The One and Only Angel Season 5 Thread

Recommended Posts

It tried to kill the SITs, but that doesn't change the fact that at the end FE claimed the ubies were to make it corporeal. That's what it says. In it's own words.

The first was messing with Spike to drive a wedge between the slayer and the scoobies. Other things support "the first wants to break up the scoobies", like telling Dawn that Buffy won't choose her, and -of course- the slayer breaking up with the scoobies.

That's lame though! All that hype about controlling Spike, the trigger, "it's not time", ect. and all it amounts to is "...well it wanted to distract Buffy". That is so anti-climatic!

Andrew was easily manipulated, which is why the first used him. Plus, he's so likable that the scoobies wouldn't kill him/kick him out. Pretty simple.

Oh come on. FE brought him back all the way from Mexico because he was "easily manipulated"? Why Andrew? Why not a random Bringer? Why not just have Caleb cut his hand? That's what Buffy did in Chosen.

It didn't even plan for him to be caught, so saying that he has ties to the scoobies is nonsense. FE brought him back to open the seal, not to mess with the scoobies. The scoobies never would have known it was him had Willow not caught him.

The whole thing with. the seal is just horrible writing. FE first got Andrew to kill Jonathan but that didn't work because there "wasn't enough blood". Then it gets him to try with a pig. WTF? A pig has more blood than Jonathan now? Then Andrew gets caught so a Bringer cuts up Spike to open it, and later that chick cuts open Xander. Huh? If that works why not do that all along? What was the point of Andrew and the sacrifice!? Finally Buffy and the SITs cutting their hands works. So it is just any blood now? And who opened it to unleash those ubies in End of Days anyway? It's so inconsistent

BTW, season 7 starts up again on FX tomorrow. I'm gonna watch it. Sadly, I'm kind of hyped.

I just watched "Dead End" again, and I can't believe that episode wasn't nominated for the tournament. It's great. Lindsay's song = awesome and the chemistry between Angel and Lindsay is just so cool.

You don't own the DVD of your favorite Buffy season?

You don't kiss my ass?

Well...

... KISS MY ASS!

Joss' commentary on The Body -while revealing- almost made me want to shoot myself. I am pissed that they didn't have any featurette and commentary on The Gift. Dumb fuckers.

I thought the whole deal was "There is a balance between Good and Evil - when there is more Evil on earth than good and the balance swings in my favour, I get to be free. The Ubies -being evil- represent that.

That's lame though! All that hype about controlling Spike, the trigger, "it's not time", ect. and all it amounts to is "...well it wanted to distract Buffy". That is so anti-climatic!

Did I say "it wanted to distract Buffy"? I said it wanted to drive a wedge between the scoobies and the slayer. You know, that group which beat A GOD in Season 5 by working together? That, in fact, worked as a group to beat a whole bunch of baddies. The First knew the Slayer was strong when her friends were behind her, it had to fix that. Spike -much like Angel- was a dividing point that had lots of cards the first could play - killing Woods mother being one of them. Xander and Giles could be swung against him given their histories (Spike w. Anya, Giles always thinking of the greater good).

Oh come on. FE brought him back all the way from Mexico because he was "easily manipulated"? Why Andrew? Why not a random Bringer? Why not just have Caleb cut his hand? That's what Buffy did in Chosen.

I gave you an answer. You choose not to accept it. In Season 6 Andrew was easily manipulated by Warren and was dependant on him - so much so that if Warren came back from the grave - even if it defied reasonable thought - Andrew would still accept it and follow his word.

It didn't even plan for him to be caught, so saying that he has ties to the scoobies is nonsense. FE brought him back to open the seal, not to mess with the scoobies. The scoobies never would have known it was him had Willow not caught him.

The plan may not have involved him getting caught, but the possibility was clearly always there - the seal being in the high school and all. The First had back up plans so obviously it expected some plans to fail. And you seriously need some comprehension skills here with your reading. "If Andrew got caught, the scoobies wouldn't kill him" does not equal "the first wanted to mess around with the scoobies." You are taking one thing and putting it in a completely different context. If you are actually looking for answers, fine, but it seems like you're asking questions when you should actually be making statements.

Why Andrew? It was answered.

Why Spike? It was answered.

You don't like those answers, fine. Stop asking questions to which you KNOW you won't accept the answer and just say you don't like it. I don't like how the First stayed in Buffy form 90% of the time. I don't like a lot of that storyline, infact. And some of it you touch on below.

