New He-Man Series...

Recommended Posts

I've been watching the first series of the new Masters of the Universe cartoons as of late, mainly due to the fact that, as a kid, I was a HUGE He-Man (even She-Ra) fan.

While personally I think the series is pretty decent, Prince Adam comes across WAY too 'teeny' and as though he is an incompetant little bitch until he becomes He-Man and somehow grows a gigantic set of nuts (his voice becomes considerably deeper) and becomes practically invincible (the way he should always be, IMO).

One other quirk I have with the series is that the bad guys, namely Skeletor, hasn't REALLY done anything to justify him being such a huge threat. I mean, have him bring Man-At-Arms to near death and ravage his daughter, Teela, for fucks sake, whatever you need to do to establish him as the head badass.

Otherwise, great series and the line of toys to follow it (or that it is based on, either way) look particularly appealing.

Thoughts? Opinions?

In a word, this show is: retarded. Sorry. It's the voice acting that gets to me, and the style of animation. That, and everytime Prince Adam talks all I can see is Leonardo from the original Ninja Turtles cartoon...

I have seen it. I would have to agree with UYI about Skeletor. He hasn't done anything memorable to really make him seem like a bad ass threat. Every episode that I have seen with Skeletor has been forgettable and his threat was dispatched without seemingly much problem.

By contrast, episodes featuring other villains, such as these giant guys, the evil snake creatures, and the fake Mossman, they were built up as a threat. He-Man needed Mossman's help to dispatch of the fake Mossman. The snake creature episode(I think), He-Man had to get help from someone else to defeat them. He even had massive trouble putting away the giants as they practically destroyed a town and got the crystal they wanted before the Masters of the Universe regrouped and defeated them. Skeletor just comes off as useless.

Also, I did not like last season's season finale, where basically all the villains from the year teamed up and kicked the crap of He-Man and the Masters, as only Adam was left with the villains descending on him to build to the season premiere. It just came off as they were prematurely blowing their load to me. Plus, there's the chance that once He-Mann inevitably triumphs, that's going to hurt all the villains in the process. How can I take a villain seriously if the combined 4 or 5 of them can't beat He-Man?

Nevertheless, it is still better than the atrocity that was the new Inspector Gadget. The plot of the episode I saw was that Dr. Claw changed into an evil detective who got Inspector Gadget fired, and he was trying to crush Gadget's talking police car. In the end, the talking car(with help from two older talking cars from the 70s) saved the day. It was terrible.

I think the show's pretty decent. A vast improvement, in just about every way possible, over the original.

That was Evilseed, who convinced Orko he was Mossman. The actual Mossman character was pretty awesome, however possibly a little TOO awesome. Much like the guy (I wish I could remember his name) who aided He-Man & Man-At-Arms in the Kobra episode, where Kobra tricks Skeletor (very easily, mind you) into thinking he is going to resurrect the race of Snake Men to do Skeletor's bidding. Anyways, the guy who helped them out walked into Skeletors castle and single handedly kicked the living shit out of everything inside, including Skeletor, which not only made He-Man look as though he wasnt good enough to do the same, but made Skeletor to look like a total fucking bitch.

The series also suffers from character overkill, the success of the original was based on the fact viewers could make relationships with the few characters presented in each episode, who were often just He-Man/Prince Adam, Man-At-Arms and either Teela or Orko. Now we have the whole fucking Eternian army in there at some times and it is just overcrowded.

However, in the new series, I believe He-Man gets a make-over and launches an attack on the Snake Men, who've actually been made out to be seriously sinister. So hopefully something good will come of it.

Ever heard Stratos talk? Dead ringer for Sean Connery, in fact if that ISN'T Sean Connery then I'd be surprised.

I never actually watched the series, but I heard it has explained the sword powers, etc.

Anyone care to relay that to me?
