Bored 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2003 (edited) Roy Halladay. I think Loaiza deserved it more but that's just me. Voting Points (1st place votes) 1. Roy Halladay (26) 136 2. Esteban Loaiza (2) 63 3. Pedro Martinez 20 4. Tim Hudson 15 5. Jamie Moyer 12 6. Andy Pettitte 4 7t. Keith Foulke 1 7t. Johann Santana 1 Damn 26-2...seriously was Halladay really THAT much better than Loaiza? I mean I don't really care that much either way, hell I hoped Foulke would get more votes than he did, but I just can't believe it was such a landslide. King Kamala 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2003 It should've been Pedro his ERA was an entire run lower than Halladay's. Hell Loaiza deserved it more than Halladay. Bullshit! YOU HEAR THAT MOYSEY! UTTER BULLSHIT!
Bored 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2003 Pedro had only 14 wins and that ain't gonna cut it as no starting pitcher has won fewer 16 and won the Cy Young. Yes you can say the bullpen blew games or lack of run support but that would be the same argument for Tim Hudson who ended up with only 16 wins for similar reasons. treble 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2003 It should've been Pedro his ERA was an entire run lower than Halladay's. Hell Loaiza deserved it more than Halladay. Bullshit! YOU HEAR THAT MOYSEY! UTTER BULLSHIT! Whoa. Halladay was dominating all year long (well, once April ended) and I would have been PISSED if he didn't win this. His streak from May through August was a thing of beauty, especially in the starts where he came off of three days rest and seemed to be even better. Halladay had a much better year than Loiaza, who fell apart when his team needed him the most. No way Pedro should have won with only 14 wins, his ERA may have been lower, but Halladay smoked him in terms of innings pitched, so it's probably not a very fair comparison. Halladay had the best year of any starter in the entire major leagues, he deserves this award. I was 99% sure he was going to win this, but that little 1% had been bugging me since the season ended. I'm glad I don't have to worry about that anymore. Fuck Loiaza, he'll probably revert back to his old form in '04, anyway.
Guest Anglesault Report post Posted November 11, 2003 I agree with Tim. After that 15 game streak, you had to give it to Halladay.
the pinjockey 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2003 I am a little surprised Loaiza didn't get it. I figured people would fall into the story, but I am glad that didn't happen.
King Kamala 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2003 Cy Young award is for the BEST pitcher not for the pitcher with the most wins and for that reason Pedro should've won it. Halladay did have an amazing streak but fell apart towards the end of the year.
treble 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2003 (edited) Um, Halladay went 5-1 in September with 5 complete games (including a 10 inning win over Detroit) with his only loss coming in the game against Tampa with the bullshit ejection call. He lost two in a row in Seattle and Oakland (and even in the Seattle loss he went the whole 8 innings and only gave up 3 runs) in mid-August before winning 6 of his last 8 starts (one to Boston and the aformentioned Tampa game were his only loses). Don't say he fell apart towards the end of the year. Halladay had the best year of any starter in the majors and pitched 80 more innings than Pedro did. Maybe Pedro has a better year if he doesn't get injured, but there's no doubt in my mind that Halladay's year was far superior to any other starter in baseball, let alone the AL. Kahran Ramsus 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2003 I agree completely with treble_charged. For a team that goes nowhere, Toronto seems to win a lot of Cy Youngs.

Bored 0 Report post Posted November 11, 2003 I'm assuming Gagne wins the NL tomorrow? Gagne isn't winning tommorrow...because the award is given out Thursday. Managers are tommorrow.

EVIL~! alkeiper 0 Report post Posted November 12, 2003 As far as Halladay/Pedro goes, its hard to justify giving the award to a pitcher who started 7 less games.

I think that this pretty much sealed the deal for Doc. Not that Loaiza wasn't deserving, but Halladay was just a wee bit better...