Ok, you're right. Here is a statement: The First Evil is the most retarded villain in the history of television. It used Andrew because he was easy to manipulate...despite having literally an army of minions who would be happy to do it themselves. FE is dumb. It's logic is insane and happenstance, like that of a troll.

I do think the balance thing makes sense though. It mentioned being done with the balance in CWDP to Will.

The "evil hand" rant in Dead End is so cool. I also like the fake hand getting smashed in Ephinany. Though the greatest Lindsay hand scene of all time is when he sarcastically says he will wipe away the tears with his plastic hand when Angel is killed by Lilah.

I'm really hyped to see Selfless again, even though it kind of bothers me.

Plus...

It could morph into any dead creature and was fucking BUFFY for 90% of the time. Why even go through all the bads from the Master to Glory when they weren't planning on using any of them?! (Cept for Warren and The Mayor). That's retarded.

...Though not as retarded as Evil Cordy.

Yeah, that was pretty lame. I liked the FE/Caleb stuff though.

FE shouldn't have been any dead person the majority of the time. It should have had a scarier form for it's regular appearance. I like the demonic CGI beast it turns into(which they recycled 3 times...).

The most disappointing thing about season 7 to me(besides the devestating death I am still grieving from) is that FE just goes away at the end. Soooo lame. I hate how they have Buffy and Giles hype up making it expose it's "true face" and all that and never pay it off. Buffy even promises to kill it but in the end settles for telling it to go away. The fact that yelling at it to leave actually worked is pretty sad. You know she never tried that with Glory or Adam or any other big bad. Maybe it would have worked.

Yeah, I got all the Buffy, Angel and Firefly sets on my shelf. I'm so proud.

I'm on a commentary kick right now. Been watching them the past few days. I am watching Waiting in the Wings with Joss commentary right now.

Joss is an amazing writer/director. The man REALLY REALLY knows what the fuck he is doing.

The critics already love him, but it would be nice if he could get the mainstream respect he deserves.

True. Joss is god. Actually, that goes for everyone involved in his tv projects.

The Buffyverse is the best thing ever.

They would have hit her.

You never know unless you try. FE was like the biggest threat ever(according to them) and it was nice enough to leave when asked nicely.

No, its not inconsitant.

Jonathans blood wasn't suppose to open it, it was suppose to activate the thing...remember in story teller...buffy tells andrew how she had to close the thing with the one who activatied it. after that, it needed blood to open (as in Xander and Spike).

Guest Goodear

I just finished the Season Six of Buffy on DVD and its turned out well but not awesome. I think the Xander-Willow discussion at the end of the season sort of fell a little flat and only really made sense because of outside factors brought up afterwards (Giles). I really think that portion of the show was a bit underwritten if you ask me and could have benefitted from some more lively dialogue. Anyway of the seasons rankings from favorite to least...

Season 4 - Adam

Season 2 - Angel

Season 3 - Mayor

Season 5 - Glory

Season 6 - Trio

Season 1 - Master

Oh this is an Angel thread... Uhm. Nerdy Wes is still pretty bad ass if you ask me. Sure he's not pulling out shotguns or anything but he was pretty nasty with that hand crossbow he used to pin a thugs hand to a wall in the early seasons. Yes he was.

Unsurprisingly (but revealed by Fury in the "Grave" commentary), that Yellow Crayon part was written by Joss.

Anyway, I'm just salivating over the Angel S4 box set. I can't wait until September.

Today I had a mini Angel marathon and watched...

City Of

In The Dark

To Shanshu in L.A.

Judgment

Dear Boy

I'm thinking In The Dark and Dear Boy deserved tourney nominations. Damn retrospect.

In the Dark was in the first round. I think it got beat out by Lineage.

I love Dear Boy. Angel singing "Everybody Have Fun Tonight" is so fucking beautiful. And then there's the classic line:

"I'm not crazy, I saw Darla."

"Where?"

"Between the clowns and the big talking hot dog!"

If that's the case and there's a difference between "activating" and "opening" then how was Buffy able to re-activate it by cutting herself in the end? If she did that it must mean the sacrifice was pointless...which brings us back to why FE didn't just have a Bringer cut it's hand? FE is stupid.

If it's not inconsistency FE is just the dumbest villain ever. Either way the writers loser.
