Steviekick 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2003 I have decided that "genre classification" is just incredibly too pointless... I mean...I can say that I enjoyed Metallica (in MOST of their forms) and that I can also listen to bands like Taproot, Shadows Fall, Skyclad, Stereomud, Darwins Waiting Room, and like a billion other bands situated in tons of genres shit... I listen to Sublime, Phish, and Pink Floyd every damn day... but I can also listen to MXPX, Less Than Jake, Five Iron Frenzy, Reel Big Fish, and other punk/ska alternatives... My mix CDs go everywhere from Rusted Root , Ben Harper, and Dave Matthews to Hendrix, Clapton, Marley, and bands like Neurosis... I'm such an eclectic bastard. Side Note: I've never heard Arch Enemy and I probably never will. You really should...despite everyone's bitching, they are very good.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2003 To the WICKED McULTRA FUCKING HARDCORE fans of any band, hearing the members piss on about how much they hate their fans sometimes is like an ECW fan being picked on by the Dudley Boyz back in the day: an honor. Slayer 0 Report post Posted November 14, 2003 To be honest I've never really liked Arch Enemy myself, and I'm one of the biggest melodic death/black metal marks you'll find But, you have to admit the acquisition of Gossow was a good thing. Before her, Arch Enemy was JADMB, but bringing in a female DM singer put them on the map, regardless of whether there was any actual improvement in the music or not. I know what you mean, but their is a difference. When you would go to a ECW show, the Dudleyz were their to be heels and harass the audience. They needed hat to get over. Amott bitching about his fans comes across as being kind of arrogant. He could have said the same exact thing but come across much better.

Before her, Arch Enemy was JADMB, but bringing in a female DM singer put them on the map, regardless of whether there was any actual improvement in the music or not. Again, the first album they did with Gossow was really good. The novelty of having a female singer got them attention, and the fact that Wages of Sin was a great album really helped make them stick out. Also, the fact that it wasn't released in America/Canada until being available worldwide for almost a year certainly added to its hype. It's just a shame that Anthems of Rebellion was just a decent album. They didn't live up to the hype from their recent pst.
Red Baron 0 Report post Posted November 15, 2003 Nothing from Kill Em All is anyway related to Ride the Lightning, Master of Puppets, or And Justice For All. Kill Em All is an album that is purely thrash metal. But from Ride to Lightning to Master of Puppets, you can tell there wasn't much evolving from the band. Yes different riffs, but same song structure and tempo as the previous album. Each three albums have an instrumental, a ballad of some type with a 2+ minute guitar solo at the end, an intro song with a slow tempo beginning. The only major differences were, Hammett writing more material for the solo's, the drumming of Lars Ulrich starts to decay slowly after each album, and the non-audible bass on AJFA which really isn't Metallica's fault. I'm a huge Metallica fan, but not seeing that the albums from 84-88 were not that different from each other is pretty simple.
Corey_Lazarus 0 Report post Posted November 15, 2003 The basic song structures are very similar, I'll give you that, as well as the overall layout of the album (with the second-longest song being the title of the album, and the second track, with a "power ballad"-like song on track 4, and an instrumental as track 7 or 8). But can you honestly tell me that "Blackened" and "Dyers Eve" sound like "Escape" and "Damage, Inc."? Those three albums were all produced within 3 years of each other, and the band didn't grow WAY too much, but there was enough growth to make each one different. And, like I said, Ride The Lightning and Master Of Puppets are the only 2 pre-ReLoad albums that sound alike to the degree where you go "b-sides?" to yourself.* *Which is funny, because ReLoad WAS mostly songs not used on Load.
