tpww7 Posted December 8, 2003 Report Posted December 8, 2003 According to Ticketmaster, MLW's 1/9/04 show is now at the Tabu Nightclub instead of the PA National Guard Armory.
Guest bort Posted December 8, 2003 Report Posted December 8, 2003 smart move as competing with ROH and JAPW with basically the same roster isnt going to get you much of a crowd and many wrestlers will cancel on ya
Guest ToddRoyal Posted December 8, 2003 Report Posted December 8, 2003 Well, its a smart move in that they're distancing themselves from the ROH/JAPW/USAPro etc. Northeast-Philly wrestling mold. But it may not be such a hot business move. Most of the wrestlers that MLW and ROH/JAPW would be competing for on shows like this one, and 2/14, are based in the Northeast. This may make guys like CM Punk, Homicide, SAT and company pick ROH over MLW. Unless MLW is offering to fly them in, which it doesn't seem thy are financially able to do right now.
Guest OSIcon Posted December 8, 2003 Report Posted December 8, 2003 If it is true, it is interesting to say the least. The only reason I am hesitant to believe that it is 100 percent true is that it hasn't been announced anywhere else and there is always the posibility that it is just a screw up on the Ticketmaster listing. If it is true, it is an odd decision. Yes, they get themselves out of the already-crowded Philly market and distance themselves from ROH (who offer a very similiar product philosphy-wise). However, it seemed that their move to the Northeast was done in part because they could use the good northeast indy workers without having to fly them in. Plus they would be able to fly in the Canadian guys (who now make up a good chunk of their roster) for cheaper prices then if they flew them into Florida. Going back to Florida would bring those expenses right back up and they would be back to sqaure one. It also brings into question weather they plan on still running the Rexplex the next day. That would add even more expenses since they would have to get all the wrestlers from Florida to New Jersey in less than a day. You would have to think that show would be canceled if they do indeed go back to Florida. I am starting to question if these shows are even going to happen. They are about a month away from the show and Christmas is in the middle. They have one match announced for each card and nothing was on ticket master until today.
tpww7 Posted December 8, 2003 Author Report Posted December 8, 2003 From what I was told...an announcement about the situation from Court Bauer will be coming soon and it wasent a goof.
tpww7 Posted December 8, 2003 Author Report Posted December 8, 2003 They just changed the MLW site actually...
Guest OSIcon Posted December 8, 2003 Report Posted December 8, 2003 Interesting..... Looks like they are returning to Florida full time since the blurb for the Corino vs. Funk match on 1/10 says that they will wrestle in an "I Quit No Ropes Barbed Wire match in Florida". The fact that they don't have any other venues listed on the main page now pretty much confirms that. So much for the new business plan. If it is possible, I think they have added even MORE expenses now (the 5 Calgary guys, Quance, Pinoy Boy, and the other West Coast guys, and even Homicide and Ki won't be cheap to fly down to Florida)/
Michrome Posted December 8, 2003 Report Posted December 8, 2003 So Cide is supposed to fly to Florida for 1/9 and then be back in Ohio for 1/10? I predict Cide pulls off.
JustJoe2k5 Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 Here is an updated card for 1/9. -Homicide vs. Low Ki -Sonjay Dutt© vs. Jack Evans (Jr. Heavyweight title) -Jerry Lynn vs. Michael Modest -Bobby Quance and Pinoy Boy vs. Stampede Bulldogs (GTC Carnival, Semi-Finals) -Havana Pitbulls vs. Los Maximos (GTC Carnival, Semi-Finals) -Dark Fuego and Pete Wilson vs. Youthanazia (GTC Carnival, Semi-Finals) -Chasyn Rance vs. Matt Martel vs. P.J. Friedman Very good looking card, Homicide vs. Ki, Lynn vs. Modest, and the GTC Carnival should be great.
JustJoe2k5 Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 Updated card for 1/10. -Steve Corino© vs. Terry Funk (World title, "I Quit" Barbed Wire match) -Extreme Horsemen© vs. Samoan Island Tribe (Tag Team title, Weapons match) -Jerry Lynn vs. Teddy Hart -Bobby Quance vs. Michael Modest -Chasyn Rance vs. Jack Evans vs. Pinoy Boy vs. Sonjay Dutt -GTC Carnival 3-Way Finals -GTC Carnival Runners-Up Encounter -Dark Fuego, Havana Pitbulls, Los Maximos, Low Ki, P.J. Friedman, Matt Martel, Persephone, Pete Wilson, Raven, Sabu, Stampede Bulldogs, Vampiro, and Youthanazia are also scheduled. Another good looking card, Lynn vs. Hart, Quance vs. Modest, Jr. 4-Way, and the Carnival Finals should be good.
Guest Jimbo Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 -Steve Corino© vs. Terry Funk (World title, "I Quit" Barbed Wire match) yay, we'll get to see the same match again, just with the I quit stipulation...:-/ anyone else getting sorta board with Corino having lots of these barbed wire matches? This'll be 3 now in recent months...
Michrome Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 Yes. I didn't want a barbed wire match with Homicide, but I guess I was in the minority. Anyone else cringe seeing a 30 year old making a 60 year old bleed? Isn't that some sort of crime? Honestly, I hate matches like that.
Guest TDinDC1112 Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 So they're having both the 1/9 and 1/10 shows in Florida?
JustJoe2k5 Posted December 11, 2003 Report Posted December 11, 2003 Most likely, either at the same arena, or they could possibly have the 1/10 show back at the War Memorial in Ft. Lauderdale.
JustJoe2k5 Posted December 27, 2003 Report Posted December 27, 2003 Added to 1/9: -Lethal Lottery Tag match featuring Raven, Sabu, Steve Corino, and Vampiro -Chad Collyer vs. Chris Hero Added to 1/10: -Raven vs. Vampiro (Screwface match?) -Chad Collyer vs. Low Ki -Chris Hero vs. M-Dogg 20
Michrome Posted December 28, 2003 Report Posted December 28, 2003 God damn, some of this looks really good. I think Hero can drag something great out of Collyer, and I KNOW he can do something great with the shitty M-Dogg 20, since I saw them have a near **** match. 1/9 looks amazing, 1/10 looks OKAY...
Guest Markingout Posted December 28, 2003 Report Posted December 28, 2003 Both cards seem pretty stacked. Hero vs M-dogg the rematch from Ted Petty, jeez that was a good match. Ki vs Collyer could be an excellent technical match. Quance and Modest should be off the charts. Ted Hart and Lynn should be could, but I could predict the finish.
Guest champchavez Posted December 28, 2003 Report Posted December 28, 2003 What is wrong with MLW? Nobody ever raves about there events. They seem to have a fantastic roster. What is the big problem with MLW? WHy does it seem that it's nothing more than Florida's version of 3PW?
Guest Markingout Posted December 28, 2003 Report Posted December 28, 2003 ^^^^^^^^^ Because people thought the MLW of the old was just a cheap imatation of ECW. Now people think they are too much like ROH,but now people also want too see the matches because the cards are really good. Thats why, also the old MLW had a few good matches per card, but it had alot of legends.
