matches, but I say Royal Rumble 2003. Unforgiven and WMX7 were also great matches, but the finishes really hurt them. RR03 had a clean finish. JD2001 was very good, but again had a bad finish. Backlash 2001 didn't work for me because it felt far too rushed.
