Guest Super Leather Report post Posted November 19, 2003 For a while, I had the slsk149 fix and it was working just fine until today. Now they've released the new version of Soulseek 149 and their system doesn't seem to understand that I'm not from Europe and doesn't even has the US on their list of choices. Apparently they're expecting people to pay for Soulseek, and that just doesn't work for me. Does anyone know what the deal is? I can't afford to buy music very much lately and I like downloading old Japanese wrestling matches, so Soulseek is integral to such things. Hope someone's got some info. Thanks! Guest Super Leather Report post Posted November 19, 2003 Never mind. Someone on a different board pointed me in a better direction that doesn't require me to give the fuckers money. If other people here have been having the same problem, go to www.slsknet.org and download Soulseek 151. Oh, and I've been downloading matches pretty frequently as of late. If some of you would like to trade, hit me up with a private message and I'll add you to my user list. I've got a lot of Japanese stuff as well as ECW and old NWA/WCW matches. Guest OnlyMe Report post Posted November 19, 2003 Was it slsk.net that wanted you to pay for soulseek?
Guest Super Leather Report post Posted November 19, 2003 No, it was the slsk.org site. The one I posted previously is the one that will let you have it for free. I have Soulseek bookmarked for those times when the server fucks up and they create a new version, but for some reason the site changed at some point. Totally odd, but now I have what I need and the downloading continues. The only thing that really sucks about it is that my entire user list got deleted in the process, as well as anything I was waiting to download. I gotta figure out what I did wrong that made that happen, since it's worked out for me before.
Guest Mindless_Aggression Report post Posted November 26, 2003 Ugh, I cannot get slsknet.org to work so I shall continue to sit with my non working Soulseek.
Guest I'm That Damn Zzzzz Report post Posted November 26, 2003 The latest Soulseek news Thursday, November 20, 2003 Just wanted to clarify regarding the server being up and down a lot in the last few weeks. Thanks to some excellent investigative work from arzenik, our system administrator, we've recently discovered that there are certain limitations of linux and the 32 bit architecture that gives us a lot less room for growth than we thought we had. Coupled with a signifcant rise in the usership, this forced us to start looking for drastic solutions. Those include anything from hacks to the linux kernel (again, courtesy of arzenik) to a complete revamping of the server code. As a result, things are very very shaky right now. We don't know exactly how long it will be before things stabilize, but we are doing this so that we can continue letting as many people use Soulseek as want to. I completely understand anyone who's tired of the current instabilities and opts to switch to a different file-sharing instead. I probably would too by now. If that's the choice you make, all I ask is that you make it without anger or bitterness. You're always free to check up on us later, when things might be better. Nir 4:50 PM Wednesday, November 19, 2003 Oh yeah, if you're a donating user, or if you're considering donating in the future, get the recently posted version 152 of the client here. The web window in that one automatically knows what your username is so next time you donate there's no chance of you forgetting to send us your username or alternately giving us the wrong username. You have no idea how often that happens. Nir 6:46 PM Every time we make things better, enough new users log in to bring the server down again. We've temporarily taken the recommendations system offline until we can figure out how to make it, or some other server component, take less memory so it doesn't crash next time we hit our daily user record (which is a little over 96k users right now).
