MrRant 0 Report post Posted October 14, 2003 My favorite is The Valley of Fear. Also I always enjoyed the stories written from Sherlock's perspective a little more than ones written from they eyes of Watson.

But there are only two short stories written from Holmes' POV in the canon (not count The Gloria-Scott and The Musgrave Ritual which were related to Watson by Holmes) neither is very good. The rest are written by Dr. John H. Watson MD. One needs Watson, there is no magic without him.
Firestarter 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2003 By the way, do you have a favorite Sherlock Holmes story? (Oh and why do you have "Cancer" in your handle? I thought it was an X-Files reference, but I wasn't sure.) Probably Hound of the Baskervilles for the character studies and the atmosphere, and Dancing Men for the ending and the explanation. "Cancer Marney" is an X-Files reference, yes.

I enjoyed that one a bit better than Watson's personally. You didn't. Oh well.
Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Report post Posted October 15, 2003 Why don't you like Watson, though? I mean I dislike the buffoonish Watson of the Rathbone films as much as anyone, but Conan Doyle's Watson was a fantastic character. One of the best built I've ever read. MrRant 0 Report post Posted October 15, 2003 I like Watson immensly. I just found the Sherlock perspective more interesting is all. I would think some of the other stories could have a interesting twist through Sherlock's perspective instead of Watson as well.
Guest TheZsaszHorsemen Report post Posted October 15, 2003 The only problem I have with that is that if Conan Doyle had done a story through Holmes' eyes that fit in with what Holmes had stated before he wanted it would've been the most egotistical, boring, lecture on analysis you'd ever read. MrRant 0 Report post Posted October 16, 2003 Last time I stayed in Leavenworth, WA I stayed in this room at the Innsbrucker Inn that is based semi-designed on what the Baker Street rooms of Holmes would look. At least I thought it was pretty cool while I was there. http://www.innsbruckerinn.com/Sherlock_HolmesN.htm
