Playmakers Analoges

Recommended Posts

Anyone got any theories/ideas as to who the real life pro-football players that the writers are using as analoges for the characters on the ESPN show Playmakers? The only two I can thing of are Eric Olczyk (the token white guy)= Zack Thomas and D.H. Harris= Ray Lewis.

Any other ideas or theories?

All the "characters" on Playmakers are ridiculous caricatures and stereotypes. Searching for a real-NFL comparison to someone on the show is giving that insulting, insipid piece of hubristic shit far more credit than it deserves.

For some reason, Leon Taylor (the aging backup RB) reminds me of Warren Moon. And that was even before the wife-beating storyline.

McConnell (the cocky QB) seems like Jake Plummer.

D.H. seems more like Randy Moss than Ray Lewis. No one has ever said Lewis is a bad guy (well, aside from that whole suspected murder thing); he's just real intense.

The coach is probably every lame-duck coach in the League rolled into one, and the owner is supposed to be a non-countrified Jerry Jones.

I actually have been getting into the show recently. I know it's over-the-top, but I've stopped trying to compare it to the real NFL and just look at it as a drama series. And on those standards, it's not too bad.

That would be bullshit. Moss isn't a saint, but D.H. is a crackhead and complete asshole. Moss has done stupid shit, but he's not the same player he was a few years back and he's matured and became a leader for the Vikings.

My point is that Ray Lewis hasn't been in trouble aside from the fact that he was at the scene of a murder (which is far different than committing a murder). Randy Moss, like D.H., came into the league with a bad reputation (fighting, drugs) and has been in trouble since he's been in the NFL. Moss might be more mature now, but he was unquestionably a problem child for a while, just like D.H. is a problem child now.

McConnell reminds me of Rob Johnson- holding the ball too long, criticized by the offensive coordinator, a womanizer, pretty boy blonde, even wears 11 like Johnson did (save in Washington).

However, I really think that all of these characters have bits and pieces of a bunch of players within them. Taylor has some Emmitt Smith, DH has some Ray Lewis and Randy Moss, the big lineman has some Nate Newton, etc.

Ozylack is clearly Zach Taylor though mixed with some Romoowski but Ozylack has feelings unlike Romo..

I wonder who Guerwicz (the gay WR) is supposed to be? At first I had him pegged as a Wayne Chrebet, but since there has to be at least a few gay NFL players that ESPN personnel knows about, it mght be one of them.

He seems to be part Kyle Brady (ultra-religious white player).

What a shock the ultra-religious probably republican is the gay character. It's such a pc and predictable pick for this show.

Given how insanely bad the premier was, I can't give the writers enough credit to be able to create characters that are subtle copies of real players.

No way they could be THAT subtle.

If they were trying to do that, you'd have QB "Brett Favor" or something like that.
