Guest Brian Report post Posted March 12, 2005 How can you not love Druscilla? And Angellus and William just ooze the homoeroticism, what with all the manly trials and the sharing of slaughter. I love Spike just crashing into the door. "Is this otter?" Spike just melts Harmony away. First thing he wants to do is shag. Spike fucking knocking her out was hilarious. I don't know why, I just thought it was funny. They brought back Cirque (sp?). I love this character. "Perpetual torment. You know that's not going to taste very good." "Where's Spike." Spike's got the car and listening to Sex Pistols. God, I love SPIKE~! Manly way. SPIKE (cell phone rings) Yello. ANGEL (O.S.) You took my Viper. SPIKE (grins) My Viper now, mate. Possession's 9/10s. Oughta know that, running a law firm and such. Show that Angel is driving down the same highway as well. ANGEL You think this is a game? People are dying. SPIKE And one of us is going to stop it. Hey, what do you know? I vote for me. ANGEL There's no voting. It's a prophecy. And the Shanshu's not about you, Spike. SPIKE Still can't accept it, can you? Sad, really. All these years believing you're the signified monkey, only to find out you're just a big hunk of nobody cares. ANGEL I really wished you stayed a ghost. SPIKE But I didn't, did I? Burned up saving the world, and now I'm back for real. Wonder why that is? Oh, wait. 'Cause I'm the one, you git! ANGEL Spike, I don't have time to— SPIKE (imitates static) What that? I'm losing you. You're— ("static") What do they call it? ("static") Oh, right. Breaking up. You're breaking up. ANGEL Spike, don't— SPIKE (hangs up) Ponce. ANGEL (hangs up) Idiot. I love how in the scope of this episode you have a mention of what made Spike who he is. For one, him and Harmony talked about his mom at the start pre-corporeal, and now you see Angellus mounting Druscilla from the back and both of them laughing at him. I love this fight scene. I love how Angel can't touch the cross and later Spike picks it up. And I also love how Angel took something away and now Spike's taking something that Angek assumed was his. I love how Angel calls him "Willy". "There no belonging or deserving anymore...nothing is yours." And Angellus tells him to find a new name for himself. "I guess she was thinking about you all those times I was putting it to her." If they rolled the whole fight scene out, rather than interspersed it between so much dialogues and scenes, this would be the best fight scene they've ever put on. Better than the Beast. Tells a story in itself and the dialogue fucking rules. Better than Apocalypse Nowish. And I love the end, with Spike saying, "I didn't want to have her (Buffy) hear about it." Angel makes one last plea. Spike: "Bit of both." And both of them got played. I love Angel at the end. ANGEL I don't know. He beat me, Gunn. GUNN Who, Spike? Looks to me like he got as good as he— ANGEL No. He beat me to the cup. GUNN You mean the fake cup? The make-believe, fairy-tale cup? So what?! ANGEL No, you don't... (sighs) He won the fight, Gunn... for the first time. Doesn't matter if the cup is real or not. (sighs) In the end, he... Spike was stronger. He wanted it more. GUNN Angel, it doesn't mean anything. ANGEL What if it does? What if it means that... I'm not the one? And the big reveal with Lindsay, which is a sidenote to the "Spike is your motherfucking champion" story. RavishingRickRudo 0 Report post Posted March 12, 2005 I disagree. Earlier on, I think Gunn felt like he wasn't part of the group and integrated fully. But not sad and tortured. I mean under the spell. The case could always be made that Gunn was lonely. Infact, the case could be made that _all_ of them are lonely.

Anakin Flair 0 Report post Posted March 13, 2005 Thought you all would like this... http://p089.ezboard.com/fuxnfrm27.showMess...picID=213.topic You have to be a member to view it, but the thread in the link is basicaly the anti-thesis to this thread here. It's amazing to see some of the arguments people over ther are making about why Buffy, Angel, Firefly, and Joss in general suck: @ Luck: If you want me to start talking about dimensional portals and bestial mutations and some such ridiculous stuff from the end of Buffy.... well, I can't think of a way to finish that sentence, the last season just wasn't right. I didn't really get into the show until halfway through it's run, and even then I wasn't a big fan, I just watched it if I was already on my ass and it was on TV. But the end was definitely convoluted, stupid, and really didn't involve a whole lotta "vampire slaying," which is FLAGRANT false advertising... but whatever. Also after watching "American Pie," I couldn't look at Alyson Hannigan's character anymore without laughing. And that was one of the few posts that almost made sense! Guest Brian Report post Posted March 13, 2005 How do you see that in relationship with Buffy? I think the thing about Angel is that everyone was alone, and then came together, whereas in Buffy everyone was together except for her. They may have got batted down at times, but in general it was only Buffy who was alone. The characters in Angel were all pretty lonely; but brought together in the fight. SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted March 14, 2005 I finally got done watching my season 5 DVDs. I loved it so much it made we want to go out and buy the other seasons so I could watch them all over again. Something weird to me, though: the Angel Season 2 DVDs are anamorphic widescreen despite the fact that the episodes weren't originally broadcast in widescreen, and it plainly says "Fullscreen" on the back of the box. Guest Brian Report post Posted March 14, 2005 Bravo! I didn't catch anything but Season 5 the first time around, and the DVD deal has really allowed me to get a full grasp of everything. Go out and buy those DVD's.
