Damaramu 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 I mean what exactly do they have to do to shut up the naysayers? Win the Sugar Bowl. I'm sure somebody would have SOMETHING to say. I mean there were still naysayers in 2000 when they won the fucking national championship. "Well they beat the #3 team....I don't care if they were #1....they haven't proven anything! Miami is better!(despite being #2)"
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 Somewhat true about 2000. Although for the most part the critics shut up after Oklahoma beat FSU.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 I don't want to sound all "poor me" but it seems that all my life everyone from out of this state seems to look down on Oklahoma like we're some fucking backwater white trash state that has cowboys and indians chasing each other around the plains. And it seems that nobody can really accept that something..just SOMETHING good can come out of this state. /rant over
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 Alot of people tend to do that about the entire south. We get the Fargo treatment in Minnesota.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 Alot of people tend to do that about the entire south. We get the Fargo treatment in Minnesota. Yeah well it's getting old. And like I said about OU. Even if they did win the Sugar Bowl(which they probably will) people will still find some reason to denounce them and say they weren't the best this year. I don't know if it happened to Miami and Ohio State the past two years but I know it seems to happen to OU everytime.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 It's gonna be really tough this year. Even for the criticis. The one thing I could see, college football isn't what it used to be, and winning a national championship isn't has impressive has it was 25 years ago. Yes but I've still heard from various sources that this year's OU team is being considered as one of the best college teams ever. If they win the championship many believe it will cement them at that top spot. And from what I understand..the numbers back them up.
Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 I was pointing what critics of OU might say. If they do win. They should be looked at has one of the best teams of all time.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 I was pointing what critics of OU might say. If they do win. They should be looked at has one of the best teams of all time. Yes I know that. Vern Gagne 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 What is with so many people saying Jason White isn't has deserving of the Heisman because he's on the best team. Well besides the numbers, he's taken essentially the same team minus Griffith at RB. Made them into one of the best offenses of all time, and possibily one of the greatest teams of all time. Bored 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 Not that it really means anything but why does ABC have their #1 national announce crew of Nessler and Griese (since Keith Jackson only does the Pac-10 with the exception of the Michigan/Ohio St. game this year) on Notre Dame/Syracuse and not the Big XII title game? Notre Dame still runs the college football world even at 5-6 against another 5-6 team.
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 Maybe they wanted to go to the winter wonderland in Syracuse. I wouldn't say it's because of Notre Dame. And isn't their #1 team Musberger and Fouts? They did the Tennessee/Miami game, I thought they were the #1 team. And where the heck is Keith Jackson? Does he only do bowl games now? Musberger actually kept fucking up Clausen's name (it's not "klau-sen," it's "claw-sen," retard), so I don't care where he is.
Bored 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 And isn't their #1 team Musberger and Fouts? They did the Tennessee/Miami game, I thought they were the #1 team. And where the heck is Keith Jackson? Does he only do bowl games now? Musberger is the #2 guy to my knowledge and Fouts does the games with Keith Jackson. Read my previous post, Jackson is Pac-10 exclusive except when he did the Michigan/Ohio State game. When he "retired" a few years back it was basically just to work his way to only doing west coast games since he lives out here to cut down on his travel. You'll hear him today on the Oregon St./USC game and he does the Rose Bowl.
Slayer 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 Watching the Syracuse-ND game, and they're having a halftime special segment on Pete Carroll. In it, Carroll talks about the trait that made him fail in the NFL and yet makes him a good college coach: He tries to be a fun coach and he believes in the fun of the game. Nice little slap to the No Fun League there
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 I'm staring to get the sinking feeling that USC may turn out to be one of those cinderella stories where they play there hardest and topple the mighty Sooner giant. *sits for a second* Naaaahhhh......
Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 If Syracuse keeps up their current game and Boise State spanks Hawaii as expected, I'd start thinking about LSU in their spot.
Bored 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 Well according to espn.com's Brad Edwards it would have be nearly impossible for LSU to get to the #2 spot if Notre Dame had won but now that they are going to lose it leaves the door wide open. Again can't we just get a playoff and not have to worry about games between 5-6 teams deciding who plays for the national championship?
Slayer 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 Isn't there something not good to be said about the BCS system if the fate of the potential #2 seed in the nation lies in the hands of two sub-.500 teams?
CanadianChris 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 If K-State beats OU tonight, all hell is going to break loose.
Damaramu 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 If K-State beats OU tonight, all hell is going to break loose. Even if OU loses they are still better than USC and LSU number wise...which means they go to the championship still. Besides every projection I've heard of the game tonight is like 52-21 in OU's favor.
Slayer 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 Army-Navy game starting now A much improved Navy team takes on a winless (ouch) Army team
Bored 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 Yes Oklahoma would be in the Sugar Bowl still but the point would be is that it creates a BCS nightmare scenerio with three one loss teams. Think about it if Oklahoma lost and USC wins but LSU ends up in the Sugar Bowl meaning USC the #1 team in the final regular season AP poll (they would move to #1 by the OU loss) would not be playing for the national championship. THAT would be an a major embarrasment. I don't think Oklahoma is going to lose and for the BCS sake they better not. Of course the door is open for a split national champion still if LSU goes to the Sugar Bowl and upsets Oklahoma and USC beats Michigan in the Rose Bowl and then USC and LSU will split the national championship as remember the BCS only officially decides the Coaches' poll national champ not the AP's. Oh and so Damaramu doesn't go another rant about Oklahoma being disrespected these are just scenerios I'm throwing out there and not necerssarily what will happen. Edit: Add on to another post as guess Keith Jackson got the weekend off as he's not doing the USC game. Mussburger is doing in the Big XII title game. Edwin MacPhisto 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 Holy shit, the Oregon State QB has a frickin' CANNON of an arm. 7-0 Oregon State after a pretty frickin' stunning 90-yard pass play. I don't expect that lead to hold up, but with Syracuse winning USC is gonna have to play better than that today...
Slayer 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 I never know who to root for in the Army-Navy game, as I have no direct loyalty (I appreciate their service, but military life isn't for me) and I have friends'n'family connection to both
teke184 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 I pull for Navy when I give a crap for several reasons. 1. The people I know who went to the Naval Academy tend to be a LOT better people than the ones I know who went to West Point. 2. Army was in Conference USA and it's pretty bad when they can't even beat crap teams like East Carolina from the bottom of the conference. I don't think they've won a CUSA game in years and would STILL have a tough time of it if they played future member SMU.

Art Sandusky 0 Report post Posted December 6, 2003 (roots for Oregon State too) The way I see it, if USC goes down, we're going to see an SEC team in the Sugar Bowl one way or another. A win over LSU would give Georgia the necessary quality win points to leapfrog Michigan, I think.
