Upgrading windows

Recommended Posts

I currently have ME and want to change to Windows 2000. Is it as easy as putting in the disc and running it or is there more to it? Will I lose all my info I had already saved on my current windows environment, such as Word an Excel documents, etc? Thanks in advance.

If you're running a home computer, you don't want 2000, you want XP. 2000 is the version for large networks, used mainly for commercial purposes.

You won't lose any documents that are stored on your hard drive. You may have to reset some settings on your computer, and certain drivers may be incompatible with XP. For the most part, though, it's just a nice, clean install, following the prompts off the CD.

In summary: GET THAT PIECE OF SHIT WINDOWS ME OFF YOUR PC RIGHT NOW.

You can put 2000 on your computer if you want but it would be cheaper to buy XP Home.

2000 Pro/XP Pro - $150ish

XP Home - $99

Both versions of XP are built off 2000.

You better check the Hardware Compatibility Lists. I remember not checking it, and I had mad problems with incompatible drivers for the sound or the modem.
