Guest Brian Report post Posted July 14, 2004 Wolfram and Hart operates because of the evil in the world. The First Evil, when corporeal, would pretty much have a monopoly on it. How could they compete?
Anya 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2004 Why would it being corporeal give it a monopoly on evil? Where are you getting this from? It's all speculation. On the show FE is like as vague as can be.
Guest Brian Report post Posted July 14, 2004 The First Evil is evil. You can't be evil inc. if something's purely evil, and the source of it. Wolfram and Hart would have gotten squeezed out. I don't get why you're not seeing this. Just because FE is vague about what it's shooting for, doesn't mean that it's not clear what the outcome of what it's doing would be. If it becomes corporeal, no matter what its plan was, Wolfram and Hart loses out. Here's Manners' take from Reprise: See, we're in the hearts and minds of every single living being. And *that* - friend - is what's making things so difficult for you. - See, the world doesn't work in spite of evil, Angel. - It works with us. - It works because of us. From Bring on the Night: JOYCE Buffy, evil isn't coming, it's already here. Evil is always here. Don't you know? It's everywhere. Both basically the same idea. But once the first gets a real, concrete, corporeal self on the earth, they'll have a big edge on Wolfram and Hart.
Guest Brian Report post Posted July 14, 2004 Awakening is incredible. I can hardly wait for Season 4 on DVD. There were so many awesome episodes. And I just got Season 3 of Buffy today.
Anya 0 Report post Posted July 14, 2004 FE is already here and already in everyone and everything. Why would having a corporeal body be THAT big of a deal? It's just one more demon on Earth. It would mean it could be killed too. I guess it depends on how you see it's claim that it will be made flesh. And yeah, FE and Senior Partners are pretty much the same concept. Especially since we found out SP are not on this plane and must fight through agents.
Guest Brian Report post Posted July 15, 2004 Well, we always knew they were acting through agents. We just assumed Wolfram and Hart was at the top of the chain of command, never assuming the people they represented and protected could fulfill the role as the top agents. As I see it, once the First stakes it claim, it's basically unstoppable. Pure evil, with an actual presence. How could Wolfram and Hart compete when they act from the outside. Something really interesting I was reflecting on. Look at what Angel went to Wolfram and Hart for. The security, the ability to work from the inside without being corrupted, Connor's new life, an alternate reality, and taking care of Cordy. Well, watch how it slowly crumbles. Cordy dies, Gunn gets corrupted at the expense of Fred, and Connor and everyone get their memories, neatly coinciding with the pick-up of the Black Thorn storyline. I just though it was really neat. Anya 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2004 The hypocrisy in fighting against Jasmine and choosing free will but then taking the Connor deal is pretty interesting.

Not to mention Lorne. He went in thinking he had a dream job, and as early as Life of the Party we saw him being mentally and physically worn down by Wolfram and Hart. By the end of the series, he was completely jaded, having to confront his own guilt in Fred's death, and being asked to do the impossible by Angel in taking a life by assassinating Lindsay. He left with nothing at all, and chances are, he regretted ever meeting AI.
Mole 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2004 I am in the process of making this a classic. Well, atleast asking the mods to make it one. Just start a new thread, this was about season 5 which is now over.
Guest Brian Report post Posted July 15, 2004 Oh, boo! This is the last straw in the Buffyverse. Our last link. It's not just the Season 5 thread, it's the end of an era. Unless they make a Connor spin-off.

Angel was dealing with the idea that he had strayed away from his mission all throughout the early portion of the season, from SPIKE~! to Cordelia in "Your Welcome". But when he learned she had died, it unraveled from there, as Angel not only saw he couldn't do what he wanted to do, but he couldn't even get the precious things had gone out there for. Mole 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2004 I have 968 posts in this thread, there is nothing really to talk about anymore. We have had fun in this thread and now it is time to end. When the Buffy thread ended, I wish it didn't end. However, it was great but now this the longest topic thread in TSM history. EDIT: This is my second-to-last post in this thread. The next one will probably be right before this is a classic. It has been fun people.

Just start a new thread, this was about season 5 which is now over. Agreed, this should be made classic...then for those who still wish to discuss things we can just open a general Buffy/Angel thread.

