Intel Pentium 4 2.8Ghz 1 GB DDR RAM 120 GB Hard Disk ATI Radeon 9600 128MB Graphics Card Sound Blaster Audigy 2 OEM Sound Card DVD - Rom drive 52 x 24 x 52 CD - Rewriter Windows XP With monitor and everything that comes to £1191.99. I have the option of upgrading the processor to 3Ghz P4 for an extra £130 or upgrading the graphics card to the Radeon 9800 for the same price, would either of these be worth doing? (Both is not on option, one or the other... maybe.) I mean, I want to be able to play Half Life 2, etc, but not fussed about the highest POSSIBLE speed, but it must be fast... Also, does more memory on the Graphics card just let you use higher resolutions, or does it increase performance too? As I could upgrade the Radeon 9600 to 256MB for just £20. Thanks...

As far as that system goes, you're going to have one smokin' machine is all said and done, although, if you know what you're doing, it would be MUCH cheaper to buy the parts seperately and build it yourself. And I sincerely doubt that you're going to need a gig of RAM. Just saying.

And I sincerely doubt that you're going to need a gig of RAM. Just saying. More RAM = GOOD. My MB supports up to 3GBs. I can't AFFORD 3 GB but I'm up to a GB and plan to keep adding.

CanadianChris Posted November 21, 2003 Report Posted November 21, 2003 I just got a new computer (reinstalling all my programs now, in fact), and I have to say that 512 MB of RAM is more than enough. Also, if you can, ditch the Pentium chip in favour of an AMD. You'll save quite a bit, and you won't lose hardly a thing in performance. You'll pay an extra 70-80 pounds just for the Intel name.
