Smartmarks Fake Baseball League

Recommended Posts

Hey Flik, what team are ya on? *figures he can carry that team as well...[cough]*

Um... My sig has my team in it. It's like in the big letters. You know, chanting Go! <team name>! GO!

Besides, I'd like anyone else on my team. I hate being by myself on a team.

Now this makes absolutely no sense at all. Everyone at 28-29 is dropping off BESIDES me.

And Henderson is only getting better. However, I want to know why I'm doing so great. Did I suddenly give up on the speed or something? Or what's going on?

Gonzales has demanded that he be allowed to use the little cart that brings bullpen pitchers to the mound in the actual game. Or he wants gorilla legs transplanted to his body.

He'll be dead soon, and uh, then I'll put in Tiny Gonzales for a wacky change.

Awards/SFBL Players In The News:

James wins Player of the Week

Edward James wins his 7th Player of the Week award. East-West pitchers couldn't figure out how to retire this guy all week long. Edward was on fire, hitting .360 with 7 HR and 11 RBI. Edward managed to drive in at least one run in every game he played this week. He now has homered in 7 consecutive games as well! While compiling an on base percentage of .373, Edward hit .308 and slugged .636. He has collected 110 runs batted in this year. He's 1st in the East-West in RBIs and 1st in homeruns!

Logan Caldwell out for 9 weeks

DETROIT - Detroit's third baseman Logan Caldwell will miss about 9 weeks after he hurt himself badly in the 6th inning of the game between Detroit and New Jersey. He fielded a ball off the bat of Trent Morphy, threw a bullet to first and immediately signaled that he was not OK. The diagnosis from doctors was a pulled tricep muscle, after X-rays were taken in a nearby hopsital. The message shocked teammates and team officials. Caldwell has hit 27 longballs this year while batting .251. He adds 24 doubles, along with 83 runs scored.

2) Peter Kostka (5-4 (6 SV), 2.52 ERA, 2.30 ERC)

Notes: Edward James' August is the highlight of this month, as he's looking for a great year to wrap things up in 2014, though the Jokers will have to fight back hard if they even want the Wildcard in the East-West. Jenkins is still looking good, and LeBeau is trying to turn it all around, but he's going to be having trouble with that. Caldwell's season seems to be over as well with his injury, but we'll see if Logan can't bounce back in some miraculous way.

With September simmed and three games remaining, a quick congratulations is in order for Edward James!

He has passed the former record of 50 homeruns in a single season by a TSM player, breaking Carlos DeSantis' record in what was truly a breakthrough season for the Joker.

Also, it appears that with three games left, Robert Henderson will remain above the .400 plateau, becoming the first person in SFBL history (TSM or otherwise) to set the mark!

The September recap is on the way later tonight.

I own the home run record? Awesome! Hopefully all that firepower actually makes it to the playoffs.

And I've got to admit that the parallels between me and Bonds are similar... Just saying.

Congrats to Robert Henderson on making .400 for the full season as that's a hell of an accomplishment. Big congrats. Not an easy stat to come by.

And Sly, hopefully you are ready for the big leagues boy. As we are going to draft you into the 2015. We'll see how you fair against the rest of the gang.

The record chasing is put aside for Edward James, Rolf Dreikugeln, Marvin Jenkins, R.J. Frost, and David Hunter. Because these five have playoff spots hanging in the balance.

I'll keep track of these final three games (with the important games only, of course--this includes Big Red's chase for .400...is it possible he'll fall short?), and by the end of tonight, we'll know our playoff teams.

The Big Games

Monday, October 1st

Seattle Frasiers vs. Oklahoma Twisters

-- If Seattle wins this game, they clinch the West Division.

Boston Tea Baggers vs. New York Bums

-- If New York wins, then they clinch the East, otherwise Boston pulls within one game.

Las Vegas Jokers vs. Denver Douchebags

-- If Las Vegas wins, Denver is eliminated from playoff competition. Boston can also be eliminated from playoff competition with a loss against the New York Bums.

New Jersey Clerks vs. Vancouver Vasectomy

-- Robert Henderson tries to remain above .400 so that he can become the first SFBL player in history to reach that mark.

Marvin Jenkins is a knuckleballer, so he can probably pitch til he's 40 at least. And he dropped off a little from 2 years prior but hes still 18-7 with a 3.25 ERA. Its pretty hard to replicate or come close to a 23 win season.

and damnit if he doesn't make the playoffs.

