Guest Urine Sane Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 I just bought the movie for $8.99 and I think it's great. It's got the feel of Scarface, but with a more serious and desperate tone. Brian DePalma and Al Pacino do awesome work. Even though you know he is going to die, you hope he makes it, and feel the urgency that if he doesn't get the money soon, somethin is gonna go down and he'll die. Anyone else like this film?
teke184 Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 Yeah... it gets completely underrated because it's the same crew as Scarface, yet it's a MUCH better film. Scarface is overblown and has trouble keeping the plot going. Carlito's Way, however, is always on the path of Carlito trying to stay on his path of redemption and escape despite all of the temptations to do otherwise. BTW, Sean Penn gave what was probably the dramatic performance of his career as Carlito's lawyer. He was able to seem coherent at times, coked out at others, and completely fucking insane exactly when he needed it.
LooseCannon25 Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 Great movie, i have the DVD.....Awesome performances by Pacino, Penn, and even the guy who plays Pachanga in the film. Now, Scarface is my favorite movie of all time but I do admit the plot and pacing is much better in Carlito's Way.
ArkhamGlobe Posted November 6, 2003 Report Posted November 6, 2003 Pachanga was played by Luis Guzman, who always does good work. I haven't seen Carlito's Way in years, but I remember being really impressed with it (the finale in particular).
teke184 Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 Luis Guzman rocks the house in everything he's in, from supporting roles in Magnolia (game show contestant) and Boogie Nights (club owner / porn star) to bigger roles such as in Traffic (detective).
Guest Urine Sane Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 I love the tension of when Tony T's son and other guys are chasing Carlito through the subway and into Grand Central, Awesome gunfight, not over the top, but really solid and visually pleasing.
pochorenella Posted November 7, 2003 Report Posted November 7, 2003 I agree it's a terrific movie. I think Sean Penn is the breakout star on the film, his performance is flawless. And Penelope Ann Miller looks more beautiful than ever.
