Guest Salacious Crumb Report post Posted October 7, 2003 I don't think that an objective person could come away from the show thinking he didn't know about football.
Ripper 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2003 What I don't get is why is it that when this subject comes up, do people pretend the ability of Donavan McNabb is relevant. NO ONE is taking Rush to task over his opinion on McNabb. He has a valid opinion about him being overrated. But when you have made racist comments in the past, are a precieved racist and then get on television and say that Donavan is getting a free ride because he is black, you EARNED every bit of backlash for making a stupid statement that can't realistically be argued. Not when there are black QB's putting up better numbers. Not when there are black QB's putting up decent numbers that don't get press. Not when there are white QBs that recieved the SAME hype when their team was presented with similar success's or in guys like Jake Plummers or Patrick Ramsey's case, without anything resembling that success. Where was the media coddling Shawn King when he was taking out the line-up. Where is all the Kordell love. What about all that love that Jeff Blake gets. I can't turn on the TV without Aaron Brooks getting a story. Seriously where is the basis for his claims. And I swear to god if someone trys to go back to 1988 for your example.... Every single fact about the game today goes directly against what he said. His opinon was not formed due to actually looking at the league and forming a opinon on the evidence. He said it because he is a racist and wanted to rise some controversy and knew bringing race into a point that had no basis would do so. With that said, he still shouldn't have been fired or resigned. If he had made that comment about left handed QB's or short QB's, no one would have batted a eye. He has the right to his opinon however ilinformed and ignorant it might be. He did, however, bring up a sensitive spot for the NFL that the league had finally excaped from. Rush has caught this flack because he is Rush. He has a racist past, is a racist man, made a racially contoversial comment. That will bring fire. The most racist articles I ever read on ESPN happened a year ago when Allen Iverson was arrested in the what is now known to be a crock of bullshit from a money hungry guy. Sean D...(I'm not even going to try and spell his name) wrote something about how "Why is it that rich black guys talk about keeping it real. If they really wanted to keep it real they would move back to the projects with the rest of thier people." and his constant use of "ebonics" throughout the article to mock Iverson. It was disgusting and that ended my ESPN.com reading. So trust me, racist comments aren't anything new to that site.
kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted October 7, 2003 As a young broadcaster in the 1970s, Limbaugh once told a black caller: "Take that bone out of your nose and call me back." A decade ago, after becoming nationally syndicated, he mused on the air: "Have you ever noticed how all composite pictures of wanted criminals resemble Jesse Jackson?" In 1992, on his now-defunct TV show, Limbaugh expressed his ire when Spike Lee urged that black schoolchildren get off from school to see his film Malcolm X: "Spike, if you're going to do that, let's complete the education experience. You should tell them that they should loot the theater, and then blow it up on their way out." In a similar vein, here is Limbaugh's mocking take on the NAACP, a group with a ninety-year commitment to nonviolence: "The NAACP should have riot rehearsal. They should get a liquor store and practice robberies." When Carol Moseley-Braun (D-IL) was in the U.S. Senate, the first black woman ever elected to that body, Limbaugh would play the "Movin' On Up" theme song from TV's "Jeffersons" when he mentioned her. Limbaugh sometimes still uses mock dialect -- substituting "ax" for "ask"-- when discussing black leaders. Well, then I guess I'm a racist because I find most of that funny. The "riot" jokes were probably done during the time of the LA Riots, and what's so bad about using the "Jeffersons" when doing a Moseley-Braun update and doing the "ax/ask" dialect? I'd comment on how it seems OK to do a redneck dialect, which I love hearing by the way, but I'll take a pass on it...