OKLAHOMA 7, SEATTLE 6 (11 INNINGS)

In one of the more exciting games that The Vortex has seen, this 4 hour and 44 minute game was most excellent. After rallying for one more run in the bottom of the 9th to force extra innings, the Twisters were burned in the top of the 11th by a leadoff homerun from R.J. Frost. In the bottom of the 11th, however, Jim Caher cracked under the pressure and surrendered two runs to Oklahoma as Oklahoma came up with a huge victory to keep Seattle from clinching the West and forcing them to hope that the Jokers lose if they want a shot at clinching the west by the end of Monday night.

BOSTON 13, NEW YORK 1

0wned.

Marvin Jenkins was on the mound for the Bums, but was yanked in the 6th inning after getting burned for six runs total in his 5 1/3 inning performance. 3 more runs would cross the plate in the 6th, and three more in the 7th, all credited to Juan Martinez, who came on in relief of Jenkins. When the dust cleared, Boston remained in contention for the West, within one game of the Bums.

DENVER 9, LAS VEGAS 3

Denver is staying alive in the playoffs with a big victory over the Jokers. Eddy J brought in his 150th RBI of the season (giving him the TSM record in that category as well), but it was not enough to keep the Jokers from coming up short.

So, after Monday, here are your important standings.

EAST

Team W L GB

New York 93 67 --

Boston 92 68 1

WEST

Team W L GB

Seattle 96 64 -- (clinched)

Las Vegas 93 67 3

EAST-WEST WILDCARD

Team W L GB

Las Vegas 93 67 --

Boston 92 68 1

Denver 91 69 2

TUESDAY

Los Angeles Glory Holes at Boston Tea Baggers

-- A Boston victory will pull them within a half-game of both the Las Vegas Jokers in the wildcard and the New York Bums in the East Division.

Denver Douchebags at New York Bums

-- A New York loss will put them in a tie with the Boston Tea Baggers in the East Division and will also pull Denver to one and a half game behind the Las Vegas Jokers in the wildcard. A New York win and a Boston loss will clinch the East for New York.

Chicago Transit Authority at Las Vegas Jokers

-- A Las Vegas victory would be enough to force a tie in the wildcard race, eliminate Denver from playoff contention, and will clinch the East-West wildcard race if Boston comes up short against the Glory Holes.

Memphis Eels at Vancouver Vasectomy

-- Henderson once again continues his trek for .400, sitting at .404 after Monday's game.

LOS ANGELES 4, BOSTON 2

Two homeruns in the 7th inning put two runs on the board for the Glory Holes and are enough to knock off the Tea Baggers.

DENVER 8, NEW YORK 5

0wned again.

Denver has the possibility to pull within one game of the Jokers with a victory over the Bums. The Bums have also failed to clinch the East. Again.

CHICAGO 9, LAS VEGAS 3

And things just got a lot more interesting.

Chicago destroys the Jokers, as Eddy J goes 1-for-4 with a run scored.

EAST

Team W L GB

New York 93 68 --

Boston 92 69 1

WILDCARD

Team W L GB

Las Vegas 93 68 --

Boston 92 69 1

Denver 92 69 1

Yes, a three-way tie is possible.

New York Bums at Denver Douchebags

Scenarios

New York wins: New York clinches the East, Denver is out of playoff contention

Denver wins: Boston pulls to within a half-game of New York, Denver pulls

within a half-game of Las Vegas.

Las Vegas Jokers at Chicago Transit Authority

Scenarios

Las Vegas wins: Las Vegas finally clinches the wildcard.

Chicago wins: Las Vegas can end up in a tie with Denver and/or Boston, or they could clinch the wildcard if Denver and Boston both lose.

Boston Tea Baggers at Philadelphia Freedom

Scenarios

Boston wins: Boston ties New York with a Bums loss, Boston ties Las Vegas with a Jokers loss, a win from either New York or Las Vegas eliminates Boston from either scenario.

Philadelphia wins: Boston is out of the race in the East and in the Wildcard. Simple as that.

NEW YORK 6, DENVER 3

Marvin Jenkins redeems himself for his performance on Monday, winning his 19th game of the season and clinching the East for the Bums while Denver is eliminated from the playoffs.

LAS VEGAS 2, CHICAGO 3

Eddy J goes 1-for-4 as the Jokers come up woefully short again, giving Boston the chance to tie.

BOSTON 5, PHILADELPHIA 2

And Boston does so, tying the Jokers for the Wildcard on the last day of the regular season as Rolf closes out the game for the Tea Baggers.

In other news:

Robert Henderson finishes the season with a batting average of .405.

One-game playoff time.

