Is anyone else getting Tired of Mysterio

Recommended Posts

I am a fan of Rey Mysterio, but I do have to agree that his stuff in WWE is nothing compared to his work in WCW. You have to take into account his leg injury though, that could be keeping him from trying new moves or doing some of his past moves. I would love to see him try that springboard DDT-type move he did to Eddie Guerrero at Halloween Havoc '97.

I also think that even Eddie Guerrero has been getting limited in his moveset lately too thanks to the dreaded WWE style. I still like him, but in every match it's triple snap suplex, back suplex, tope con hilo (slingshot body splash on No Mercy), and the Frog Splash.

Ultimo Dragon is someone I WANT to like as a wrestler once again, but he's also limited by WWE to mainly kicks, the Asai Moonsault, and the Asai DDT, and you also have to take into account his past elbow injury which was botched by poor surgery which had him to retire for a few years. All are factors that are preventing him from doing his submission/high-flying work he used to do in WCW and Japan.

Its true, if you give pretty much any WWE wrestlers name you would be perfectly able to call nearly every move that will happen during any match they have on tv.

I think you have to take into consideration the fact that Hart dogged it when the cameras weren't on. Flair no matter when or how many people wrestled his ass off.

I think the X-Division can be as good as the WCW cruiser division if Juvy and Teddy Hart come in full time and if AJ and Daniels hang around the division.

Michael Shane's like the HHH of the X-Division though; he has an undeserved title reign because he can't wrestle and is basically a cancer to it because of his subpar wrestling ability. If it weren't for his cousin Shawn Michaels, Shane would be flipping burgers right now.

Rey's work now is better than his shitty devil-horns-filthy/animals era stuff.

I've got to agree with that, and sadly, it's that era that I now think of when I think of Rey-Rey's work in wcw ... I freaking HATED him (and the rest of the animals) during that era.

No one really entertains me these days. They think signing people like Jimmy Yang, Nova, whoever will make some kind of an impact. They expect that it will change things for the viewers. They won't. No one will. Hogan and Steve Austin were 14 years apart. It might be a while.

"he had an 18 month layoff from pro wrestling between the end of WCW and his WWE debut"

He wrestled in Mexico, and in some indies.

Not only do you have to factor in leg injuries but also, not many people can keep up with Rey when he goes full speed.

You aren't going to see Malenko/Rey counter to counter to counter type matches with the WWE roster.

The WWE HAS guys to make a decent cruiser divsion but they don't care cause they don't think they can build good storylines and "Americans don't like matches without storylines".

I still say the downfall of WCW wasn't the finger poke of doom, it was the end of the cruiserweight division.

Who ever said the 4 minute WWE style matches nailed it.

I'm just sick of WWE fucking up a sure thing. Rey/Kidman feud looked like it was going to take off and you know these two can go. So what does WWE do? They do the "classic" put them in a tag team so one partner can turn on the other to start the feud off.

Then what happen? Something WWE didn't see coming. Rey and Kidman got crazy over with the crowds. So their feud got put on hold. They got a few tag title matches with WGTT which the crowds ate up.

It seem like there was two sure options since they were so over. Put the titles on them or break them up. What did the WWE do? NOTHING....

yeah their gimic sucked, but i sure enjoyed the series of matches between mysterio/guererra. they even said it was so we would actually have something decent to watch on thunder.

Got this from the Torch VIP it's an old column by Mark Madden in '93 and this is what he said about Bret and Flair.

RADIO GAGA

Bad enough that Bret Hart, the lowestdrawing world champion in history—excepting some, but not all, of the pseudoworld champs discussed earlier—calls Ric Flair overrated, 3 on a 10 scale, or whatever. I think the response to that is obvious, but here goes anyway.

While Bret Hart has had a handful of brilliant matches on payperview, he waltzes through house show bouts and is, in general, a lazy S.O.B. unless the cameras are on. Add to that the fact that Ric Flair often has had fivestar matches—matches better than Bret Hart dreams of—in front of house show crowds shy of a thousand, and you get the reason for Hart’s vitriolic statements, namely jealously over having onehalf of Flair’s ability and onemillionth of his charisma. Bret may also be jealous of Flair who, at 45, looks like he could be 25 while Hart, at 35, looks like he could be dead.

Like I said, that was bad enough.

But Jim Ross had to have Hart repeat his drivel on “Radio WWF,” then “call Ric Flair in Jacksonville” to get his response, making Flair look like a schmos when the call went unanswered. Like anyone would be near a phone at a WCW house show, or anywhere near the show at all for that matter.

Ross, show some class. And if you’re going to let people rip Flair on your radio show, at least be honest enough to mention that when you were both in WCW, you had your tongue so far up Flair’s behind that you could taste what flavor gum he was chewing. I mean, the only time Flair missed shows due to injury was when he stopped suddenly and Ross’s fivehead—much bigger than a forehead, don’t you agree—smashed into his tailbone.

Honesty is the best policy, Jim. Give it a whirl sometime.

Mysterio's kind of in a weird spot. While he hasn't been actively buried as much as possible like some other cruisers *cough Ultimo cough*, they haven't really actively done anything with him either. Can anyone think of one actual storyline Rey's been in other than the whole "Smackdown 6" tag tournament thing, which was a year ago? And the whole feud/team with Kidman is in limbo so you can't really count that...

And all the spots in his matches are so contrived in WWE. Yeah, everyone has their signature moves, but its really difficult to suspend disbelief when Rey's opponent "just happens" to fall and lean between the ropes and STAY THERE for an inordinate amount of time, while Rey plays to crowd before finally doing the 619 (which used to be just a simple taunt or transition move, and now built up as a finisher). Its as contrived as how Rikishi's opponents would always "just happen" to fall in the corner to take a stinkface. I don't like it.
