EdwardKnoxII 0 Report post Posted September 27, 2003 Ok the guy posted this on a wrestling board and I'm posting it here. Enjoy TOP STORY: Brock and Goldberg win world titles! Hooray! TOP 5 STORIES OF THE WEEK: #1 - Brock and Angle do an ironman for a 3.2 rating. It was down from the 3.5 the previous week, but ran against new Survivor and stuff, so it wasn't big disaster or anything. More people tuned in for the finish than watched for the whole hour, naturally. #2 - Goldberg and the Dudleys won titles at Unforgiven. Putting the title on Goldberg could maybe serve as an indication to fans that he's a regular and not an nWo type flash that's gone in a few months. #3 - Raven gets his head shaved. #4 - TNA has brought in Dutch Mantell to be a booker. He worked as an agent with TNA when they first started, but left to focus on booking the IWA group in Puerto Rico. His booking is being credited for turning IWA around from losing money for years to overtaking the WWC as the top promotion. IWA was surprised by Dutch leaving, but he's agreed to stay on with them as a part-time consultant. Russo and Disco will still be bookers with TNA, which makes one wonder why they would shake things up right after their one-cent PPV. Why not make booking changes beforehand so after the one-cent show you could reward new customers with well-planned, developing storylines, instead of... #5 - Roddy Piper returned to TNA and cemented his reputation as a blabbering idiot. It's truly something that upon his return to WWE he actually seemed to show some of the speaking skills that he was noted for, but blasted the company for scripting him too heavily. Among the many gems an unscripted Roddy Piper let loose were the reference to his artificial hip as proof that he's "as real as it gets", and then blaming the internet for his kids wondering if he did drugs, as if he'd never said a word about doing them. Not to be outdone, Vince Russo talked about how Piper had burned every bridge in wrestling and nobody else wanted him, painting TNA as the promotion where people with absolutely no other options go to die. WWE NEWS: - Triple H and the French guys were bandaged up on Raw, which is part of a reinforced effort to increase the consistency from show to show. Wrestlers have also been told to start selling storyline injuries at house shows. - The attendance for the MSG show was low for MSG, but the crowd was hot and was into everything, so the wrestler morale at the show was pretty good. - Eddie and Chavo have been booked against each other in some 3-way matches for house shows, suggesting that a split will be coming shortly. Some wrestlers are annoyed that Chavo would get a good spot feuding with Eddie, and have even said they doubt Chavo would have a job if he wasn't a Guerrero. Although previous house show bookings also indicated a Matt Hardy face turn, among other things that haven't happened, so who knows. - There was apparently a rumor flying around that Paul Heyman reached out to TNA about work, but it's not true. He has at least two years left on his WWE contract and, even if they had no more use for him, people doubt Vince would release him just to keep other groups from getting him. - There's also a rumor among midcarders that Stephanie has decided to stop the ongoing storyline on Heat where Stevie Richards claims to be the GM of the show. This was pretty much agreed on because a key part of the angle was Coach and especially Al Snow selling it in the commentary and Al doing goofy skits with Stevie, but now that they're supposed to be hated heels and Bischoff stooges it just wouldn't work to have them play into it like they did. It's worth mentioning, though, that this story could have risen up on it's own just because Stevie wasn't on TV the last few weeks until he came back on the pre-PPV Heat. He'll be back in the saddle this weekend, which will be the first chance to see if Coach and Al make any mention of his angle. But the part of the rumor that's got midcard panties in a bunch is that somewhere it came out that Stephanie doesn't even watch Heat, which upset lower card guys who have dreams of being so impressive on the B-shows that they catch fire and get shot up to Raw or Smackdown. Most of the top executive type people don't go back and watch the B-shows as they're run on TV, but they do see things when they happen at the tapings. - Lance Storm wasn't at Raw or the PPV because of the leg injury he suffered. Mark Henry ran him into the turnbuckles and his hip popped or something, causing it to go numb. He worried that he'd