BOSTON TEA BAGGERS AT LAS VEGAS JOKERS

After winning the coin toss late Friday night, Boston and Las Vegas were in the air, both heading to Trump Coliseum, the site of the one-game playoff that would determine whether the Tea Baggers or the Jokers would go into the playoffs as the East-West Wildcard Champions.

Jose Paniagua took the mound for Las Vegas--his 16-4 record was a good stat to be looking at going into the game against Boston's Aldo Zendejas, sitting at 11-12.

In the bottom of the 1st, the Jokers wasted no time getting the Las Vegas crowd on their feet and beliving in the Jokers.

With Jose Etenza on first base, Edward James came to the plate, wanting to establish that the Jokers had came to play ball against Boston.

The ball was gone as soon as it left Eddy J's bat. 481 feet later, James had given Las Vegas an early 2-0 lead, and the Las Vegas fans knew that after a disappointing home stretch, there was a light at the end of the tunnel. (NOTE: The 481-foot shot from Edward James was the third longest homerun of his career, behind two other shots of 482 feet and 512 feet.)

Boston threatened in the top of the second inning, with runners on second and third with no outs. However, after a flyout and a strikeout, Wylie Bernakiewicz was hit by a Paniagua pitch, loading the bases with two outs in the top of the 2nd. Thomas Lipps could not convert, as the 36-year-old Tea Bagger grounded out to the second baseman to end the inning.

Las Vegas loaded the bases in the bottom of the 3rd, but Jose Etenza, Edward James and Ken Coutu all went down striking out swinging, as Zendejas got the Baggers out of a HUGE jam.

Boston finally responded in the top of the fourth inning, scoring one run as Wylie Bernakiewicz burned Paniagua for pegging him in the 2nd inning, singling to shallow right-center and scoring Josmir Figuerres from second.

Las Vegas extended their lead back to two runs in the bottom of the 6th, as Ken Coutu flied out to right field, sacrificing Jose Etenza home to make the score 3-1 Vegas with six innings gone.

After the seventh inning stretch, the Jokers' fans really got into it, King Caffee hitting the mound as a replacement for Aldo Zendejas. After picking up two quick outs, Geoff Jackson singled to center, and Tuan Marcus followed it up with a single of his own, putting runners on the corners with two outs. Carlos Napoles stepped up to the plate, and on a 2-2 pitch, laced a shot down the right field line. The ball seemed like it would go foul, and King Caffee watched the ball, yelling at it to go foul...but the ball wrapped around the foul pole and landed in the stands three hundred and sixty-six feet away, as the umpire signaled that it was a homerun! The Las Vegas crowd exploded like they had just hit the jackpot on the nickel slots, Napoles rounding first and pumping his fist as Las Vegas took a commanding 6-1 lead over the Tea Baggers.

After striking George Fernandez out in the bottom of the 8th, King Caffee was greeted with the Jokers' fans best rendition of the Steam hit "Na Na Hey Hey Kiss Him Goodbye," as the fans seemed ready to hit the streets in celebration of a Jokers' playoff berth!

Claudio Marquez remained on the mound in the top of the 9th for the Jokers, and quickly got Thomas Lipps to strike out swinging. Frank Vierra angrily slapped a solo homerun down the left field line, landing 420 feet later to make the score 6-2, but the Las Vegas fans would not be discouraged. Marquez walked Robert Gennari, but 43,000 Las Vegas fans standing strong in Trump Coliseum forced Raimundo Robledo to ground a sharp ball to third base. Edward James was all over it, however, gobbling it up and rifling the ball to Geoff Jackson for one...and firing it to George Fernandez for TWO!

NEW YORK 6, DENVER 3

Marvin Jenkins redeems himself for his performance on Monday, winning his 19th game of the season and clinching the East for the Bums while Denver is eliminated from the playoffs.

So he pitched on a days rest? Hes a knuckleballer, he can do it.

Actually, Jenkins played on Monday and Friday of that week.

The October schedule was something like this:

Monday's Games

Off Day

Wednesday's Games

Off Day

Friday's Games

One-Game Playoff (Boston/Vegas)

So it was four days rest for Marvin.

LAS VEGAS JOKERS VS BALTIMORE CRIME SPREE

2014 SFBL EAST-WEST PLAYOFFS

Las Vegas is looking for their first playoff series victory since 2006, and Baltimore is looking to win it all after doing so in their first two playoff appearances in 2007 and 2008.

GAME 1

Timothy Foster (LV) at Jerry Hooley (BAL)

As huge underdogs in this series, the Jokers sure didn't look the part, but karma seemed to be working against them.

After lacing a hit that would become a leadoff double in the top of the first inning, Tuan Marcus hobbled into second base standing up and had to leave the game after injuring himself running the bases. Marcus' replacement would score on the next batter, advancing on a passed ball and coming home on a sacrifice fly to right-center.

