Maintenance worker dies at apartment complex

September 18, 2003

A lawn maintenance worker was killed this morning after his riding mower flipped near the edge of a small lake at an apartment complex, pinning him under the water.

The 29-year-old man was trapped about 20 minutes before co-workers spotted the wheels of the upturned mower, ran to the lake, and pulled him out, according to Marion County Sheriff's deputies.

"I saw the guys all running and yelling … everybody was trying to pump him and give him CPR until an ambulance arrived," said Arnel Cummins, 34, who also was working at the Brookview Apartments, 1150 Aqua Vista Drive.

The complex is just north of 10th Street and east of Mitthoefer Road.

The man, who was not identified until relatives could be notified, was operating the mower around 9 a.m. on a steep embankment that leads down to the small lake.

The vehicle, about the size of a golf cart, tipped over into the water and trapped him.

The victim was transported to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

No further details were immediately available.

Its current, its news... discuss or bugger off

What the fuck was the point? Should we start posting traffic accidents from the morning we get here.

A old man had a heart attack yesterday, should I start a thread.

And how is this funny?

And how is this funny?

Maybe if we add some sound effects:

A lawn maintenance worker was killed this morning after his riding mower flipped near the edge of a small lake at an apartment complex, pinning him under the water. <PLOP! SPLASH!>

The 29-year-old man was trapped about 20 minutes before co-workers spotted the wheels of the upturned mower, <DERP!> ran to the lake, and pulled him out, according to Marion County Sheriff's deputies.

"I saw the guys all running and yelling … everybody was trying to pump him <GURGLE! GURGLE! GURGLE!> and give him CPR until an ambulance arrived," said Arnel Cummins, 34, who also was working at the Brookview Apartments, 1150 Aqua Vista Drive.

Didn't do anything for me. Oh well, at least I tried...

But you act like there was something freakishly odd about this accident. There isn't anything to discuss really. Its just this guy died on a riding lawnmower while going up a along a steep hill. What...

A friend of my mothers got killed when a bulldozer turned over at a landfill yesterday...should I post that so we can "discuss"

This folder is turning into the Star or something.

Children Find Man Pinned Under Lawnmower

( Air Date: 9/18/2003 )

Three young children playing in a creek in Gentry

came upon the body of a man who was pinned face down under a riding

lawnmower that rolled on him while he was trimming a yard nearby.

Police say 34-year-old Gary Woodlee appeared to have died

Wednesday morning. The three boys found him after school that

afternoon.

Officials say an embankment gave way and Woodlee fell five feet

into the ankle-deep water.

I'd support a movement to start posting news about accidents...but only if it's a nasty accident and there's pictures of the carnage.

This folder is turning into the Star or something.

You say that like it would be a bad thing...the star is surely more entertaining than whatever you'd call this folder.
