EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2003 New AP report out on the accident.... MANAGUA, Nicaragua (AP) -- Philadelphia Phillies pitcher Vincente Padilla was involved in a car accident in which his driver was killed during a trip to the player's hometown. Padilla said X-rays revealed that he suffered only minor injuries in the crash Thursday night. The director of Hospital Espana in Chinandega, where Padilla was treated, originally said that the 26-year-old right-hander broke his collar bone and a finger on his pitching hand. The driver, Abrahan Flores, apparently fell asleep at the wheel and the car careened off the highway and rolled, police said. The two were making the 70-mile trip from the capital of Managua to Chinandega, police added. ``It was a terrible thing,'' Padilla said. ``I had never seen someone die by my side before.'' Padilla was treated at the hospital and released the same night, hospital director Alejandro Paguaga said. Padilla had just returned to Nicaragua from Miami on Thursday. Padilla's agent, Rudy Valenzuela, said the pitcher was wearing his seat belt when the crash occurred. ``There's nothing broken,'' Valenzuela said. ``There's nothing wrong with his finger unless he's keeping something from us. Vicente's not like that. Then again, this is very traumatic for him. He lost his best friend.'' Padilla was 14-12 this season with a 3.62 ERA for the Phillies, who finished third in the NL East. Guest meanmaisch Report post Posted October 11, 2003 Something tells me this is going to screw him up mentally. Vincente has never seemed to be stable as it is, but this might really throw him for a loop. I hope that his mental anguish heals faster than his physical pains. kkktookmybabyaway 0 Report post Posted October 11, 2003 Well, he wasn't sh*t faced and driving 100+ mph so it's nice to know he won't be physically hurt from this incident and will be able to continue his career...