Baltimore would respond in the bottom of the third, bringing the score to 1-all as Dante Rodriguez singled to left, scoring Casimiro Arellano from second.

Hooley and Foster then settled down, leading to the 7th inning. In the bottom half of the inning, Foster was finally brought out for Edmund Deck, while Hooley remained in. Time finally winded around to the top of the 9th, and after getting two outs and hitting Jose Etenza, Hooley was finally yanked in favor of William Kuhns. With a runner on first and two outs, Ken Coutu singled to shallow left field. R.W. Domenico came on in place of Kuhns, and was able to stop the rally, getting Everette Orr to ground out to the first baseman to end the top half of the inning.

In the bottom of the 9th, Baltimore only needed two batters. Zoilo Castillo burned Edmund Deck to lead off the inning, doubling down the right field line. John Cosenza relieved Deck, but Wrankmore singled to left and Castillo rounded third, heading for home as the throw was nowhere close, allowing Baltimore to escape with a squeaking 2-1 victory in Game 1 of the best-of-7 series.

LAS VEGAS 1, BALTIMORE 2

Baltimore leads series 1-0

WP - R.W. Domenico (1-0)

LP - Edmund Deck (0-1)

Time of Game: 3 hours, 1 minute

Player of the Game: Jerry Hooley (8.2 IP, 4 HA, 1 ER, 1 BB, 3 Ks)

NEW YORK BUMS VS SEATTLE FRASIERS

2014 SFBL EAST-WEST PLAYOFFS

Seattle is aiming to return to the SFBL Championship, where they were narrowly defeated by the Memphis Eels in 2013. New York, on the other hand, is looking to have their second postseason visit be as successful as the first, when they swept Las Vegas en route to winning the Championship over Houston...in 2005.

GAME 1

Marvin Jenkins (NY) at George Alongi (SEA)

A 5-run 7th inning for the Frasiers was all it took to win Game 1 of the best-of-7 series with the New York Bums. Marvin Jenkins came unglued, allowing all 7 runs that crossed the plate as earned runs before finally being replaced, with the damage already done.

New York scored three in the top of the 8th, but could not overcome the remaining 2 runs in that deficit, falling victim to the Frasiers in Game 1 by a score of 7-5.

David Hunter went 0-for-5 with a strikeout, while R.J. Frost went 0-for-3 with a walk, a walk in which he would later score.

NEW YORK 5, SEATTLE 7

Seattle leads series 1-0

WP - Javier Arocha (1-0)

LP - Marvin Jenkins (0-1, 6 1/3 IP, 9 HA, 7 ER, 6 BB, 3 Ks)

S - Raul Carrera (1)

Time of Game: 3 hours, 23 minutes

Player of the Game: Glynn Kortkamp SEA (1-for-2, 2 runs scored, 4 RBI, 2 BB, hit grand slam in 7th inning)

CHARLOTTE HARLOTS VS COLUMBUS PRIDE

2014 SFBL NORTH-SOUTH PLAYOFFS

Charlotte is making their first appearance in the playoffs since 2003, when they were swept by the Tea Baggers in the Championship Round. Columbus is looking for that elusive winning series, having lost all three previous postseason series they were involved in in 2010, 2012, and 2013.

GAME 1

Adelardo Rocha (CHA) at Tipsy Gesner (COL)

To no one's surprise, Tipsy Gesner dominated the Charlotte Harlots throughout the first five innings of his outing in Game 1 of the best-of-7 series in the North-South playoffs.

The surprise came when Tipsy Gesner was injured.

Departing from the game after five innings and in position to pick up a win, Gesner complained about his elbow while pitching, leaving the game and being replaced by Lemarcus Cooper.

Fortunately, Charlotte was still unable to do anything against the Columbus bullpen, as they were shut down and left in the dark as Columbus had a mostly easy time in a 4-1 victory over the Harlots in Game 1.

Peter Kostka pitched for a 1/3 of an inning, getting Errick Mahar to strike out looking on four pitches before being replaced by Jose Lopez in the top of the 8th.

Joseph Corbin went 0-for-3 with a walk, striking out in all three official at-bats.

After the game, it was revealed that Tipsy had suffered a pulled elbow ligament, and would be out for about a week.

