Essay I Have To Do...

Recommended Posts

Guest Random Hero

I've gotta do an essay for my Animation History class and I REALLY don't know where to start. I'll include part of the brief, and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Brief::

" Winsor McCay's symbiotic relationship between the comic strip and film animation has since been exploited by the likes of Bud Fisher (Mutt & Jeff), Charles Schultz (Peanuts) and R Crumb (Fritz the Cat) amongst others. Where else does a comic strip provide the basis for an animated film? You are required to write a 1500 word illustrated report on an animator/studio of your choice providing examples of where and how your chosen animator/studio has used a particular comic strip to support the design and development of an animated film. "

Okay so I included all of the brief.

I'm royally fucked here, I have little knowledge of the history of animation.

Any suggestions?

Well, there's Garfield, but that strip sucks now, so don't do that. And, of course, there's the short-lived Dilbert show on UPN.

Actually, didn't Matt Groening do a printed strip before coming up with The Simpsons?

Yeah..Groenig had a pre-Simpsons comic strip.

You can also include Spidey and the various Marvel comics cartoons.

Also mention the Gi Joe comic/cartoon connection in the 1980s. THey used an imation from the cartoon to make commercials for the monthly series. First time (and propably only time I know of) that a comic book was promoted via television commericals. It worked, because they sold an insane amount of GI Joe comics at Marvel during the 80s.

Maybe you can "jump on the bandwagon" and use The Matrix. Maybe something like, "from comic to film", using designs by Skroce or Darrow and then using the real scenes, or Animatrix and how it was used to set Re-Loaded.

I'm sure disney had some comic strips, didn't they? They've got more than enough stuff for 1500 wds.

Or you could do Manga/Anime.

Considering MOST anime TV is based off a comic.

I think.

Or is it could HAVE?

when was it due?