BlackFlagg 0 Report post Posted July 15, 2004 In a surprising turn, newly ensconced WB head Garth Ancier admitted that cancelling ANGEL may have been a mistake. During the TV Critics Press Tour yesterday, Ancier claimed that had the network and producers Twentieth Century Fox held off the February decision, ANGEL might have been renewed: "The mistake that was made between us and Twentieth was that we didn't wait until May, we just made the decision early based upon their request." Last year, ANGEL was "on the bubble" and renewed at the last moment. Typically, series' fates are decided by programmers once all new show pilots are previewed. This time around, the producers and ANGEL creator Joss Whedon requested that the network make an early February call for renewal. Then-CEO Jordan Levin informed Whedon over dinner that ANGEL would be axed. The WB had two highly anticipated potential genre series, Lost in Space and Dark Shadows, neither of which panned out, leaving a hole in the program schedule. Dark Shadows, in particular, was expected to be a drop-in replacement for ANGEL, but says Ancier, the production did not "gel." Series "on the bubble" could go either way. This past season, two such genre shows, UPN's Star Trek: Enterprise and FOX's Tru Calling, were renewed just prior to the "Up Fronts" -- when networks showcase their Fall line-up for potential advertisers. According to Ancier, there's still interest in doing special ANGEL TV movies, but that David Boreanaz would need some "coaxing" to return to the role. Ancier's statements may be viewed as a way to distance his new WB administration from that of former CEO and chief programmer Jordan Levin, who resigned last month and was seen as responsible for the end of ANGEL. Guest Brian Report post Posted July 16, 2004 At least this shows some interest within the network of doing something in terms of movies.
Anakin Flair 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2004 It's like they are screaming "It's not really our fault! Watch our shows in the fall!" Only thing I'll wathc is Smallvill,e and that I'll probably tape. Actually, I'll have to tape it, since I have night classes on Tuesday. Oh, well...
Tawren 0 Report post Posted July 16, 2004 I want to mention how awesome Wesley is, even in his early days (Season 3 Buffy/Season 1 Angel). The character is so great, and even though he is mostly played for comedy before turning into bad ass Wes, he is still able to be a good and deep character. Tons of hilarious moments, too, especially in "Bad Girls" when he is talking to Buffy for the first time.

AnonymousBroccoli 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2004 Canadian folk, Future Shop has a sale going for 1st season DVD box sets. Seems to be mostly 20th Century Fox stuff. The Whedonverse, The Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama, King of the Hill, Malcom in the Middle, The Shield, 24, etc. It's in-store and online, though they usually only have one or two copies of these things in-store, and most of them are out of stock online, so you'd have to wait until they re-stock to get 'em. In any case, the prices are roughly half off, so it's a fine deal. Edit: It's in-store at Best Buy as well.
Anya 0 Report post Posted July 17, 2004 Old school Wes is awesome. He was my favorite character on Angel and one of my top characters on Buffy. He is just so funny adorable. It's funny how Faith is like "screw this" and just walks out in Bad Girls.
Guest Brian Report post Posted July 17, 2004 If Rudo or Tony Jaymz gets on, pm me about the Connor episodes. I've been trying to get both you guys for a while. I was just listening to Joss' interview on the Graduation Day disc, and Alexis was asked what he wanted to do, and he said he just wanted to get knocked down and stay down for the fight. Gotta love Alexis' feel for comedy.

Tawren 0 Report post Posted July 18, 2004 I watched lots of Buffy season 3 today, and I have to say that out of the multitude of kick ass my favorite season has, Earshot has maybe my favorite couple of lines in the Buffyverse. Oz (thinking) : If Buffy can read my thoughts, then she is me, and I cease to exist as Buffy becomes what I am. Oz (aloud) : Hm.
Guest Brian Report post Posted July 18, 2004 OZ (V.O.) I am my thoughts. If they exist in her, Buffy contains everything that is me and she becomes me. I cease to exist. OZ Hmm... And then later: No one else exists either. Buffy is all of us. We think. Therefore, she is.
Guest Brian Report post Posted July 19, 2004 I saw "Home" tonight on reruns. I totally underrated this episode the first time. There's this great part in Angel's fight with the keeper where the Hi8gh Priest tells him he's already lost Connor. And the Angel/Jasmine dynamic was really good.
