The One and Only Angel Season 5 Thread

Recommended Posts

Guest Brian

After seeing most of Season 4 now, I have a couple questions that I'm hoping someone could answer:

The whole motive behind the deal with W&H was that Connor could live a normal life, at least for Angel?

How did Lorne lose his ability?

And from Season Two/Three of Buffy, how did Angel manage to get back from the hell dimension?

Yes. Which brilliantly worked into the theme of free-will. However, each one of them had their reasons to stay there (Fred with the science office, Wes with his books, Gunn with the conduit - being important, Lorne with the celebs). But if you look at it in relation to Jasmine and how they started to blur the lines between right and wrong, it's pretty neat how they played it up.

How did Lorne lose his ability?

Wolfram and Hart extracted his "reading" of Cordy; which foretold the arrival of The Beast and Jasmine. That messed up Lornes ability; he didn't "lose" it though.

Can't help you on the Buffy stuff though, I'm a Season 5 expert :)

That's the great question that there is no truly definitive answer too.

We are told by the First in season 3 that it was the power that brought Angel back.

He accepted that as fact and it was never mentioned again until the finale of season 7.

If you think about it in terms of the two shows...The amulet that brings the first down in the end was given to ANGEL to use (although in season 5 of Angel they are less forthcoming with that as fact...and instead playoff that maybe Spike was the intended party all along).

For all intents and purposes...the First brought Angel back.

Angel got back either by the Powers that Be sending him back(as they alluded to during the Angel Series) or he was sent back by the First...which none of them really believed.

And the even hotter thing about the end of season 4, they had just fought Jasmine and took away a "perfect" world would be devoid of free will....then angel made the decision for all of them that they would be taking the deal from Wolfram and Hart(I honestly don't think Wes or Fred were going to take it). So basically Angel did the exact same thing they had just fought against once you think about it.

Actually, Lorne never lost his ability, but Cordy did something to him. When Angelus had his soul put back into him, Cordy made it look like it actually worked, but in fact it didn't. That is when Lorne lost his ability, to quote Lorne, "That explains why my mojo's been gunked up. Queen Bee-atch put the whammy on me."

Yeah, which is PERFECT because it blurs the lines between right and wrong which was/is a theme of Season 5.

Hows about this: She-who's-name-must-not-be-said (Jasmine), who may or may not have been a powers-that-be (I think they said she was), brought Angel back because Angel fucked Darla who gave birth to Conner who fucked Cordy who gave birth to human Jasmine. Afterall, _everything_ that went on in their lives was meant to bring about Jasmine.

Ah this too... I have been trumped :(

Did I mention how much I hated Evil Cordy... or even Champion Cordy...

Have I mentioned how much I'm happy Cordy is gone :)

I wasn't the biggest fan of champion Cordy, but I didn't hate her.

I liked the Cordy that came back in "You're Welcome." She had some bitch in her and some of the champion in her.

Yeah, Dead Cordy was great ;)

Even though they built up Champion Cordy well with the Painful Visions and whatnot, I still couldn't accept her as a selfless champion and lover-of-Angel (despite her initial crush on him in Buffy).

I don't really believe the First brought Angel back. And I don't think he accepted that fact either. I think the unexpected snow in the episode the First first appeared in made him think that maybe someone else could've brought him back. Buffy herself even questions why Angel would believe the First just because it claims to have brought him back. You could probably make a claim that it was the Powers That Be that sent the falling snow and that they brought Angel back. This was even eluded to in season one of Angel.

Regardless, this was mentioned several times after season three but before Buffy's seventh season. So it wasn't forgotten or anything.

I say the Powers That Be brought Angel back.

If she was a better actress I may have been able to buy her character changes. But I never could. In 7 years I never bought her character progression because she was far and away the worst actor in the Whedonverse.

Yes, CC was a horrible actress at first, but she got pretty decent over time.

That one line in "Becoming Pt 2" that she says at the end almost kills me. "Well, she has to show up some time, we have school." Or whatever she says, is SOOO bad. UGH.

To be honest, I never really paid attention to Charisma's acting ability. I did like Cordelia when she was on "Buffy," though. I even liked her initially on "Angel." But I agree, the romance between Angel and Cordy did seem forced. I also didn't like it when she became preachy towards Angel and co.

I think I am the only one that liked Cordy from beganing to end. I liked her in all her stages (although she came off more bitchy than evil in season 4) I still liked the girl.

I'm not saying I didn't like her in other incarnations. I just preferred the Cordelia from the first three seasons of "Buffy" and the first season of "Angel."

Really?

Looks at hat.

Yup, I'm trying to be "hip."

Silly Mole... uh.. I've got nothin'.. :P

Just make fun of my neck.

I always liked Cordy, except when she was evil because I didn't believe it. CC should never be a villian in a film.

HOLY CRAP.

I was watching Waiting in the Wings this weekend and I noticed what could be the GREATEST SUBTLTY EVER!

Cordy: "Yee. Scary. - Well, it's a good thing it wears off right away."

Cordy laughs as both of them look down. Angel takes off his tux jacket and folds it over his arm, strategically positioned in front of his body.

Angel: "Yeah. Good thing."

I had never noticed that until now (my third viewing of the episode) and it makes me crack up every time. It's little things like that that make the episode.

Yeah, that was hilarious stuff. Excellent ep too, even though they've done the "possessed by ghosts" bit before.

Hmm, other than "Anne" I think "Waiting in the Wings" is the worst epispode Joss has ever written.

Are you kidding? I considered it one of his best. The ongoing theme of waiting too long, Lorne calling Angel pastries, and the awesome fight scenes (Wes should do them more often), plus Wes' heartbreak when he sees Gunn and Fred...just a great episode.

Plus, Joss also wrote "The Freshman"

Okay, I said that wrong.

"Waiting in the Wings" just didn't do anything for me. I guess you can call it a personal choice if anything.

Not in the thread cause I have to do slow ass downloads to see the show. But IMDB has today listed as Alyson Hannigan's 30th birthday.

mmmmm, Alyson. Doesn't seem 30 though.

Damn, no she doesn't at all.

YnA, have you tried Buffy.nu for downloading the episodes? You can download each episode by each act, and it doesn't take too long on a modem.
