Guest Jay Z. Hollywood Report post Posted September 26, 2003 Hey, New review up, as promised, of a fantastic, little-known IWA Mid-South show featuring star-making performances from Alex Shelley and Jimmy Jacobs. And honestly, it felt pretty damn good telling RF and Gabe where to shove their tapes. Although I'd appreciate it if most of the feedback is about the actual review. http://thesmartmarks.com/artman/publish/ar...icle_1197.shtml
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye 0 Report post Posted September 26, 2003 Jay brings the hatred! Pretty nice review, if only because you've probably sold me a tape. Smartmarkvideo is where I go then to get it?
Guest Jay Z. Hollywood Report post Posted September 26, 2003 Yup, Smart Mark Video is your official source for IWA:MS and CZW.
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye 0 Report post Posted September 26, 2003 Is this a good tape to introduce me to IWAMS? I'm an absolute fresh faced unpopped indy virgin except for some ROH and TNA downloads.
Guest Jay Z. Hollywood Report post Posted September 26, 2003 Hm, it might not be the best "intro" per se. Most of the roster is left off this tape, and since this is such a minor show the production quality is not as good as it usually is (this show is a one camera shoot as opposed to the normal two or three, and the ring is virtually inaudible) Basic IWA Intro shows: 1. Ted Petty Invitational- Greatest Indy Wrestling Show in History. $35 though. 2. Quote the Raven- Raven vs. Chris Hero main events, plus plenty of other guys from TNA are there- off the top of my head, David Young, Chris Sabin and Jimmy Rave. Daffney's there too. 3. Revolution Strong Style Tourney- CM Punk, BJ Whitmer, Chris Hero, Ian Rotten, and Stan Dupp (actually a very good stiff worker outside of the gimmick) and some others in a pure wrestling tournament. 4. 300th show- tons of good stuff, showcases virtually all of the regular roster. 5. Simply the Best 4- CM Punk, Jonny Storm, Shark Boy, Tracey Smothers and plenty others in a great show top to bottom. 6. We Are Family -6 hours, two tapes, 25 matches, for only 20 dollars. All the regular roster's there, and proceeds from the tape go to charity. Out of those 4-TPI's obviously #1, but if you want an inexpensive single tape show, I'd go with Quote the Raven. And We Are Family is always an automatic recommendation from me- it's a beyond fantastic deal
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye 0 Report post Posted September 26, 2003 Ok thanks Jay. Think I'll start with the We Are Family show first for the dollar to bang ratio then TPI. On my way to indy learnedness. I'm sure I'll be asking more 'newbie' questions later.

Nevermortal 0 Report post Posted September 26, 2003 Jay, great review. I'll go to RoH shows but I will never, ever buy another RoH tape from RF again. After what they said to Nick Mondo (a man who've I've actually conversed with via e-mail), I just can't, out of principle.
Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted September 26, 2003 Feh, I actually broke down and got NWA:Wildside from RF this past weekend, but save for the local ROH shows, they're not getting any more of my money. I'll support the promotion, but no way am I contributing to the video sales when Rob is nothing but a bootleg hack. I guess I should also put review feedback, eh Jay? . Seems like a great show to me. We both know I've gotta get my hand on some IWA-MS, and I'll take the suggestions you've given me in the past/given Thumbtack here first in order to familiarize myself, but this show seems like it'll reside in my collection sooner than later. Guest Jay Z. Hollywood Report post Posted September 26, 2003 Just letting you all know that the tape review has been updated, with a plug for Zack's site, the Wrestling Superstore (www.wrestlingsuperstore.com)
Nevermortal 0 Report post Posted September 26, 2003 You know, I never really ended up finding Zack's location....whereabouts off Park Ave are you guys Zack?
Zack Malibu 0 Report post Posted September 26, 2003 Hey thanks Jay. You know I was just joshin', but that was cool of you to do. 'Mortal, I'll PM you some directions in a bit.
PsychoDriver 0 Report post Posted September 26, 2003 Good review and nice PWG ref. BTW. I know I promised in my previous review that I’d be starting my CZW reviews, starting with the Extreme 8, but sometimes you just love a show so much you have to spread the word. Question, why you reviewing CZW: Extreme 8 next? That was no dobut the worst CZW show this year (Maybe the worst since 2001) I'd rather see a good CZW show reviewed
Guest Jay Z. Hollywood Report post Posted September 26, 2003 The real reason? Because it's short, lol. But you are correct. I'm going to push that back for later. I just got Redefined a couple days ago. I figure that's a show a lot of people would be interested in. *That'll* be next PD.
