Downhome 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2003 To further my post above let's look at some of the best feuds in wrestling: Bret/Owen: Younger brother is tired of living in the shadow and sets out to prove that he's better. Flair/Steamboat: Friendly competition that evolved into rivalry. The continuing question of who's the better man? Jericho/Malenko: One man thinks he's losing his touch and the other wants to dog him at every turn so that he gives into his fears of losing his touch and quits. I'm sure there are others, but those are just examples of amazing feuds based on such basic principles. Just about every great feud was based around the most basic of ideas. That's what's so good about the truly great feuds. We don't need some huge complex love triangle, sex with dead people, or fathers dying. There is a reason why shit is shit, and the greats are great. One doesn't have to look far to tell why certain feuds work, and others fail.
Guest robvandam420 Report post Posted October 26, 2003 the writers are interested in getting ratings. these long drawn out epic fueds just dont work anymore. its like your all stuck in the 80's. its about RATINGS. most casual viewers dont take it seriously enough to enjoy that kind of a fued. Yes but what the writers are writing and what you've come up with to write DOESN'T DRAW RATINGS. Get it through your thick ass skull. I'm sure that logic can travel through all the bullshit to your brain. Understand that what they're doing right now.....is not working.
Guest robvandam420 Report post Posted October 26, 2003 and i would probably fall asleep watching that classic stuff now. people got smart and know its fake. so you have to design the show with that in mind.

And what were some of your big ideas to draw in ratings? You need to take a look at the thread that shows who actually draws in the ratings for RAW and how well or poorly. Austin/McMahon last pretty damn long and it drew ratings. It was based on a pretty basic premise too. Corporate boss can't control the renegade fan favorite and sets out to stop him at all costs. Sure it got a little out of hand at points, but it never lost sight of it's basic premise.

LaParkaYourCar 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2003 How do we know that long feuds won't draw ratings nowdays? Who's even tried it lately? You can't tell if something will draw or not if you're not willing to try it!
Downhome 0 Report post Posted October 26, 2003 Epic, classic, heated feuds are what people want to see. The fans are not morons, and do not want to be insulted by having pure shit given to them on their TV screen. The PROBLEM with WWE is that they are trying too hard to come up with wild and wacky ideas for short terms feuds. That bullshit doesn't work, and history has proven that time and time again. Just about ALL great feuds, both past and present, have many things in commen, it doesn't take a moron to realize this.

Yet fucking a dead person is relateable? Yeah I remember when me and my friends would load up the truck on friday nights. A cooler full of beer, a couple of shovels, a box of condoms, and a couple of guys looking for a good time........

Like what? What ideas have we had that are boring and unrelatable? People relate with that which is most common and real. Necrophilia and people surviving flaming dumpsters is not relatable. Competition, hate, rivalry, jealousy, and greed are relatable and common. Take the basic ideas and build off them using the character traits of the people involved. The second lasted a week, due to Jeff getting fired.
