Nevermortal Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 Does anyone here have one of these things? I saw one in my store the other day for 1.99 used so I figured I'd pick it up just for a Mick Foley match and Megumi Kudoh's retirement. The announcers are possibly the worst I've ever heard, with some of the dumbest comments ever, ie: "FMW is really the originator of it all, because ECW got a lot of ideas from Onita, and since WWF got a lot of ideas from ECW, you can basically trace the rise of North American wrestling right back here to Japan, in the FMW!" And to think, I used to like Dan "The Mouth" Lovranski....
Guest Black Tiger Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 Some of them are pretty good, "The Enforcer" Masato Tanaka is one of the better ones (except Watanane and Lovranski insist on calling it the Roaring Elbow). Hayabusa's "Flying Assasin" is another of the better ones. As far as the announcers go, I'll take Lovranski over Eric "stupid nickname" Gellar any day, check out some of the early ones like King of the Deathmatch, or The Legend Dawns to hear some REALLY shitty announcing
razazteca Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 Eric "stupid nickname" Gellar calling W*ng Kanemura a "Clown" and Mike Awesome a "AWOL Marine"
Guest Coffey Posted November 10, 2003 Report Posted November 10, 2003 "The Legend Dawns," to this days, is still the worst wrestling tape that I own. That's saying a lot too, because I own three XPW tapes as well. Avoid that one at all costs.
razazteca Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 The King of the Deathmatch DVD has Japanese commentary plus Espanol subtitles! So you do not have to suffer from the worst commentary team of Geller & Wantabe. Stay away from the tapes but get the DVDs, if you can get it for less than $10 than do so.
Guest Jimbo Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 FMW DVD's cmmentatary = I've seen the Tanaka, Judgement Day, King of the Deathmatches, and whatever the FMW/ECW one is called. They are each ruined by the commentary. I MUST here the crowd and sounds of the match when I watch something, therwise I can't get into it. Needlesss to say, they were hell. But, all the shows are pretty good, so atleast you get to see something interesting while these guys verbally rape these shows...
Guest bort Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 I saw the FMW/ECW and the enofecer, dan the mouth is good on radio but sucks as a color guy, quite sad....good action for a cheap price though
Guest ManKinnd Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 Don't I feel like an ass. I picked up the VHS as soon as they came out for about $25. I'll agree King of the Deathmatch is good, and I haven't seen any others for sale in stores.
Guest Coffey Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 I got my XPW tapes and the FMW tape all in the same day at a local Suncoast. They were all $20 a piece. XPW Baptized in Blood XPW Baptized in Blood II XPW The Revolution will be televised FMW The Legend Dawns Man, I wasted a lot of money that day. The best part out of all the tapes is when Michael Modest does a top rope Fisherman Suplex (complete with perfect pinning bridge upon impact). It was a beautiful spot.
Guest Real F'n Show Posted November 11, 2003 Report Posted November 11, 2003 ^^yeah I saw that too. Phenominal Phil didn't look to impressive but Kaos looked ok and I had been a Modest fan since seeing him in WCW. Sadly that bonus match is the best one on the tape (Baptized in Blood)
Lord of The Curry Posted November 12, 2003 Report Posted November 12, 2003 I bought an FMW Tape in San Francisco during my vacation in 2002 and yes, the announcers are god fucking awful. There is nothing straight about "Straight Up" John Wantanabe.
