Guest Jay Z. Hollywood Report post Posted November 4, 2003 I thought it was Eric Garguilio or something who was Corino's broadcast partner... Eric Gargiulo was Corino's partner for the first two shows. Then it was Donnie B. The dynamic duo of crap started at Unscripted. No idea why Donnie B left. I'm going from recollection on this and it might be wrong, but I think the reason Gargiulo left is because he overheard Feinstein bashing CZW. Since Gargiulo was (and still is) CZW's PBP announcer and has loyalty to them first, things got heated and he quit.
Mecha Mummy 0 Report post Posted November 4, 2003 Ah. I would have known that but I only have the first two shows. I'm getting Night of Appreciation this week, though, so I was only like two days away from knowing my stuff.
Guest Rob Naylor Report post Posted November 4, 2003 I thought it was Eric Garguilio or something who was Corino's broadcast partner... Eric Gargiulo was Corino's partner for the first two shows. Talking to both Eric and people from ROH, I believe the friction was Eric allegedly taking ideas back to John and having CZW beat ROH to the punch on angles...ROH (which plans FAR ahead of most any other indy) running a 60 minute match -- then mysteriously CZW did one (high stakes *shudder*)..then the Briscoe's started feuding in ROH...Then CZW broke them up and had one take a lightube!!!...also, Briscoes and SAT's wanted to work more for ROH and Zandig at the time was very isolationist in letting "his guys" work other places, especially JAPW...so it was a powderkeg waiting to explode and Eric just pulled out of the ROH announce gig and I believe that RF and Eric had a falling out and I'm not sure if they've talked since. I know RF and Zandig patched things up for smart business reasons, but not sure how things shook down with Eric. I disagree strongly as I've always LOVED Gabe and Doug on commentary. Gabe is Watts-like in supplying details on what he wants to come across in his angles and I really think that his "inside references" aren't as bad as most make them out to be. I think Gabe and Doug do better than Corino and Donnie and Corino and Eric (who I also enjoy). The call of the 8/16 show was the best indy commentary I've ever heard. They used Jeff Gorman (the BEST indy commentator IMO), but he lives in Pittsburgh and has a regular job and they fell back on production, so had no other cause but to go in-house. Gabe's diction, delivery and ability to get over story's is strong, but he needs to stop hammering us over the head with the same lines (like Special K) every show and change up some of the dialogue. Plugging the tape company is NOT a problem at this point, as one or two plugs every couple matches is smart business and doesn't seem to come at pivitol points of the matches. People who critique ROH for pushing that "we have only the best" are missing the core tendency of every promotion of mankind. The AWA was "the major league of professional wrestling"...WWF was "The leader in Sports Entertainment" and the NWA had the "we wrestle" monicker. Even now, on indy tapes, IWA stresses that "they are where it is at" and always push there company as the best...to the point where I personally get sick...but I know that is what some get out of ROH, so I guess to each there own. But Ian pushed that Cide is "big on the east coast" and was "here to STEP up" against Hero....Like I said...it is done everywhere. I just glad that the ROH announcers don't scream and screech HOLY FUCKKKK or just hit annoying high pitches that Kris Kloss was known for turning people off doing. I think that if Dave Prazak and Fannin take it down a notch...they'd be with the best of them as far as announcing. I DO enjoy when IWA uses Ian and when Ace would do commentary...just because I was always a mark for Gino Monsoon and Jesse giving out the detailed explanations on holds. Sorry for the rant. Just trying to add to the conversation, which of course is all simply opinion.
Red Hot Thumbtack In The Eye 0 Report post Posted November 5, 2003 I dont give a fuck about Teddy, he has shown me nothing that makes him different from any other (very good) high flyer. I am VERY interested in seeing how well Jack Evans did at the show. That kid is gonna be big time as far as undersized, junior heavy flyers go. He's a hell of a break dancer also.
