TheFranchise 0 Report post Posted September 12, 2003 WWE has pulled Jerry Lawler from the 9/19 Major League Wrestling event in Ft Lauderdale, FL only days before the event is to take place. Lawler was scheduled as part of the babyface team of Terry Funk, Sandman, and Steve Williams against the heel team of Steve Corino, Simon Diamond, and CW Anderson in the War Games showcase main event. WWE officials stated that since MLW has national clearance on The Sunshine Network via Direct TV and some digital cable systems, they were removing Lawler, since MLW was now a "competitor." Mike Johnson of 1wrestling.com has reprted that the decision was made by Vince McMahon himself. The WWE decree was that Lawler would not be allowed to appear on MLW TV. This rendered Lawler useless for the Fort Lauderdale event, since Lawler couldn't appear on any future TV or video footage. This forced MLW to scramble, having to re-edit all references to Lawler out of Monday night's MLW TV show, which is the last TV prior to the War Games event. MLW has a replacement for Lawler, but the promotion has not indicated if he will be announced prior to the MLW show. So who's the replacement? And i'd hardly call them direct competition Vince. Fökai 0 Report post Posted September 12, 2003 (edited) The WWE considering ANYONE "direct competition" is good news for everyone. But anyway, it's simply a good business decision and not one that's motivated by a "threat to the WWE's reign". Since Lawler works at the PPV on 9/21, I'm sure they're going to protect him so that he'll be ready to work the majority of the tag match with Snow at Unforgiven. Gert T 0 Report post Posted September 14, 2003 I hope the replacement is good. I bet its Dusty Rhodes That's beautiful. I was always surprised when Lawler was announced for the match so early, I just thought no way it would go through. The mystery men can be anybody as long as Corino's partner is not Abdullah, that segment with Funk 2 weeks ago might have been the worst 5-10 minutes in the history of pro wrestling.