Guest Brian Report post Posted March 15, 2005 Pavayne and Sebassis get mentions in the video. Nice how they play up Angel pulling the little power plays, against the killing, but not seeing the big picture. I don't like a whole lot about this ep, but I like how it points out that Harmony is a lonely person like the others, and maybe she has a place in the group. Only that things have changed, and where she fits in is Wolfram and Hart. Interesting. Harmony knows that Fred has the eyes for Wes. Didn't the mayor tell all the vamps not to feed at graduation? Not that they'd all listen. Wolfram and Hart owns the police. I like that. I love the scenes with Harmony dragging people into the closet. Spike's back at the end. Funny episode, but not much weight to it.

SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2005 The Girl in Question is a little better the second time through, although I still say it's too late in the series for a comedy episode and seems out of place in between Angel's going back to the dark side deal. One of the few reasons why season 5 isn't better than season 4. That and the whole Lindsey thing. I just didn't get that story line, even though Lindsey showing up like that was awesome. I gotta disagree based entirely on the grounds that I disliked the Jasmine arc so very, very much. Speaking of Lindsey, I rewatched part of "Dead End" yesterday. The scene where he resigns from Wolfram and Hart, and the subsequent scene where he and Angel say their goodbyes was pure comic gold. "Stop it, evil hand, stop it! I just can't control my evil hand." "I'm glad I didn't have to do something immature here."
Guest Brian Report post Posted March 17, 2005 Lindsay and Angel never liked each other. After Angel sent him away acting all high and mighty, then went and took the position he was being groomed for, he got jealous. He brought back Spike to sic him on Angel. Mole 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2005 They hated each other. And once again I hate all of you for having season 5. Since I don't. Bitches.
Guest Brian Report post Posted March 17, 2005 Not just that. Angel was an absolute hypocrite taking the position that he got Lindsay out of. And it was a position Lindsay deserved, that he worked for.
SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2005 3 things in Angel's defense: 1) I doubt he'd have taken the job if they hadn't promised to "fix" Connor. 2) When orginally presented with being head of the firm, they implied he could do whatever he wanted. It was only after Eve showed up to explain the "catch" that he learned he'd basically be a the Sr. Partners' collective mercy. 3) Lindsey walked away from the job. Who gives a fuck what he thinks? Guest Brian Report post Posted March 17, 2005 1) I doubt he'd have taken the job if they hadn't promised to "fix" Connor. Lindsay didn't know that, so it wouldn't have mattered to him. 2) When orginally presented with being head of the firm, they implied he could do whatever he wanted. It was only after Eve showed up to explain the "catch" that he learned he'd basically be a the Sr. Partners' collective mercy. And Lindsay knew that's what Angel assumed. He still took the keys to evil inc. 3) Lindsey walked away from the job. Who gives a fuck what he thinks? Lindsay walked away with Angel's help. That's important. Because Angel was all high and mighty, about vfighting the good fight and all that stuff and here he makes the ultimate compromise. Yes, Lindsay walked away; but at the same time it was his mortal enemy taking the reigns of something he worked so hard for. Angel was being a hypocrite, but a hypocrite who took something that Lindsay felt (once) should have been his.
SuperJerk 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2005 I see. From Lindsey's point of view, Angel is a hypocrite. Gotcha.
Guest Brian Report post Posted March 17, 2005 Yeah, that's pretty much it, and when Lindsay saw him taking that position, he asked himself, "Why did I leave? This is the guy who told me it was the right thing to do, the wrong place to, and here he is taking the spot. The spot I should have had."
Ripper 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2005 Damn this season kicked so much ass. I have about 10 DVDs I haven't watched yet because I keep watching this season of angel over and over and over again. Yeah, it kicks some season 4 ass mole...sorry.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted March 17, 2005 I meant to add more and completely forgot. Lorens slow decent into what said "good night folks" and walked away in the final ep was one of the greatest things about the final season. It began before the Fred incident, and after giving himself that stirring speech in shells(i think it was shells, rights? The scene at the bar?) Angel starts his super secret plan that pretty much kills all the joy he had left in him. I think it was the only end to his character. Him duking it out in the ally wouldn't have felt right honestly. His good night folks and the coldness that he delivered the "I've heard you sing." line had me marking ot almost as much as the "But we won't care"line from Hamilton and Gunns "Lets make them memorable". Its just that this season was presented as a bunch of one shot shows, but when watched together, it was still one big arch the whole time "watch how much attention is paid to the little demon that pours hypnotic out of its wrist so Sabastious(sp?) could drink it...that was going to have to play a role later. And the fell bretheren at the party....) It was one of the finest seasons of the series, and with it, pushed it ahead of Buffy in the "which show was better" catagory.
