Disspointed seeing Young Guns in RPG's?

Yes, we will have to take a bit of a history lesson.

Square could not really make a Beautful (SNES-era) games, but there Final Fantasy series had been doing well...

They still had the ugly, stubby, sprites for many of there games. Enix had whipped them clean in that department...(But of course, that did not matter when Chrono Trigger came out- Enix partly made the game...)

Of course, here comes a game from these creators of Final Fantasy- Front Mission. And its was not full of the Bishies, the hot looking females... Its was a dark game for its time, and was the Progenus for games like Xenogears.

Directly compeating for Enix's crown for Tatical RPG (Ogre Battle done back in 1993 and a new series was being finshed which was later called Tatics Ogre: Lets Cling Together) Front Mission was one of Square's best looking and challeing RPG's.

They did 2 others (Playstation), and one was released in the states (Front Mission 3) Front Mission 4 is set to come out Dec 18 In Japan, and A US date will be known soon:

And now: The Ages of the Chartaors:

Frederick Lancaster - a 36 years old news reporter, who attemps to investigate the assaults in E.C.

Beck - a 30 year old pilot of the Warzer Zelt made by Sender, specialized in long range attacks

Bosch - a 34 year old pilot of the Warzer Tatou made by Taureau, excels in speed but lack of defensive power

Latona - a 28 year old pilot of the Warzer Stork Mk.IV, who is specialized on spying

Hermes - a 20 year old genius war analyst, who pilots the high power Warzer Giza, an all rounded machine.

Zead - a 45 year old officier who pilot the Warzer Wildgort, which is created by Leonora Enterprise

Elsa - a 22 year old mechanical specialist, also the pilot of the Warzer Zenith.

(Note: The story is split into two, you can play ether a One Male from the E.C or the U-S-N Captain Elsa)

Pics from the game is here....

Also, Front Mission 2, 3 and the orignal game from the SNES will be also be relased, no word yet if that will come to the states- a GBA game is in the works as well.

I, for one, enjoyed Square's FF SNES games far more than any of their PS or PS2 releases...

It's interesting how people love a game like FFII. I thought the game was fun, but not in the same league as VI, VII, X...or even VIII.

Crono Trigger, though...that's pretty much my favorite RPG ever. I played a bit of Front Mission 3, though I could never find a copy to buy. It was pretty cool...challenging, and a bit dark. Front Mission 4 sounds good.

Except for the nostalgia packs.

By the way, mid-December Square's releasing Anthology and Chronicles again in a Greatest Hits version.

I'm currently playing through Chrono Trigger again on Playstation. It's the first time I've played this version, so I gotta start from scratch. However, the new cutscenes are very cool. Don't like the loading, but I've gotten used to it.

It's a shame they didn't do what they did for FFIV, and revise the dialogue. Some corny lines kinda hurt the game.

Anyway, I have heard that Square wants to make a new franchise out of Front Mission (i.e. backup in case people get sick of Final Fantasy).

If the line "YOU SPOONY BARD!" was taken out of FFIV, I wouldn't buy the game.

Period.

As for Front Mission 4, I like what I'm seeing so far, hopefully, it'll be even better the more we get to know of it.

Nintendo did this with their new Zelda bonus disk too.

No more of the "PRINCE DARKNESS 'GANNON' STOLE TRIFORCE WITH POWER!" stuff.

Well, Chrono Trigger isn't that bad, it's things like Magus saying "kissed any princesses lately?" to Frog when Magus is supposed to be some evil demonic badass. Then Frog's all like "I have something for you..." and draws the Masamune.

It seems rather silly for the medieval swordsman from 600 A.D. to speak like someone you'd expect in the Middle Ages...but he's the only one to do so.

Of course, a lot of the demon stuff is toned down, the nature worship stuff censored, and of course alcohol became pop, root beer, and soup. Which becomes more out of place when the "soup" gives your characters hangovers.
