JHawk 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2003 SmackDown from JHawk's Beak (10/16/2003) I'm gonna have to save a line for another week. Which isn't a bad thing, actually.
AndrewTS 0 Report post Posted October 17, 2003 Having not watched the show, just going to read the recrap--er, recap. Sorry--such a fine line between WWE and feces these days. Who the hell is being made fun of here? I dunno--usually when you do a midget bit you have the midget dress as your opponent. *shrug* Decent enough idea, pisspoor execution. I disagree. The last thing this angle needed was a midget. A decent enough opening match with what is actually a surprising finish, as Benoit not only wins, but he also disproves the theory that the illegal switch among lookalike tag team partners always works. Plus, neither Benoit nor A-Train actually gained a clearcut advantage, meaning that there may be some doubt as to who wins the match on Sunday. Nothing wrong with this segment. I fail to see the point of the whole feud. Hasn't Benoit beaten A-Train about 4 times in the past six months? So if Train wins, doesn't really hurt Benoit. Yet at the same time--so what? Benoit is a directionless midcarder. If Benoit wins, so what? He only beat Train again. Kudos for having the patience and/or resistance to fall asleep to recap the Stephanie interview. At the same time, I think it was wasted effort since probably no one reading your recaps give a shit. No offense. Another case of a good idea in theory being executed poorly. Let's sell the implications that after No Mercy, one of the McMahons is out of the business. Fine. But nobody actually buys into it. Remember Fully Loaded 1999 when Vince McMahon agreed to leave forever? He was not only back within two months, but he won the WWF Title in his return. Remember Survivor Series 2001? Or the March 25, 2002 episode of Raw? Steph was "banned for life" after both of those shows, and she never lasted more than four months on the sidelines. Forget Steph's bad acting. This is just poor planning, made by the hope that we're too stupid to remember back a mere two years. General consensus among those I talked to on the board? 3 months Steph returns as a heel. Remember when Noble and Tajiri were sharing Nidia? The writing team doesn't. I wish they did. That was actually funny. Two good workers with characters--what's not to love? Plus Nidia sucks in the ring but she rarely wrestles, doesn't cut promos often and when she does they're funny, and she fits the persona perfectly. Shame they've done nothing with Noble. I'm a bit disappointed I missed Noble/Tajiri and Rhyno/Eddy---but I've seen them before, longer and better, and I couldn't be bothered to avoid the other shit on the show. Looks to be a better show than I expected, but sadly the "new direction" of Smackdown has sucked the fun out of it for me. WWE...simple concept...good matches featuring good characters. VERY FUCKING SIMPLE!!
