AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted September 12, 2003 Stolen from the 411 Maniacs who stole it from some other site... 15 Years of the Blue Guy To celebrate the 15th Anniversary of one of Capcom's most marketable mascots, they are going to release what they call the Mega Man Anniversary Collection. It will include 10 games in all: the entire collection of Mega Man titles (that is, just the 8 MEGA MAN titles, not Mega Man X or any of the other offshoots), as well as Mega Man: The Power Battle and Mega Man 2: The Power Fighters, two arcade titles that were never released in the states. There will also be a lot of bonus items included that can be unlocked, which includes interviews and animations. The Mega Man Anniversary Collection is slated to be released in February here in the States, and will be available for both the Playstation 2 and the Gamecube. -------------------------- Good idea, bad idea? Considering how poorly 7 sold and how 8 wasn't considered much of a big deal, I'm a little iffy on this--a Mega Man X trilogy from the SNES might have been a far better idea. Still, 8 classic titles, 2 arcade games--on one disc...could be worth a purchase, depending on the price. However, the X titles would have been a better idea, or adding them onto the disc as well. Renegade 0 Report post Posted September 12, 2003 I am so fucking there! You can NEVER have enough megaman! *looks at his complete megaman collection* Comment: wonder if these will be straight ports, or updated like the Mario All-Stars/Final Fantasy Anthology titles I doubt it myself, perhaps the nes titles will changed a little, and hopefully not like megaman the wily wars. This just gave me an urge to play Rockman X7 again.

AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted September 12, 2003 What was wrong with Wily Wars? And did that title exist at all on the market, or was it merely a Sega Channel thing?
Renegade 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2003 What was wrong with Wily Wars? And did that title exist at all on the market, or was it merely a Sega Channel thing? Slow unresponsive gameplay, horribly butchered music and sub par sprite updates (nice backgrounds though) and unbalanced weapon damage make it pretty much a big no no. The game did exist on the market since I have a copy of it, but its a very rare game.
Aero 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2003 I can't wait. Mega Man has always been one of my favorite game series, although I still haven't played X5. I have all the original NES games, and I'm only missing X2 for the SNES games. Not having the X series isn't that much of a disappointment. So, is this going to be like Mario All-Stars with brand-new graphics and such? Or will it be the NES games exactly imported?

So, is this going to be like Mario All-Stars with brand-new graphics and such? Or will it be the NES games exactly imported? X5 is probably my favorite of the Playstation series. I was very disappointed in X6...X4 was too short. X5 seemed the right balance of everything, and the clock playing a part in the game was cool. But NEVER BRING BACK THE INSTANT DEATH LASERS!! I HATE THOSE F***ING THINGS!! I don't recall if it was X4 or X5, but I didn't like the revival of Rock Dude. I think the X trilogy would be great to bring back because they revitalized the Mega Man franchise, and X2 and X3 are almost impossible to find. I guess Capcom, masters of milking their venerable cash cows, may do that with a follow up collection. And that's a question I want to know. I hope the graphics are updated, and maybe the music remixed. Don't screw with too much of the game, though. They should still be the same gamesas far as they play. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2003 (In Robert Stack voice, cue Unsolved Mysteries music...): UPDATE!! From Gamers.com: Mega Man Anniversary Collection Announced By: D. F. Smith September 12, 2003 9:52 AM PDT Fans of Capcom's Mega Man franchise have something to look forward to for a change. In anticipation of its franchise character's 15th anniversary, Capcom is bringing out the Mega Man Anniversary Collection for PlayStation 2 and Gamecube, an omnibus collection of some 10 past Mega Man games. Both versions are due for release in the United States this February. Yes, 10 games in one package. It will include all eight mainstream Mega Man side-scrollers, from the NES, Super NES, Game Boy, and PlayStation, plus ports of two arcade fighting games that never saw American distribution, Mega Man The Power Battle and Mega Man 2 The Power Fighters. Though it seems they won't be changed in any untoward fashion, they will include updated soundtracks to take advantage of modern consoles' audio capabilities. As an added bonus, Capcom is also packing in some 30 minutes of animation clips, TV commercials, and producer interviews to unlock, as well as artwork galleries and other trivia related to the franchise. "The Mega Man Anniversary Collection pays tribute to the brainchild behind this multimillion unit selling franchise, Keiji Inafune, and the original games that he created," said Capcom marketing director Todd Thorson. "It gives gamers who have not experienced the Mega Man phenomenon an opportunity to play the titles that redefined the platform genre." Mr. Thorson seems to have gotten cause and effect backwards there, unless Mega Man did indeed somehow give birth to Mr. Inafune, but we'll let that slide and simply look forward to what should be a fine retro package. Okay, damnit, now I'm even more excited. The graphics apparently will stay the same, but musically it will be revamped...wow...the thought of CD-quality redbook audio yadda-yadda coming out of the system while playing some old NES games seems kinda odd, but at least it shouldn't screw up the experience like some remakes do. Matt Young 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2003 Heh, I was actually coming here to post about this. I marked the fuck out when I read this news. I love the Mega Man games, and despite owning most of the games already and having the rest on emulators, I will definitely pick this up when it's released. Although the X games for SNES were slightly better than most of the original series (don't know about the PSX ones; never played them) this collection will include 8 great games as well as 2 previously unreleased titles, making it arguably the best game(s) on PS2 or GameCube. It'll probably be at a dicsount price too, which is even better.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted September 13, 2003 (edited) don't know about the PSX ones; never played them X4 was okay, X5 was really good, X6 sucked a dick. The SNES X games were all pretty good, and the rarity of X2 and X3, the ultra-hidden moves in it (Hadoken, Shoryuken, Tatsumaki Senpuu Kyaku), etc would make it a great follow up collection, maybe even throwing in Megaman and Bass (yeah, I know it came out on GBA, but the screen issues hurt it. Although it wasn't really a great game anyway, so it's not a big deal). Probably it isn't coming to the X-Box because Capcom is a Japanese company, and to get a Japanese company on their side the Microsoft Japan division needs to have a representative hang around with and become drinking buddies with the software companies' presidents. Seriously--that's how the X-Box got Tecmo to release Dead or Alive 3 on X-Box, because I researched it for a project. The price I'm not sure about--Sonic Mega Collection started out about 10 bucks less than the average brand new Gamecube game. Translation in megaman games has always been poor, X6's didnt bother me that much. X5 was too easy for a megaman game, so I liked the fact that the challenge was cranked up a notch. I didnt find it "cheap", because by that standard all nes megaman games are cheap. Also I totally disagree with you with the nightmare system, I thought it was a very good way to keep coming back to each level. Plus X6 has "moonlight" as its intro song, one of the best video game songs ever. Not to mention trying to rescue 128 reploids and defeating the hidden bosses. AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted September 20, 2003 UPDATE!! Game Misinformer magazine (same jackoffs that gave a bad rating to Shantae for GBC) mentions a rumor that a Mega Man X collection is also in the works, and that the collections will likely have Mega Man Soccer and/or Mega Man Chess. Nothing concrete, but if it is at least being considered then bitchin'.
Renegade 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2003 Megaman soccer as an extra? That would be so awesome, it was really addictive (if somewhat crappy)
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2003 Again, it was a RUMOR from Game Informer that announced both packs. However, the original Mega Mans are confirmed, so maybe they're keeping news of the X one a bit more secretive. Mega Man Chess sounds cool. Would it be like Battle Chess except with animated fighting sequences? Or are there completely new rules based on weapon weaknesses and such?