broken his pelvis, but he seems to be okay. There doesn't seem to be any heat on Mizark for what happened, it was just one of those things. TNA NEWZ: - Hogan said on his pal Bubba's radio show that he's talked with TNA. As always, Hulk is probably lying, but it does seem that he may actually be close on the financial terms of coming in at least once. Some speculate that this may be part of the reason why Dutch Mantell is being brought in. Dutch will be above Russo and Disco in the booking structure, and that way Hogan wouldn't have to work with Russo, who he hates. Although talks with Dutch apparently started well before anything with Hogan got going. - Raven's backstage reaction to James Mitchell last week didn't endear him to the wrestlers any, as most felt that he crossed the line with what he did. One wrestler said there's no doubt that Mitchell screwed up with the clippers, but there's no excuse for Raven's continued unprofessional behavior. "He's a condescending asshole who is just bitter about being dropped by WWE. He has a real chance to help the younger guys. He does try to help them, but people don't take his advice to heart because his demeanor is so bad and so negative." Another wrestler said Raven has "become our version of DDP or Kevin Nash," two people Raven has spoken out about. - Roddy Piper hung around in the main locker room a little longer than he did last time. People described him as "quiet" and "strange", but said he was a little more accessible than he was before. - There's talk that the X division won't be featured as strongly if Dutch Mantell has his way. Some people say Dutch has said TNA needs to add some bigger wrestlers. - Dutch's rep for dealing with talent is that he doesn't take crap from young guys with egos. "He hates young guys who complain and won't be afraid to put them in their place," said somebody. Among the people he may get to put in their place is America's Most Wanted, who have a big rep for "boo boo facing" when they're told that they're doing a job. Wrestlers say that AMW's demeanor totally changed last week when they were told they wouldn't be winning the 3-way match, and that when they get told about doing a job, their concern changes from laying out the best possible match to making sure that all their big spots get in. Although when they did the job to Simon and Swinger, there were no reports of them getting upset about it. MLW NEWS: - There's a lot. Barry Windham showed up for their last show, as did Justin Credible who's going back to "PJ Walker". Sabu took Jerry Lawler's place in the War Games match after contacting MLW himself about it. They had reached out to Jeff Hardy, Scott Hall, and the LOD, but couldn't come to terms with any of them. CLASSIC TORCH: - Shawn Michaels was stripped of the I/C title and Razor Ramon won the vacated belt. The details of Shawn's leaving still weren't known, but rumors were flying that he'd decided to jump to WCW. The story came out the next week that Shawn and Vince had agreed for Shawn to take some time off due to burnout, but even today the entire story isn't completely known. Stories range from Shawn failing a drug test, to Shawn not wanting to job, to Shawn's own claim that he was suspended for allegedly testing positive for steroids, which he thought was laughable and wrote off as a mind game from Vince. ON TOPIC WITH JASON POWELL: Hey what's the deal with WWE production. When's the last time they did something cool like the TitanTron. THIS WEEK WITH WADE KELLER: He explains his 5-star rating of Brock/Angle. He really liked it. He probably wrote this with a boner. THE MCNEILL FACTOR: Back to the bar for a WWE PPV. This time there were NFL fans watching the game, but it was turned to the PPV, and they were like "HEY". WADE'S PPV STAR RATINGS (for NWA TNA): James/Truth vs. AMW vs. Sin/Slash - * D-Lo/Siaki - ½* Sabin/Nosawa/Shane vs. Young/Kazarian/Juvi - *1/2 Simon/Swinger vs. Shark Boy/Mad Mikey - * Styles/Lynn - *** Douglas/Raven - **½ James: 3.0. Jason: 6.0. Bruce: 6.0. Pat: 5.0. Wade: 4.0. WADE'S PPV STAR RATINGS (for WWE Unforgiven): Dudleys vs. La Resistance & Rob Conway - *1/4 Test/Steiner - ½* HBK/Orton - ***1/4 Trish/Lita vs. Molly/Gail - *1/2 Kane/Shane - **½ Christian/Jericho/RVD - *** Snow/Coach vs. JR/King - 1/4* Goldberg/HHH - **½ JG: 2.0. PM: 5.5. JP: 5.5. BM: 2.5. WK: 4.5. END NOTES WITH WADE: Random thoughts! The Rundown should be good. The TNA booking change should be fun to watch. Is it any wonder why WWE scripted Roddy Piper. Hopefully a few weeks off will freshen up Jerry Lawler some. BYE