CHARLOTTE 1, COLUMBUS 4

Columbus leads series 1-0

WP - Tipsy Gesner (1-0, 5 IP, 4 HA, 1 ER, 0 BB, 6 Ks)

LP - Adelardo Rocha (0-1, 4.2 IP, 8 HA 2 ER, 1 BB, 3 Ks)

S - Jose Lopez (1)

Time of Game: 3 hours, 26 minutes

Player of the Game: David Tondus COL (4-for-5, R, RBI, K)

VANCOUVER VASECTOMY VS MEMPHIS EELS

2014 SFBL NORTH-SOUTH PLAYOFFS

Vancouver is looking for their first postseason series victory, while Memphis, as the defending SFBL champions, look to become the third team in SFBL history to repeat as Champions.

GAME 1

Cyrus Seemann (VAN) at Claudio Galaviz (MEM)

Well, the pitching advantage is one-sided, and it showed. ...Yep, 20+-game winner Claudio Galaviz just couldn't handle the Vasectomy.

...Wait, what?

In something out of Freaky Friday, Cyrus Seemann came to pitch a game, and pitched a whole one, finishing 9 innings later with only two hits allowed as Vancouver shocked the world, cruising to a 5-0 victory over the defending SFBL Champions in Game 1.

Mike Van Siclen went 3-for-4, scoring twice and driving in two runs on a homerun in the 5th inning off Galaviz, more than enough offense to take down Memphis' heavy-hitting offense, which couldn't get off the ground in their own park.

VANCOUVER 5, MEMPHIS 0

Vancouver leads series 1-0

WP - Cyrus Seemann (1-0, CG, 2 HA, 0 ER, 0 BB, 11 Ks)

LP - Claudio Galaviz (0-1, 6.1 IP, 8 HA, 3 ER, 1 BB, 6 Ks)

Time of Game: 3 hours, 4 minutes

Player of the Game: Cyrus Seemann (This was Seemann's first career appearance in the postseason)

LAS VEGAS JOKERS VS BALTIMORE CRIME SPREE

2014 SFBL EAST-WEST PLAYOFFS

Baltimore leads 1-0

GAME 2

Jose Paniagua (LV) at Trace Kessinger (BAL)

When the smoke cleared, Baltimore and Las Vegas had used up a good portion of their pitching staffs...and only one team came out on top.

With the score tied at 6-6 after 9 innings, it took 6 more innings to finally determine a winner. But in the 15th inning, it was Dante Rodriguez who was the hero as he came through with a single to centerfielder with the bases loaded and one out as pinch-runner Sandy Gerry came home for Baltimore, scoring the game-winning run as Baltimore once again picked up a squeaky clean 7-6 victory over the Jokers at home in 15 innings, extending their best-of-7 series lead to 2 games to Las Vegas' 0.

Las Vegas had a 6-5 lead after 7 innings, but Baltimore scored a run in the bottom of the 8th to start the long stalemate of a tie.

Edward James went 2-for-7 with one hit and one RBI along with one strikeout.

LAS VEGAS 6, BALTIMORE 7 (15 INNINGS)

Baltimore leads series 2-0

WP - Francisco Vives (1-0)

LP - Brad Gainer (0-1)

Time of Game: 6 hours

Player of the Game: Victor Dicks (3-for-5, 2 R, 2 RBI, BB, K)

NEW YORK BUMS VS SEATTLE FRASIERS

2014 SFBL EAST-WEST PLAYOFFS

Seattle leads series 1-0

GAME 2

Brad Hafner (NY) at Frank Elston (SEA)

New York tagged on three runs in the top of the 9th inning to pull away from Seattle, picking up a Game 2 victory to even the series at one game a piece.

Seattle had an early 3-2 lead after three innings, but that disappeared and turned into a 6-3 lead for New York by the end of the 6th inning. Seattle pulled within one to 6-4, but then the aforementioned 9th inning dashed the chances for the defending East-West Conference Champions.

David Hunter went 2-for-4, scoring once, while R.J. Frost went 0-for-2, walking once and sacrificing a run home as well as driving one in.

NEW YORK 9, SEATTLE 4

Series tied 1-1

WP - Brad Hafner (1-0, 5 2/3 IP, 6 HA, 2 ER, 1 BB, 1 K)

LP - Frank Elston (0-1, 5 2/3 IP, 7 HA, 6 ER, 4 BB, 4 Ks)

S - Francisco Espinoza (1)

Time of Game: 3 hours, 47 minutes

Player of the Game: Ricky Breckenridge NY (3-for-4, R, 3 RBI, BB)

CHARLOTTE HARLOTS VS COLUMBUS PRIDE

2014 SFBL NORTH-SOUTH PLAYOFFS

Columbus leads series 1-0

GAME 2

Damn.

For the first time in a long time, a new recruit is actually going to have to wait a season due to the three rookies per year rule.
