King Kamala 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2003 Today Veteran Stadium, famous for it's notorious fans (They booed Santa for pete's sake) and Qualcomm Stadium, famous....for ummm... nothing both closed. Qualcomm was built in 1969 for Triple A baseball and Veteran Stadium was part of the "new breed" of ball parks in the early 70s built in 1971 (Ironically all those parks are dead or are dying). Veteran Stadium 1971-2003 Qualcomm Stadium 1969-2003 *bong* RIP dilapitated ballparks

King Kamala 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2003 I found it especially charming when players blew out their knees on the turf of Veterans Stadium to the screaming delight of the fans in the 700 section. Classy, imitable and most important...elegant.
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted September 28, 2003 The Vet was a career-killer normally populated by boorish fans. There was nothing remotely charming about it.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted September 28, 2003 The Vet had a nice Quaint Charm about itself... Is that a nice way of saying "It was Fugly"?
Spaceman Spiff 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2003 Good-bye, old friend Can't wait to see a game in the new Phillies stadium, but a little piece of me will miss The Vet.
Guest Bobby Cox is God Report post Posted September 29, 2003 Hah, the Braves shut that hell hole down. And ladies and gentlemen, the Phillies are yet another team who tried to dethrone the Braves, just to be put back in their rightful place.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2003 There's next year yet. The Phillies are bringing most of their team back next year, save Millwood. The Braves have to worry about re-signing Javy, Sheffield, and Maddux.
Guest Bobby Cox is God Report post Posted September 29, 2003 Yes, but this year was no good. Plus, AOL is going to destruct our team, and this will probably be the end of the run. But I was just pointing out another fine job of managing by Bobby, and another great year of baseball for a franchise that has been nothing short of incredible for the last 12 years. Bring on the choking statements.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2003 Bring on the choking statements. Ok. The Red Sox will choke again The Cubs will choke again The Braves will choke again Barry Bonds will choke again The A's will lose in the first round again The Marlins will sell their entire team by next year. Did I forget anything?
Guest Bobby Cox is God Report post Posted September 29, 2003 Hah. A Phillies fan talking about choking. That makes about as much as a fat man driving a Geo.
EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted September 29, 2003 Its in jest. Besides, the Phillies already choked.

the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted September 30, 2003 Any time a stadium closing down gets people so worked up that Von Hayes gets a standing O, the place had charm. That stadium never had a chance, though. I will miss it, but I would love to see what it would be like today if they had kept it up at all.
treble 0 Report post Posted September 30, 2003 I say they should have just saved their money and refurbished it like they did with Busch Stadium in St. Louis (even though, I guess that place's days are numbered, too). They probably could have done something like they did with Cinergy, too, and taken out a bunch of outfield seats. Oh well, I'm sure the new place will be nice, although I wonder how a stadium like that will look right in the middle of a big parking lot.
