Bored Posted December 7, 2003 Report Posted December 7, 2003 Show starts at 5:30 PM EST/2:30 PM PST on ABC. Watch as the head of the BCS says with a straight face why USC, the #1 team in the country in both human polls, doesn't deserve to play for one half of the national championship. Its going to be GREAT! This is the expected line-up: Suger: Oklahoma vs. LSU Rose: USC vs. Michigan Fiesta: Kansas State vs. Florida State Orange: Miami vs. Ohio State
CanadianChris Posted December 7, 2003 Report Posted December 7, 2003 Funny...Mike Lupica asked John Saunders what he was going to say on the Sports Reporters this morning, and Saunders trotted out some line of bullshit about how the BCS produced #1 vs. #2 again. Given that ABC is a partner in this debacle, I wouldn't be surprised if they tiptoe around the whole issue.
2GOLD Posted December 7, 2003 Report Posted December 7, 2003 John Saunders considers the Pac 10 to be a mid major conference so it's not shocking he would say that. If it's USC vs LSU then I think lot of the talk ends. However, if they leave off USC and USC beats Michigan then the BCS failed to do what it was designed to do which was make a clear cut national champion. The BCS makes my head hurt.
Bored Posted December 7, 2003 Author Report Posted December 7, 2003 Well Craig James has been a notorius BCS apologist all year and hell I think he was hired by ABC this year just to be that.
Damaramu Posted December 7, 2003 Report Posted December 7, 2003 Well if USC loses to Michigan then they'll say that everything works and LSU/OU is the undisputed champion. When is the Rose Bowl anyways? We'll know if we have a co-champion before the game happens. And it'll be interesting to see if the commentators make mention of it during the Sugar Bowl. Oh and if USC wins...do they get a big crystal football? And does the winner of the OU/LSU get one to? If this BS continues I'm so through with College Football....NFL all the way......
CanadianChris Posted December 7, 2003 Report Posted December 7, 2003 a) The Sears trophy goes to the #1 team in the coaches' poll (i.e. whoever wins the Sugar Bowl). b) The Granddaddy is on New Year's Day (where it SHOULD be) at 5 pm EST.
Bored Posted December 7, 2003 Author Report Posted December 7, 2003 Cheap plug: Either tonight or tommorrow I'll be posting my College Bowl Pick 'Em Contest. From collegebcs.com with two computer ratings still not announced this is the current unofficial Top 3 ratings: 1 Oklahoma 4.94 2 LSU 5.99 3 Southern Cal 6.48
Damaramu Posted December 7, 2003 Report Posted December 7, 2003 Cheap plug: Either tonight or tommorrow I'll be posting my College Bowl Pick 'Em Contest. From collegebcs.com with two computer ratings still not announced this is the current unofficial Top 3 ratings: 1 Oklahoma 4.94 2 LSU 5.99 3 Southern Cal 6.48 So we've basically got it down to LSU and Oklahoma at either one or two. You know I want my team to have the National Title...but god dammit I don't want it like this. I'd just rather they played Michigan. YES YOU HEARD ME RIGHT. I'd rather LSU and USC battle it out. I don't want OU to have it like this. But it's looking like they will.
Damaramu Posted December 7, 2003 Report Posted December 7, 2003 But I'm still wanting to know what people will say if OU wins the National Title and Michigan beats USC. Will you say that OU isn't the national champion or doesn't deserve it? Because suddenly they have the best record in the league and the AP poll will vote them #1 will it not? Therefore OU is the champion no if's and's or but's.
CanadianChris Posted December 7, 2003 Report Posted December 7, 2003 They WILL be the undisputed champs in that situation. What the hell difference does it make if a bunch of message board guys think they deserve it or not?
Damaramu Posted December 7, 2003 Report Posted December 7, 2003 They WILL be the undisputed champs in that situation. What the hell difference does it make if a bunch of message board guys think they deserve it or not? Because if YOU don't think they deserve it I have a sinking feeling that a lot of America thinks they don't deserve it. I mean you are people like the rest of America. Plus it'll give any OUhaters fuel to say OU is undeserving. Oh and about overrated. If anybody's overrated it's fucking Stoops.
Bored Posted December 7, 2003 Author Report Posted December 7, 2003 Its plainly simple...until there is a playoff there will NEVER be a champion that people don't question. Seriously life will go on if people don't think Oklahoma is the real national champ so don't lose sleep over it.
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted December 7, 2003 Report Posted December 7, 2003 Dama, if OU beats LSU and USC loses to Michigan, no one will complain. Because hey, OU would have beaten a great team in LSU and they will say USC failed to beat a good team, so the argument about easy schedule will be thrown out. Rest easy in the knowledge that if OU wins the title undisputedly against LSU and USC loses, then OU IS THE BEST TEAM, period. By the way I'm an USC fan so I dont want this.

Seriously life will go on if people don't think Oklahoma is the real national champ so don't lose sleep over it. I'm still a newbie...you are telling me that there has never been a real national champion that everyone agrees on? God damn that sucks. But even with a playoff there will still be "Oh they got lucky. They don't deserve it." talk.
Rob E Dangerously Posted December 7, 2003 Report Posted December 7, 2003 they should give OU the K-State treatment OU and K-State both won all their games and lost the title game KSU lost by 3 OU lost by 28 KSU went to the Alamo Bowl Send OU to San Antonio
USC Wuz Robbed! Posted December 7, 2003 Report Posted December 7, 2003 I think it would be funny if this three scenarios were to occur: USC wins Rose, LSU wins Sugar= USC sole champions USC loses Rose, LSU wins Sugar= LSU sole champions USC loses Rose, OSU wins Sugar= OSU sole champions.

It'd be nice, but the coaches are obligated to rank the Sugar Bowl winner #1.

Rob E Dangerously Posted December 7, 2003 Report Posted December 7, 2003 for those of you wanting to compare the 1998 KSU Wildcats and the 2003 OU Sooners KSU, before the title game: 543 points/124 allowed (in 11 games) OU, before the title game: 580 points/158 allowed (in 12 games)

Guess the Oklahoma name counts for something.

Bored Posted December 7, 2003 Author Report Posted December 7, 2003 Official...Oklahoma vs. LSU in the Sugar Bowl.
Lando Griffin Posted December 7, 2003 Report Posted December 7, 2003 Wow, USC misses out by .16. At least the Rose Bowl gets its tradition.
Bored Posted December 7, 2003 Author Report Posted December 7, 2003 From collegebcs.com: As it turns out, USC and LSU are close enough that if either ND or Hawaii had won, USC would have been in the Sugar Bowl. Unbelievable.
Edwin MacPhisto Posted December 7, 2003 Report Posted December 7, 2003 Amazing. Pete Carroll is a real class act while at the same time displaying balls of steel. The Rose Bowl execs have got to be busting champagne bottles all over the place: it's not their year for the title game, but they've got Big Ten/Pac-10 and the number one ranked team in the nation. Dag, yo.
Art Sandusky Posted December 7, 2003 Report Posted December 7, 2003 Now it's time for the SEC to represent up in this mofo. Aw yeah. (roots for Michigan to beat USC in what should be a bona fide dandy to make LSU [fairly] undisputed national champs)
