I miss the days when I would play the Final Fantasy VII final dungeon for hours, getting ridiculous experiance off of Master Tonbury. I don't have that kind of time now.

You have to level up all the materia, chaos.  When you first get Fire and Cure, it only lets you cast the very weakest versions of those spells.  You have to level them up to get the more powerful ones.

That's what I meant. Everybody can use cure and fire as early as the Wall Market. If you get it leveled up with one character, why wouldn't you with the rest?

Also, how the heck is magicite worse than materia?  Magicite only affects magic spells, and even then the character using it makes a difference: a Fire 3 from Terra is a helluva lot stronger than one from Edgar.

At least with materia, you have to master it to have two or three characters with it, which takes a while.

You've got to remember how few slots you have for materia at the beginning of the game. Everybody has a spell or two, and that's it. You also have very few early opportunities to get ones with 2x, 3x, or 4x multipliers.

I liked the esper system because it was basically what materia and summons did all built into one. And there was a ton of em, too. Mmm mm good.

Which ties into my main gripe about FFVII--it's a sequel that gameplay-wise didn't advance or expand at all, actually regressing in some means. It's not even as if it was altered to make it more challenging, it's just minor enough a change to make it fit in with the FFVII story.

Why is everyone making such a big deal over FF7's graphics, are you saying The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past is a bad game because it had terrible graphics compared to anything today also.

Seven IMO is an awesome game with an unpredictable story line and a set of characters that are each as memorable as the last. One of the only RPG's that I replayed just for the hell of it.

The character models in Final Fantasy VII are ugly. They've always been ugly, they always will be ugly. No one is saying it's a bad game because they're ugly, but that doesn't change the fact that they're ugly.

EDIT: And LTTP's graphics are still great, even today. So nyah.