Guest Brian Report post Posted March 17, 2005 I totally agree with the one big arc, especially from "You're Welcome" onward. Watch how everything Angel came to Wolfram and Hart for falls apart before his eyes, even going back to the "Spike is the hero" arc and "Destiny" where he loses Buffy, another benefit of coming (he saved her but it only served Spike). I've said it before, but pretty successively he loses Cordy, Fred, Gunn, Connor, and all the memories that went along with it. And he already gave up himself. Mole 0 Report post Posted March 19, 2005 I was thinking today about THE BEAST. Why was he Russian?

Mole 0 Report post Posted March 19, 2005 Russians are bad ass?
Guest Brian Report post Posted March 19, 2005 Prussians can be badass too. Anyways, time for my "Soul Purpose" review. I love how they open back on “Destiny”. Spike brings up the same kind of feeling that Angel has brought up time and time again, that he things he’s done have amounted to nothing. And Angel suffers the same fate, burning to death, as Spike faced in “Chosen”. Lindsay~! Feeling kind of lost? Awesome reference to the theme of the show, why Spike has come over. “You can call me Doyle.” What a fucker. The big power play at Wolfram and Hart. I love how Spike calls it Angel’s mission to do things. SPIKE Well, what do you expect? Out alone in this neighborhood? I got half a mind to kill you myself, you half-wit. GIRL What?! SPIKE I mean, honestly, what kind of retard wears heels like that in a dark alley? Take 2 steps, break your bloody ankle. GIRL I was just trying to get home. SPIKE (pushes her shoulder, ushering her down the alley toward a lit street) Well, get a cab, you moron. (calling after her as she walks away) And on the way, if a stranger offers you candy, don't get in the van! (under his breath) Stupid cow. I love how Angel just wants to kill everyone. “Let’s get back to the basics.” WESLEY Finally coming to grips with the truth... that you're irrelevant. ANGEL What? WESLEY It's difficult to face, I know. But things could've been much worse. Spike's arrival's actually quite fortuitous. (takes a wooden stake out of his waistband) It'll make this a lot easier. ANGEL Wha—what? What are you— (Wesley stakes Angel in the chest; Angel screams) Aah! The irrelevant part goes all the way back to Reprise and Epiphany where Angel realizes he can’t do anything, and also Wes betraying. Which is an issue as Eve brought it up, and will come back to him at “Origin”. I love how they’ve teased the tension while bringing the two back together. I love Spike with the heroic spin in the fight scene and then busting out the spring-loaded stakes, ala “City of”. “I’m the hero.” Fucking man with no name, no human contacts. Fred in the lab is a great scene. Taking out his very small heart, harkening back to “The Cautionary Tale of Numero Cinco.” Pulling out all that stuff was pushing it. “You’re empty. There’s nothing left. Just a shell.” Fred with the foreshadowing. The Spike story is so great. Bottle of hooch and some Sex Pistols. Spike fucking Buffy. Spectacular. And Spike tells him he has something on his shirt (the parasite, though not onscreen). Everyone watching the apocalypse. Interesting because it was passing them by, right under their nose, and that they hadn’t done anything. And Lorne tells him there’s something on his shirt. I love the whole “Spike save the world” deal. Spike’s great. And so is Fred. They’ve got the corniest castle outside the window. “I didn’t do this for a reward.” Spike with the heart was a cool moment. And then we see Angel has been passed up, sold himself out, and become the mail guy. You know, I positioned the turning point in the season as later, but this is really it. Angel see his fate, he gets that first taste of what goes wrong with him and Buffy, and then Cordy gives him the vision and he loses her, and all the dominoes fall from there. I love the lawyers and Spike. This episode has such a great Season 1 vibe while keeping everything in perspective. The great conundrum of trying not to be corrupted. “The compass needle keeps spinning. And the world gets murkier and murkier.” I love how Harmony says “Act like we care” when talking about calling him. That’s just a slick line. FRED (bored) I told you he was empty. The camera turns to show Fred, Wesley, and Gunn sitting at a bar table watching Angel and Lorne. WESLEY Yes, but this is ridiculous! (leans forward) We paid good money for this. (cocks his head) We paid blood for this. LORNE (to Angel) Crowd's turning on ya, sport. Gunn's snarls, revealing his silvery cat-eyes; he hisses angrily at Angel. EVE (walks up to the table where Fred, Wes, and Gunn are sitting) (to Angel) You poor thing. You're really suffering, aren't you? LORNE (to Angel) You still got that thing on your shirt? That whole dialogue says a lot. Paid blood for this, meaning in coming to Wolfram and Hart. Angel’s blood in signing, Cordy and Fred in dying, Angel’s blood as in Connor. All those thing were what they gave up to come here. Fred calling him empty, a shell again. And Gunn turning into the cat, which is what happens in “Hole in the World” when he goes up to the white room; the conduit takes his form. I like how they play the scene out like Angel. The temptation to not do anything, to not get up and fight. “All you have to do is not care.” And Spike saves Angel. How fitting. “No need to thank me. Just helping the helpless.” I love the team moment when Angel realizes Eve was apart of it. And then Eve tells him that he should look within, as in Gunn (for Illyria) and Wes (for Connor). That was a pretty spectacular episode. Lots of good laughs, tons of cool references, and lots of good foreshadowing. I love some of the dialogue, especially Wes and Gunn in Spike’s apartment. And the dreams were really well done.
