One and Only NFL Week 14 Thread

I'm curious if the Bankster actually believes what he's saying, or if he's just playing his usual crowd-rousing self

Either way, I want to hear who you think is currently the best in the NFL, Banky

Who is playing the best ball? The Eagles. They have convincingly played convincing on BOTH sides of the ball. They have won, what 7 straight now? And so have the Pats.

I told KingPK that the Pats are arguably the best team in the AFC - their record definately proves that. But whenever I watch the Colts or Titans they simply IMPRESS me more than the Pats do. The Patriots always seem like they are hanging on rather than CONTROLLING the game.

I know what I am talking about, so don't patronize me.

Defense doesn't always win championships - overconfident offenses lose them.

NE has beaten both Ind and the Titans (why does EVERYONE seem to forget that???)

NE is very good, Indy is very good, KC is very good....screw it, the entire AFC is good.

NE has never been impressive, impressive doesn't win the Super Bowl. If it did, Indy would have four in the last six years.

Defense does win the championship and by that I mean the offense doesn't blow it. Even when the New England offense tried to blow it, the defense pulled them out.

Actually, it's 9 straight now, they last lost in Week 3 to the Redskins (a game they should have won, but I won't dwell on that).

Banky seems to hate everything from Boston...its just how he is.

No, I am a realist. The Eagles only have ONE more loss than the Pats. They started off the season terribly, but have slowly brought their team to the top of the NFC. I admitted the Pats are arguably the best team in the AFC, but all of you braindead Mass fans are all too delusional to give credit to a team that is just as good as them. One game means shit, thats all I am saying. The Bengals beating the Chiefs proves that.

Well, I support NE as the strongest team in the NFL.

With KC falling, NE is now tied for the best record, and they've beaten the toughest teams the NFL has thrown at them, and their two losses were flukes of the highest order (Milloy taking NE's playbook to Buffalo, and the Redskins win that I still can't fathom)

Name one other good team in the NFC? You could argue Dallas but barely. Philadelphia doesent even have close to the competition in the AFC.

They beat Washington. They lost to Tampa, Dallas, and New England. But they barely lost to Dallas (by 2).

Who in the hell is saying the Eagles aren't any good? Who is that stupid right now?

But for god sake, can people PLEASE quit forgetting that New England has beaten the Eagles and the Colts and the Titans.

It's like all these other teams say "Well, we already beat so and so" but when New England fans say it, the other team fans counter with "They weren't the same team then!"

Just stop.

Philly struggled because of injuries and when they became healthy, they became the best team in the NFC. NE is still struggling with injuries and they are officially the best team in the AFC right now.

Nothing but love for the Eagles though. I see them going to the Super Bowl.

No, the AFC is way better. But that means shit. Philly plays AFC teams as well. All I am saying is that they are the best team in the NFC and has improved greatly since their loses. I am saying the Pats are the best team in the AFC, what else do you want from me? I surely won't say they are the best in the NFL...because their not.

You must be from Boston.

Allow me to reinterate.

Since the Bengals beat the Chiefs, are they better than them? No.

The Pats beat the Eagles ONCE...and it was during the whole Limbaugh/McNabb controversy....as well as numerous injuries. Quit being so darned pigheaded and be more open-minded to the facts.

I chalk it up to bad playcalling in the last drive. There was a draw play on 3rd and 2 or 3 (I think) that got them nowhere, and they passed on 4th down when a run would have sufficed.

Banky, the Eagles are very good, I don't think anyone is doubting that, but the Patriots have won NINE straight games, facing 6 teams with records above .500 in that stretch, and going 6-0 against them. It doesn't matter HOW they won, just that they WON. And it is generally agreed that the AFC is much better than the NFC this year, so that ups the Pats a bit in people's eyes.

And don't forget that they have started something like 40 different guys this season.

Let me get this straight

New England beats Dallas, Miami, Denver, Indy, Philly, and the Titans but they aren't the best team in the NFL because they don't blow teams out?

When did blowing teams out become the measuring stick?

Eagles are the best in the NFC, New England is slightly better in the AFC and so far in the head to head when BOTH teams were battered, the Pats beat them.

I don't understand how the Eagles are better than the Patriots. They aren't flashy but they win and that is what football really is all about.

Also, the Pats just wrapped up their division in the AFC.

The Chiefs and Pats are sooo close for the best in the AFC and I can't see the NFC as the better conference.

I see your point so I guess we are going to wait and see where the chips ultimately fall. I'll wait to see how the Eagles play the Dolphins next week. So there you go sportsfans, I'll put the Pats up top my Power Rankings. The Eagles are a close second.

Guess again, I'm from Delaware and if you had known you would have realized New England came into that game as beat up as Philly.

Why is it Philly can claim injuries are why they lost even though NE came in missing linemen, running backs, and wide receivers and even Brady came in banged up.

I'm looking at it from a fair view. NE won the game with the same beat up team and they aren't flashy, but they win.

And to re-state, I'm not saying the Eagles are miles behind NE. I say they are all three are extremely close and in fact this is why I love the NFL. Anyone can win the thing cause they are all that good.

What about Portis and the big gold belt?

Portis was wearing a replica of the WCW title on the sideline at the end of today's game.

I officially want Portis named NFL MVP then.

Your arguments are about as lame as your posting name.

The Pats weren't in nearly as much conflict and compromising state as the Eagles during their 2 week defeat. But YES, I am giving the Pats credit - they won. BUT, its one game. I'm not talking about the Titans, Colts, and the AFC - they are a non-issue. Philly has been playing extremely good call since they played the Pats, they've acquired definitive victories over very good teams as well. I don't buy the arguments that the Pats are the best team because of who they've beaten in the regular season. Many of those games were quite close and unconvincing, but as KingPK said, they beat them. But in MY mind, I just can't consider them to best because of it. You can throw statistics in front of me saying they are the best, but there are teams that can challenge them for that honor. Until they beat the rejuvinated Eagles or even the Chiefs - I have trouble saying they are the best. But since the statistics show they MAY be the best, I'll reluctantly agree.

Fine, I'll compare the Eagles and Patriots based on the stats and point out why I have been saying it's SOOO DAMN CLOSE that it's nearly impossible to pick any of the teams as the best in the NFL.

Philly- Points for: 21.6 Points against: 17.1

New England- Points for: 20.7 Points against: 16.1

Offense advantage: Eagles

Defense: New England (not in yards allowed of course)

Record: NE by 1

So NE holds an ultra slim lead, and I mean slim as slim can be

Don't criticize the name either, I wasn't insulting you so there is no reason to come insulting me because I was disagreeing. No one is saying the Pats are far and away the best team. And I damn sure am not claiming they are the most exciting. But they win, they win the games they are supposed to lose.

Hell, I still see KC as the best team.

Unless they're just trying to be antagotinistic, there's really no way anyone can say that the Eagles are the best team in the NFL right now. A win over the over-rated Cowboys (no matter how big the win was) isn't enough to leapfrog a team from the 5th best in the league to the first.

My new top 5:

1. New England (up one spot from where I had them after last week)

2. KC (down one spot)

3. Philly (up two spots)

4. Indy (same spot)

5. Tennessee (down 2 spots)

Yes, I'm from Boston so I might be a bit biased, but 7-0 against teams with winning records is huge. They might not win pretty games, but you don't get extra credit for winning pretty. I'd take an ugly win over a pretty loss any day of the week.

Speaking of names, where does the name "Banky" come from anyway?

Please tell me you're kidding.

EDIT: watch Chasing Amy. You'll get your answer.
