Raw House Show 10/17

Recommended Posts

I just went to see WWE: Unleased at the Verizon Wireless Arena in Manchester, NH and it was a great time. The crowd wasn't all that big, but they were lively and into most of the matches.

-Rob Van Dam vs Scott Steiner

This was a pretty okay match. RVD was mad over and Scott Steiner was the first wrestler out and the crowd gave him proper heel heat (he made some sexual comments about the Hooters girls in the front row). RVD won with a VanDaminator, which was awesome to see live. All you RVD haters should stop and realize that he's one talented guy regardless of how WWE uses him.

-Val Venis vs Stevie Richards

My friend, Chris, says this was the match of the night. Lots of back and forth action (and Victoria was freaking hot). Venis was extremely over and the crowd was polite to Richards as well. He managed to get some heat. Venis kicked out of a Stevie-kick (which was AWESOME) and managed to win with a reverse knee-lock. Great match!

-Lita and Ivory vs Gail Kim and Molly Holly

Lita is GORGEOUS in person! She looks great in shorts and she is just so lovely all around. Molly and Gail looked great too and Ivory's happiness was charming. The four women put on a fine match, with Ivory playing the face in peril. Lita cleaned house and ended up pinning Molly. This was a fun match.

-Mark Henry vs Tommy Dreamer

Theodore Long was fucking hilarious! He picked a fight with The Fink and Fink really tried to kick his ass. Mark Henry was huge, but sucked all at once. Tommy Dreamer got a nice ovation and he fucking ruled. We gave him some very nice pops once everyone else shut up.

And the match? Mark Henry sucked. Tommy Dreamer ruled. The End.

Oh, and Dreamer lost

-The Dudleyz vs Rob Conway and Renee Dupree

The Dudleyz got the best pops of the night (besides maybe Goldberg). The crowd was into every aspect of this match. We got to choose the tables stipulation, which turned into a good choice seeing as Rob Conway got powerbombed through one by Bubba-Ray. Say what you will about the Dudleyz being stale on TV, they are mad over with live crowds. We even got to see LSD come out and give some assistance. After the Dudleyz won, they brought a kid into the ring and Spike took a picture of the kid posing with D-Von and Bubba Ray. This was awesome all around.

-Intermission

I bought a RVD t-shirt. I'm wearing it now. I feel like I spent my hard earned money well :D Chris bought an Evolution shirt and it fucking rules as well.

-Lance Storm vs Rico

Rico got no heat at first, but he managed to build some up during the match. Some audience members chanted "boring" for Storm which resulted in me screaming "SHUT UP!" at the top of my lungs at them. Funny enough, but it worked :headbang: Storm won and got to give Jackie Gayda a big kiss in return. Chris wishes he was Lance Storm. There were also lots of comments about Gayda's "boobies." Chris loves boobies... especially Jackie Gayda's.

On a side note, we got to see Lance Storm drive out in his car after. He had to stop and he signed a few autographs from his driver's seat. One young girl proclaimed "Lance Storm, will you give me your autograph?!? I don't think you're boring!" It was really nice, he didn't have to but he did. I avoided my urge to rush his car.

-Kane vs Shane McMahon

This match was a fucking disgrace. I think it was about five minutes long and Shane won with a Van Terminator. That is all you need to know.

-Booker T and Goldberg vs Randy Orton and Triple H

The crowd was hot for this match. Lots of stalling, but that was okay because Goldberg destroyed everyone in the end. This was pretty good and Goldberg was very over. So was Triple H, which was sort of a surprise. Typical ending with Goldberg pinning Randy Orton after a series of spears. One jackhammer later and Orton was finished. Nice little main event.

After the match, Booker and Goldberg posed with audience members and signed autographs. I even saw Golberg hoist a kid up on his shoulder. Good times!

All in all, I felt like my money was well spent. It was a great time and the wrestlers were obviously having a ball. Tonight I forgot about the horrible-ness of the Raw show. If the WWE were to just air house shows in place of Raw, I bet the ratings would go up.

Me: "Anything else I should say?"

Chris: "I hope Vince loses to Stephanie. I like her boobies."

I think what makes a house show so good is the wrestlers can cater to the crowd and get more involved with them instead of worrying about a tv audience. Also, watching them on tv doesn't give you the same "feeling" as seeing them live.

seemd like a good show.

But Chris Benoit or Kurt Angle weren't there, how can this be?

The wrestlers weren't forced to play second fiddle to shitty comedy or have 3 minute matches?

Okay, there was still the boss' son wrestling, but other than that, looks like a good lineup.

I'd honestly rather get a house show than a TV show anyway, but the only arena near me is the Mellon Arena, and is usually considered big enough to warrant a TV show instead of a house show.

By the way--no Hurricane?

There should NEVER be an excuse for a house show not being entertaining. You aren't working to get anyone over really, that is saved mostly for TV shows.

This show sounded like it was entertaining so maybe they are figuring out how to right the ship?

The Hurricane, Christian, and Y2J were missed. I felt bad for one kid who was completely dressed up like the Hurricane (and a lot of people bought High-light Reel shirts).

Angle, Benoit, and Guerrero are great and all, but the Raw stars really shine away from the Monday night environment. Val Venis and Stevie Richards tore the fucking house down.

Benoit and Gurrero standing around having a conversation about toast > Raw house shows.

I can believe that as Val Venis and Test had a very good match at the house show I went to back in June (Test did his fake injury angle here, but still lost the match). I mind you the main event of HHH / Nash followed this...