Guest Sakura Report post Posted September 21, 2003 The SNES X games were all pretty good, and the rarity of X2 and X3, the ultra-hidden moves in it (Hadoken, Shoryuken, Tatsumaki Senpuu Kyaku) Hurricane kick is not in....X3 has the gold armor as it's uber secret. If they do an X collection it needs Xtreme 1 and 2 as bonus games. I like the original series but I am more of a fan of the X series. The best part of MMX is the advanced movements. Dash jumping and wall kicking owns. In fact I played through X4 at work last night. I thought the PSX ones were good. X4 is the best in the series and X5 and X6 are ok. My problems with X5 and X6 are for one, Alia. She is obnoxious. I don't ever need her info. The other is the gimmicks. Like the "time" stuff in 5 and the Nightmare stuff in 6. I don't care about that crap. All I want is 8 levels that I go to in any order. No need to add "depth" to Megaman with gimmicks. There is also too much backtracking in X5. From best to work I rank them X4, X, X2, X5, X6, X3.
alfdogg 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2003 I'm SO there. I own all the NES games, plus X2. I also have MM7 and X3 on emulators. My brother owns MM8 as well as X, X4 and X6.
Renegade 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2003 I think the only games I'm missing (beside the arcade units) is the wanderswan color game and the nes japanese board game (which I have NEVER seen a cartridge of).
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted September 21, 2003 I like the original series but I am more of a fan of the X series. Wow, Sakura and I agree on something again! It all comes down to gameplay to me, and the X series has the edge. Jump, shoot, slide, wall-jump, and boss weapons (and something DUCKING!) vs. Jump/shoot. It's just too hard to go back. At least the later version of X have knees capable of bending into a crouching position. Hurricane kick is not in....X3 has the gold armor as its uber secret. Okay, I never got to play it, but I could swear that's what I heard. LAME!! X4 is the best in the series and X5 and X6 are ok. Well, that part I completely disagree on. I think the SNES games--at least X1 and X2, are better. There is also too much backtracking in X5. Being a Metroid fan, that never bothered me.

She's right, gold armor is the tip top secret in X3, just as well since the hadoken was bad enough in terms of how destructive it was. X4 is the best in the series and X5 and X6 are ok. Well, that part I completely disagree on. I think the SNES games--at least X1 and X2, are better. X1 is way too easy, a novice can beat that game by just using the buster. X2 on the other hand is a great game if you try to finish it with Zero's parts. My tied favorite with X6.
